Bought the exact same bike (even same color) in 1974. I was 21 years old and rode it for 5 years. I'm age 69 now and would love to have the bike again

Me too, I had the blue one with yellow white flash. Totally reliable apart from an alternator brush parting from its copper braid.
The sounds and smells of a misspent youth just lovely !

My first real street bike. Got it in my junior year in high school. Went everywhere on it and did stupid 17-18 yr old riding on it. Damn, I loved this bike. I preferred over my friends Kwai 2-stroke triples because it was wider, heavier, and more comfortable on longer rides IMHO. Rode it all yr round in Briarcliff Manor, New York: rain, sunshine, cold, ice and snow. Graduated high school with it and had for many more years when I moved to British Columbia Canada - riding the pacific coast roads and mountains. Eventually moved up to a GS750 while in college in Albany NY and road that across the US to Arizona. Been riding my whole life and now at 65 have an Harley Ultra Limited for touring with many bikes in between. But it all started back in late 72 with a GT380. Wish I still had it today. Thanks for posting your review. Put a smile on my face.

I am glad that old Japanese motorcycles are cherished abroad.

Takes me back to 1980! I had an A model with a Piper 3-1 exhaust, knocked ten mph off the top speed but sounded amazing! Also had a 1973 M model, metallic green, that was a cool bike.

I had that exact same bike in 74! Except mine was blue. It had a six gear, one down and five up. Digital gear selector, to let you know what gear you were in. Cost back then? $1199.00. My payments were $67.76 a month for two years. WHat a GREAT bike that was. I truly miss it!! I was 19 when I bought it.... I'm now 60. :(

+tomnmeg My dad had a 73 and it was his first vehicle as well! That's the reason why he got this. we are going to fix it up.

My memories of my Suzuki 380 are not a rosy as some comments here. I certainly enjoyed it, riding in the late 70s between University, home and work.
However, it was a pig on gas, and I frequently had trouble with the plugs fouling after only a couple hundred miles after service which robbed the bike of power big time.
If someone offer me my ol’ bike I would decline the offer and find me a smooth running retro 4 stroke machine.

This was my first bike back in the 70’s. Had a silver one. Would have been nice to see more of the bike than the handle bars and the top of the gas tank. Was hoping for a walk around. Even so brought back fond memories.

YAM RD 350 triple? They never may a triple of this did they?? Anyway curious to know what you thought had the fastest acceleration of the bikes you mentioned? My money is on the Yam RD 350 which was a twin two stroke. cheers

@@MrMambott Ha ha, you too Steve - enjoy your bikes! I purchased a Suzuki GT380 (late model '79) in December and just had it recomissioned. Still running in the rebore / new pistons so keeping the revs low. Can't wait to open it up! It's great fun and a real contrast to my '04 BMW 1200GS.
      Keep safe

I was going to buy either the Suzuki 380 or a Yamaha rd350 back in 74 .....i went with rd because it was a rocket and the 380 was more a highway bike. My friend had a 75 380 and we would swap out sometimes and the 380 was a lot better on the highway and not as buzzy as the RD. He rode it from Phoenix to S.D. more than once and i would never do that on the RD. I bought a almost new 75 Yamaha TX500 twin with 400 miles ...and rode it to CA a few times with him. He totaled the bike but it had 18k miles and still ran great before he was hit. Back then you meet guys that rode to Canada and back on a CB350 Honda....not anymore
