Had a few of these come into the workshop similar problem a usual problem was the center exhaust would coke up. Easy fix.
Same thing happened to mine coked up exhaust

Nice bike I bought it from him thinking I could always break it. And hey presto I couldn't believe no one had tried the obvious.
Great bikes, had a 550 in 1977, silky smooth and always remember hitting the power band, so much fun and a bike I miss to this day. Great video, thanks, even thought the music was ok.🙂
Old man had the 550 version, loved it, but he'd have to refuel at every town.
Lovely old bike from back in the day. My Dad had one and it burbled along quite the thing. Yeh, great old bike.

Had a head-on crash with an escort van (yeah, my fault) smashed myself and my brother who was on the back, bent the forks so that they followed the front of the engine and squished the front wheel to the point where the rim was touching itself and the hub. By the time I had recovered sufficiently, my dad had replaced the front end, the wheelbase ended up a couple of inches shorter due to the headstock being pushed back but it handled fab! Definitely the kind of bike that if you hit a brick wall on it, it would come out the other side without you!!!

I seen people fit new crankshaft seals without testing the crankcase pressure first!

Good video. I once had a 250 Super Six Hustler which developed a misfire after its first service and the problem turned out to be a missing washer under the main jet - how this had occurred is a mystery - but it was not laid in the float bowl. The fact that the washer was missing allowed the emulsifier tube to rise and fall at will hence the rough running/misfire.
Any mechanics out there? years ago I had a Honda CB 77 and found it was only firing on one cylinder, it was the plug, put a new one in and it was perfect till I turned the engine off, found the new plug was dead, it would start and run after a new plug was fitted but after turning the ignition off the new plug was always dead, never found the problem, just sold the bike however I always wondered what was causing the problem, any body know the reason?
My GT380 would drop out the middle cylinder at the most inconvenient times, like running from the law.
where are this sort of type? we not knowing much of that - although I met a lass from Hull once... such fear, such heat! I did not know it. Do now! oh yes...
I had 1 nearly new in the 70s...used to think it was .meant to start on 2 them 3 cylinder about 30 minutes later
Great job in sorting things out. But, pls: go watch a video from the great master-mechanic Allen Millyard! No music! Some cupcakes, every now and then, that Tracey is baking. Some hedgehogs, sometimes. And: No music! (I'm 63 and much into "The Warning" from Mexico, these days. Those 3 sisters ROCK!)
My first bike was a GT380. The middle cylinder blew up 😢🏍️🇦🇺
I had a GT250, bulletproof bike, i loved it. Every now and then it'd drop a cylinder. In my case it turned out to be a points issue.
Always remember on a 380 the points cam runs anti-clockwise.
I had one in 79. But sadly it died when the centre pot oil pipe broke and the engine ceased. 😢

When doing a compression check. Shouldn’t the throttle be wide open
hold the throttle fully open when doing a compression check,if it cant suck air it cant compress it!,schoolboy mistake!!

You have to use non ethanol fuel in older, carburated bikes.
Never forget taking pipes off for cleaning in the early 90's an not exactly putting them back on properly😂.
3 seconds in and I switched off due to the shite music.

A common problem with these was a nice round hole in the centre piston

I had one with one cylinder holed in the middle. It was due to a sport exhaust. Put standard exhaust on and sold it.
Compression tests are done with the throttle opened full! And loose the music.

I had an exact replica of that 380 on a T reg, she was a dream and I sold it and bought a brand new 350LC on a Y reg must have been mad. The 380 handled and looked much better. The stupid things you do when you're young and daft. Excellent video. Well Done .
Thanks! My Dad had the 350LC when I was a kid. He bought it brand new. It met its demise when a taxi driver pulled out on him and he smashed into the front of it taking out his ACL on his left leg. The bike was totalled. One indicator lens survived. 😢
Rare now a few around when I was a lad think a lot went for the 550 or rd400 kh 400.?😅

Center cylinder should be up 2 sizes on jet due to running lean when it gets hot

It's almost always the crankcase seals. If it was rebuilt it was not put back together properly or they didn't redo the crankcase seals.

bought a 380 back in the late 70s, only thing wrong was the kickstart return was broken, no problem says I, then realized the whole crankcase had to be split, rebuilt it completely on the kitchen floor, survived just, though the wife was a bit upset, lol

had one of these 1975/76 in blue, very smooth ride until you hit 5.5k rpm, great bike ,simple maintenance and could shift. better than the cb500 one of my mates had,

I haven’t watched the video yet, but I know it’s going to be a burn hole in the top of the piston because of the spark plug misfiring because water has gotten in under the spark plug cap
@@stevil. Very unusual water ingress usually give poor performance. Not pre detonation probs.
@@quidly259 I ran into that problem very very, very many years ago in the world the person that had owned the bike before me didn’t return the correct spark plug cap and replaced it with an aftermarket one and the same thing happened to me twice when I was driving to work on a cold wet morning, I loved that bike ended up, swapping it out for a Honda
