@50 (almost 51) I still find these BMX bikes stunningly beautiful and I still get giddy when I see them. These bikes had such a mystique when I was a kid. The bike I loved the most was the Mongoose FS1. I had friends that had Redline, Skyways, Mongoose, CW, and on and on. They were just so cool and still are IMO. I never got the FS1 but I did get a smoke black Schwann Predator that I absolutely loved. I loved it as much as I did my first car. I sure miss those days.
very cool. When I raced BMX in the 80s, I couldn't afford the Redline, GT, etc. I literally raced a down and dirty Huffy with a paper plate number plate on the front of my bars. No one would talk to me, and in one memorable race, I smoked the fools and their expensive bikes. The pinnacle of the race, I was in second, the guy in first and I went over a table top (he was a bike length or two in front of me), he crashed, I landed on top of his bike and kept pedaling like a savage on my heavy Huffy bike to take the win. It was rad.
Hello old friend! What a blast from the past. I rode this exact same bike home from my local Cycle-Pro dealer on my 12th birthday and will never forget the excitement I felt. One of the best days ever. I got lucky myself years ago and stumbled across two Redlines which were also 100% original down to the tires, tubes, pad set and even the ugly reflectors that 99% of us ripped of before our friends saw them and made fun of us...lol. I wish they could talk and tell their story. Must have been brothers that owned them. They were both very mildly used and eventually ended up at the Goodwill.
Love the channel . I’m probably close to your age just turned 49. I’ve always been a BMX fanatic. I sold my childhood bike when I needed cash for prom weekend. I like most moved on from BMX when I started driving. I started getting back into BMX maybe a year before Covid. My childhood best friend and partner in crime dove in head first. We both started scooping up frame/forks all parts to complete builds or complete bikes. I built 5 sick bikes all 80s with the exception of a 2016 anniversary PK Ripper that I modified. He built 11or12 he didn’t just stick to 80s he built some 90s and newer BMXs . He did build 3 really rad Kuwahara’s a kz and a couple laserlites . We’re both really into Rad . I once watched it and would freeze any shots that showed the cranks. I was in shock when I realised almost every bike had 1 piece cranks! There’s a sweet Redline Prostyler RL20 II the has 3piece cranks . This is where I possibly tell you something about your new bike from the movie you may or may not already know. I think there was 2 Mongoose Californian with red accent pieces that they used in the movie. The one she rode for the majority of the movie and one she rode during BMX boogie scene during school dance. I noticed when I paused it during that scene that her bike suddenly had 3piece cranks? Different sprocket as well. Keep making killer content can’t get enough of 80s BMX!
4:25 of all the light chromoly bikes Mongoose actually was probably my most favorite riding on dirt jumps the frames held up well and they just had better geometry for the massive jumps we did in the early '90s.
Oh wow I just got a blast of nostalgia. I had a hot pink GT Performer when I was a kid. I loved that bike and it was stolen from my school. I haven’t seen one since until this video. Awesome

I raced NPSA in Florida back in the early 80s. My first race bike was a Mongoose. It looked pretty cool with red Zap pads, red Araya rims, and three-piece Suntour cranks.
I had one just like it in '85 , all the same parts except in blue. I worked all summer mowing neighborhood lawns in Moss Bluff Louisiana. After that, I think I made about $150.00 and my Dad pitched in the rest. I remember seeing it in the bike shop in the awesome chrome and blue color scheme, had never seen a bike like that before. It was 4th grade summer. It was priced at $349 and when my Dad saw that his jaw dropped so I had to work for it some. Later, the Bike shop was going out of business and we picked another one exactly the same for my sister at half price. My sister still has hers but needs to restore it. I found one on E-bay about 7 years ago and built it up for my son except in red and with black mag wheels.
Back in the 80s I had a Blue Max and a Spartan and finally a GT Pro Performer with Skyway mags. All were stolen at some point because I was lazy and left them outside at night lol. Seeing the value of these bikes today I wish I still had them.
Still 100% organic down to the weather tire's on it from the bike shop would have sold it. It's a sweet bike that would be amazing survive diamond back viper
I was just talking with a friend the other day saying that the main movie bike has been made so many times, but this particular Christian hollings bike I’ve never seen anybody remake it. Now I don’t have to. I can see the original.
@@RadBMXBuilds it was funny when you mentioned people telling you to take the reflectors off and the chain guard off. In the movie, the only reflectors that she had were on her pedals.
