Those are little black snakes. They don't want you! They want mice and frogs and such. With a stick you can "urge" them back off of the trail.

Thank you Chris! Honestly there's crops at many different points of the trails here, it all goes around and through a farm!

How did you get to the trails from the park ?

You can start at a few entrances, I went past the athletic fields but you can also back track to the main trailhead. If you type Schaeffer farms trailhead into maps, that should get you there
