If your brakes are worn a big and the pistons are pushed out, not letting the new pads in, slide the old pads back in about halfway and use them as a pry tool. Pull or push the old pad against the pistons which will reset all 3 at the same time. If you only push 1 piston in, the other 2 may push out even further to compensate.
Yeah thats old school… my old man taught on the old calipers to take the cap off the brake fluid reservoir and stick a flathead screw driver between the pad and rotor and push the cylinder back in before taking the caliper alway off…
I was worried about this I only have 18k on my brembos 6 pot piston and wasn’t sure if I needed a special tool to compress them but they are brand new with my car
Natureboy207 this wasn't in the video but if you want to have no brake noises put some copper Anti seiz on the back of the brake pads what some one called chris fix he has a few videos about brakes
Nice job with the video, i think this will help people out that think this is a hard job to do. Ive been doing brakes since i was a kid and these are some of the easiest to change out, good job again brother. Oh, forgot to mention, B5 is the best!!
Great video👍🏻 In the future, I would suggest installing (2) wheel nuts onto the (2) studs to keep rotor seated against wheel bearing (finger tight). This way you'll know that rotor won't wobble during installing of pads. Although Brembo doesn't apply Loctite on the center bolt, I apply a drop before torquing her down.
thats why i love these cars, they are 4 door sedans with 700+hp from factory and they are easy to work on, parts are not that expensive either(as compared to european cars)
Just getting ready to do my pads on my hellcat and glad I decided to look first. I would've been pulling the whole caliper for no reason lol! thanks for the video.
You can do that but he had it on the very end of the plastic I dont know why he wouldn’t feel with his finger as he jacked it up to make sure it wasn’t catching the plastic
Hopefully, when you did the other side, you remembered to compress the caliper pistons before you took it all apart. Then the pads just slip out and back in effortlessly. Also a good idea to pop the cap off the M/C fluid reservoir so the fluid doesn't pop the seal as it gets pushed back into it.
He definitely didn’t press the pistons back with a flat head screw driver before taking the brakes out but he did after he took them out because you can’t put the new pads on after without pushing the pistons back in but he definitely didn’t open the resivor cap but hopefully he does the next time and so on.
If using same rotors you should be scrubbing the rotors with a scotchbrite pad and some simple green. Talk to HAWK or any reputable performance brake company and they should tell you the same thing. It helps remove the old brake pad material that gets embedded into the rotor. Glad to see you discussing the "Bedding"process at the end.. most do not mention this...
Great video. I went in for new tires on my SRT Grand Cherokee, and got caught off guard needing new pads....so I went back with stock Brembo pads, as I didn't have enough time to get different pads. BUT, I'll be ready when my Hellcat Charger, and forthcoming Trackhawk need new binders!!
Yes sir! I'll get the Hawk finalized the day Leith Wendell gets their allocation open! I'm gonna keep the Cat also. I just love my SRT GC so much, I can't pass up the Hawk!
LOL, I need to get some help learning how to vlog! But, I'm not gonna let them detail it or anything, as they always manage to swirl it! BTW, did you see the video by Chris Fuelling, where his Hellcat Charger got delivered on an open trailer......it was super sketch!
Thanks my man. Hopefully it's useful to some people. Super easy job, minimal tools. Totally worth doing for anyone on the fence. Just wanted to show those intimidated by it, that it's totally doable for anyone
A) everyone knows you have to compress pistons on any brake job to get new pads in. Hopefully you didn’t bugger up the sides trying to force new pads in the first time(s) 2) the ceramic pads still dust, and it’s still corrosive, it’s just not black.
#2, I'm going to disagree with you there. I have these same Carbon Fiber-Ceramic pads and oversized rotors on both my 2011 Ford Raptor and on my 2004 Mustang Mach 1, and if there is any brake pad dust, its miniscule at best. What I see mostly is just road dust. These are well worth the money. These were just put on my 2021 Challenger Scat pack shaker widebody to eradicate the huge amounts of filthy, black acidic factory-pad brake dust on the rims. It worked like a charm, once again.
+jboozey1 thanks brotha. I appreciate that! If you have a pre 2015 srt it's going to be a different part number on the pads. But same stuff just different size
What was the part number for those brake pads if you can remember I'm having a hard time finding pads for my 2020 SRT with the same 6 piston front caliber
Point of the video was to show you don't need any real special tools. A basic ratchet set and maybe a small hammer and tq wrench if available. I have a 5ft tall tool chest with everything from power tool, pneumatic tools (compressor is weak though) to speciality hand tools. But I wanted people to see they can do this job and not be intimidated by it.
When do you change the rotors. I MEAN DO HAVE TO CHANGE THEM WHEN YOU GET NEW PADS. OR DO YOU HAVE TO SHAVE THE ROTORS WHEN APPLYING NEW BRAKE PADS?????
You put the spring on upside down there's a bump out for the middle cross pin if you look at the spring before you uninstalled the pads and after you installed them you will see what i meen.. I did the samething on my hellcat and the brakes still made noises after i noticed it was wrong they where perfect
Good vid, the deceiving part is the red cover. It's nice that it stays in place and after the pins and springs are removed the pads slide out. Push the Pistons back in and clean all the dust up. Put the pads back In. Sweet! I've always applied a little lube to the face of the Pistons that make contact with the pads. Is this necessary for these brakes?
if u look at the clamp between the calipers is positioned one way before u remove it ...then u put it back backwards look like loo at 3:16 and look at 9:54 looks different ...i hope im wrong....and i hope that everything works the same, anyway thanks for this video brother im going to attempt mine in the next few days ....

I have a 2016 392 challenger I was told by the dealer it’s gonna be $2605 for front breaks are they pulling a fast one? I got it used and the breaks started squeaking 3 days after it’s 34k miles
Great vid, just ordered my Z23's for my SRT. Question, do the pads come with any anti squeal lube, and did you use it? Also, I heard on the rears there is some sort of stock heat shield? Does that have to be reused on these pads or are they part of the new pad and not required?
gpounder1 thanks dude. I personally don't use the lube with the brembos. Still to this day not a single squeak. I never did end up doing the rears and I don't recall a shield on any of my previous one

@srtmush did you change the rotors yet since the video? What mileage do we have on the rotors until they need to be replaced? I'm at 30k miles on a 15 SRT charger
hey man, if you remember... can you send me a link for the brake kit (front and rear). I'd really appreciate it. BTW I'm glad that the supercharger issue got handled.
+SRTMUSH .. I have a 2015 SRT Challenger... have to do my brakes... I'm going to have to replace the rotors, what's up with all the bolts around the rotor

Normally you remove the caliper and push the brake pistons back in, and you set your pads then put the caliper back on. Are these cars different, or is this whole job incorrectly done ?
First, watch the jack points. Make sure you are jacking on the frame and not the body. Note how the underside of his car started to cave in from the jack(1:17- 1:27). That is not correct. With Brembos you can slide the pads in from the "top" no need to swing caliper away from rotor. You do need to push the pistons back, ideally using the pad for even pressure and open the bleeder screw on the caliper. Worst case you can open the brake fluid reservoir and SLOWLY push caliper pistons in.
