You obviously didn't have the OEM "Rubberised Steel" flexible swing arm on the bike. I had a Dresda box section swing arm on my GT550A, which improved the handling, in corners, from terrifying to just scary. This one modification saved me a fortune in replacement underwear bills, so it paid for itself.
My dad owned one around 1975. Awesome bike!
