Born in 08. Favourite movie, without a doubt. My dad introduced it to me when I was about 10, probably, and I loved it. Really makes me wish I was alive in those times. All this shit in my generation gets overwhelming sometimes. I know it wasn’t, but the 80s just seemed so perfect and simple. I think thats the beauty of it. But anyway, to whom may be reading this, I truly hop you have an excellent day.
From an 80s baby, we welcome you our hangouts anytime young rider. This era is unfortunately so dense with "technological advancement and convenience," that many forget that TRUE FUN & JOY are still in the simplest of things.
I was in 6th grade when this movie came out. It was a great time to be alive here in Southern California. You should've seen the bike rack at school. It was loaded with the top bmx bikes.
When this opened in my hometown, the owner of the local BMX track stood out front by the ticket line and gave passes for a free BMX class on the next morning, to all the kids going in. Cut to the next day: I'm sure SOMEbody didn't show, but it definitely seemed to us like every single kid who watched RAD the night before, was in attendance. Starting then, at 13, I raced for the next 5 years. Never was that great, but good enough to stay into it without just being miserable. RAD did that.
I used to watch this movie over and over and over when I was a kid. And I told my mom I wanna do this. And she went out and found a track near me. The closest one was 30 minutes away. I went out there with a regular bike. And the rest is history. I ended up riding on a high level. Year after year placing in the top 10 in Florida in my age group. Expert class. I used to travel all over the state, even to other states. I went to Ohio and won the Presidents cup in 92. It's where riders from all over the country came and met to represent your state. It was an epic time in my life. It was a family event. It took dedication from everyone. Practice 3 times a week, maintaining the bike and events, yada yada yada. I used to have literally over 100 trophies, my dad had a huge shelf at his shop they were all lined up. Best time ever. And it was all because of this movie that it happened.
I was three years old when this came out. I'm not sure exactly how old I was when I did watch it, but it was on the TV, and I LOVED it! It inspired my older brother to make a bike track in our backyard with whatever he could find to make an obstacle course. Then he became my 'coach' and got me off training wheels and into real biking! (Great memories!) Only ever saw it the one time, but never forgot it. My favorite part was, of course, the gym bike dance scene to 'Send Me an Angel.'
My dad showed me this movie when I was like 7-8 (mind you I was born in 99) and I was entranced by it. It was the perfect 80’s movie in my eyes. Not that it actually is by ratings standards or popularity, but I felt like it encapsulated what the energy was going for, action, campiness, the hot girl, the tuff guys the underdog kid. On top of that a random dance routine in the middle of the movie?? Hell yeah. Then like looking for the lil details where you see props that weren’t hidden well enough, or obvious stunt doubles, the cuts that hide bails. That type of stuff, and none of it took away from the beautiful accomplishment this was for the BMX community. I could only imagine how many kids begged for bikes, or ride theirs until the the wheels fell off. I wish there were a BMX film coming out now a days but the way the world is shaping up in 2020 we’ll may never see that. I don’t think Hollywood would see any value out an it sadly. But Thanks Dad. I will always thank you for letting me see into your childhood and being apart of it
I was born in 86. The year this movie came out but I remember watching it either on tv or VHS when I was 5 years old at the oldest. Great memories eating junk food and playing with my cousins. Simpler times back then. Alot of just hanging out.
I remember always seeing this in the video stores. This was back in the 90’s. Looked at it but never rented it. This is the first time I have seen the trailer. It does look good.
I had a blue tired chrome bike just like the one in RAD. We built a jump and tried to do back flips... well my little brother tried since I talked him into it. He landed on his head on the ground and none of us tried it again. Good times those crazy 80's. I hope I get to watch them like a movie one day in Heaven.
I remember watching this as a kid with my brother. We went outside got on our bikes, and he tried doing the backflip part off a ramp near the church in Virginia. 24 stitches on his skull. I already knew my little bike wasn't going to make that jump. I was 8 years old, he was 11. Great times 😅
Always and forever will be a rad fan ‘ ride tilll we die ‘ for ever thankful for the inspiration to ride hard ‘ and the voice for the opening credits 🙏 still gives me chills 👊
I went to see this in the theater when it came out! Man the memories! I still remember some kids down in front were acting up and some older kid shouted "SHUT UP DIRT CLOD!!!" Hahaha so classic!
Mine was a 1994 redline 340 complete. Chrome with half black and red decals. So happy because my father bought me a generic bike and said this is all you need. So a month later I snapped the frame. And said Christmas is coming. Don't buy buy me anymore cheap bikes . I'll hand in back to you in pieces. Lol.
My bmx older brother made me watch this when I was 6 or 7 and I remember I loved it haven't seen It since or remember it. Or that Lori Laughlin was in it. But why the hell is HEAVY ass mongoose represented so much. I'm not a bmx expert by any means but I'd prefer, GT, redline, skyway, hutch, etc...over the goose all day. I'm talking 80s- early 90s bikes. I wish it was 1986 again.
I remember being a KID at the height of this Movie and it was shot in my home town at the time (Calgary) the rumors of exactly where it was being filmed where a big secret, later found out a few scenes where shot only 2 miles away !! crazy, too bad they didnt come looking for "extras" at the local dirt hills !!

Genius move by the track owner, lol.
I raced for 12 years before a fractured pelvis put me out of racing permanently. And yes, it was because of rad. LOL.
yeah the 90s-2000s equivalent of that would have been when the Tony hawks games got popular and fucking every kid had a skateboard within weeks

'Send Me an Angel' scene is actually RAD! 😗😎
The most underrated opening and closing credits scene in movie history.
agreed.to me the best part of the movie is the opening credits. would watch just the beginning and try to replicate the moves.
80's rocked. It was cooler than today. So glad I lived through the 80s. Movie is cool also. Love the teacher from Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

Born 1978 and movies like RAD, THRASHER, PRAYER OF THE ROLLER BOYS, AND PUMP UP THE VOLUME STILL MY FAVS
I just saw this and bought a BMX. A mongoose with mag wheels, just like those factory hot shots. Except I'm 43.

Used to take the frames from the shopping cart advertisements and put it in front of our bikes with a number. Ahhh memories

I know! The blonde antagonist looks just like Johnny Lawrence!
yes, and the final move wasn't the crane technique, it was a backflip... which nobody could do back then.
