I can’t tell you how grateful I am for this fix. I’ve been dealing with pro controller drift for 3 years now and nothing I did fixed the problem. This solution worked flawlessly and my joysticks feel new again. Thank you so much for your effort into fixing these issues Nintendo couldn’t, you definitely deserve as much exposure as possible.
This is the only video i could find that shows how to fix this problem with the stick drifting down like crazy, and I tought several times that i broke my controller because some things really weren't looking good, but after cleaning the controller from the inside and using 2 small and thin pieces of paper it worked perfectly again, thanks! If you're skeptical about doing this, it looks scarier than it is, you don't have to take the small metal circle out like he did, you just have to get the green thing out like in the video and put a small slice of paper or two through the hole.
Congratulations, you also fixed the Xbox One controller drift too since they used the exact same components as the Pro controller do. Now, I'm gonna fix my old Xbox controller thanks to you VK
You helped me some months ago with your joycon drift fix and now you've done it again with the pro controller. I also love that your solutions are easy to do and cost nothing at all. VK the MVP!
You were the only person who showeed me that I can remove those green pieces on the side of the joystick and clean them, THANK YOU SO MUCH! I've had my drifting problem for two years and I wasn't able to fix it until now!

When I played Metroid Dread with the Pro controller recently, I specifically mapped L-press to a button, so that I don’t have to press the L stick whenever I do a speed boost. Fewer L presses, fewer drift issues.
So amazing!! The paper trick is what worked for me to fix my left/right drift! I have a wired pro controller so the disassembly was a bit more complicated, but got it figured out and back together. Fixed!!! 🎉🎉🎉
God bless you the paper thing worked . i have an power A controler , theres no tutorials teaching how to fix drift that works for them but the paper thing did it
@@VKsChannel I had the same issue with gamecube controllers in the past. Instead of using paper, I used a small piece of plastic food wrap. This helped the middle piece stay more snug in the potentiometer.
This worked for me! The video is missing a few things that I had to gather from other videos but the fix here is quite unique and is very effective. Thank you!
I fixed my off-center drift by removing a piece of debris on that white "analog center piece". No paper, no isopropyl alcohol, but air blowing that piece did the trick. The key was opening that teal colored cover to get at it.
Now VK has a NEW Nintendo switch PRO controller!, ya this is the most important tip that I caught in this video, because I don’t have a Nintendo switch😀
If you're here, there is a high likelyhood that your issue will be solved with the last step. Bend the wipers forward a bit and put a slim piece of paper or tape in the hole. It's actually better to just go straight to that first because you will avoid having to open and close your controller multiple times, which will increase the chance of something breaking.
Thank you VK! I tried it on my Surge Switchpad Pro Wireless Controller because one analog had INTENSE drift.. analog design is similar. Tried the paper fix and drift seems to be fixed. I will update in a month or if my analog will drift again.
I bought a pro controller day one. I dont use it religiously but it still works with no drift. Interesting. Makes sense that the controller would eventually drift.
Using a q-tip didn't get everything out and actually left a bunch of little hairs in the disc. Cleaning with a can of compressed air did the trick for me!
i have 2 powerA controllers and on both controllers both sticks were drifting really bad. so i did these 3 steps - - cleaning the graphite pads with methylated spirits cos i dont have isopropyl alcohol and when i cleaned them the q-tips came out black - bent the metal wipers a little bit - and the paper shim trick in the hole and now none of them drift anymore they all work but the one downside problem i noticed is the potentiometer protectors dont reconnect back well cos u have to bend them to get inside to clean, bend and shim
I need to try this fix out. I've had my pro controller since launch of the Switch. I've gone through 2 cans of air to blow the thing out every so often, which seems to be once a month at this point.
Honestly, when I got drift on my pro controller I was just like fuck it. And put a spritz full of Wd-40 on the edges, swirled it around. And fixed it right up. 8 months later still no problem. Oddly enough, it did not work for Xbox or ps4 controllers.
I did the same thing lol, but it still have a little bit of drift sometimes on the right stick, wen I go home, I will do the process again and see if it works lol
Hi, I put the paper on the wiper and the drift stayed to the left, then I put another paper on the other wiper and now the stick no longer detects any movement. I think I screwed up but could you tell me what happened?
I'm sorry, I don't have any experience fixing controls, but I'm trying to learn, and this video it's awesome explain the way to do it. But (always a but) I don't understand how to put (the correct position) the little slice of paper in the middle piece (drift solution) can you re explain please?
Did you close the potentiometer tightly? And did you put the wiper in the correct position? It is upside down in the picture i took the correct position is with the middle bump in the metal ring facing up
So my Pro Controller has a minor case of centering drift. On the calibration screen, the blue dot will "vibrate" inside of the center circle, but will almost never be dead center and still. It doesn't fight against my inputs, and it only seems to act up when I'm not touching the stick. It's especially prone to acting up when I very slightly and quickly move the stick and release. I'm also noticing that there's a VERY soft "grinding" and/or clicking sound when I spin it in circles. When I do it while pressing, the "grinding" sound is near nonexistent. In most games, this does nothing. But, in games where the left stick has practically *no dead zones* in the center, it's able to cause shenanigans when I'm trying NOT to move. The only prominent case I've had is in Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury. It seems like movement inputs are VERY sensitive with like no dead zone. I could stand still, and Mario would randomly turn and face backwards and then immediately go still again. Sometimes he might even walk backwards on his own for at least a quarter of a second. I've tried opening the controller at least 3 times, and sprayed the sticks with a plastic safe electronic contact cleaner, and wipe away any residue. The effect is either minor or nonexistent, cuz the drift still ends up being there. This video made me wonder if it's something to do with the sensor wheels as shown. I was afraid to actually tamper with the sticks due to the whole soldering thing, and this Pro Controller I have is a custom painted one from Controller Chaos. It would really suck if this issue got worse and made it unusable.
Pretty sure I did something wrong. When I took out the wiper from the potentiometer to clean it and reinsert it, both analog sticks stopped working altogether. There is NO input. Before I did this the sticks were drifting but now they aren't working at all. I even tried putting a piece of paper in the hole as demonstrated in the video and nothing happens. What should I do?
@@VKsChannel I think this was the issue, but it was VERY finicky. I was trying to fix this for 3 hours. In the end, it still drifts a little, unfortunately. But before it was drifting 100% of the time, and now it only drifts maybe 50% of the time and it doesn't drift as much. I think I might just get a new controller when it worsens. But thank you for making this tutorial and for the tips. I also watched your joy con drift video and that worked like a charm for me! Thank you!
Yap this fixed it. Thank you a bunch m8. I rly wish there was something else to use besides paper, because I know it will get lose eventually. Got any suggestions what we could put around it?
Just tried this and by gosh it works. My pro would go solely to the left. It would not go up down middle or right. I did this and now it works as intended. I still have a minor minor drift every once in a while. I’m going to take it apart and tweak it a little more but I think this is gonna be the solution that works for me! Now, If you would do a video about the top buttons not work on the pro controller, that would be dope. Another one I have has this issue. None of them work. L, R ZR or ZL. And I can’t figure out why
In BotW it seemed like my ZR button didn't work... but that was only because of the right stick drift. Whenever you're on the bike and you tilt the right stick (changing the camera), ZR (centering the camera behind you) does nothing. Maybe that's also the case for you? You could try your buttons in different games.
@@ZeldaPodSmashers no they don’t work at all. I go the button screen in system settings where you can test all the buttons and none of the top buttons work
