  • This is a must-watch interview for those diagnosed with thyroid cancer and considering surgery. Dr. Miyauchi is the pioneer of observation over surgery. He has guided thousands of thyroid cancer patients away from the operating room, and into observation instead; saving thousands of patients from thyroidectomy and preserving their quality of life.

He began the active surveillance or observation approach to thyroid cancer 30 years ago; during this period, not one patient died from papillary thyroid cancer. In fact, some patients' tumor volume decreased.
    Interviewed by Philip James
    Key moments:
9:30 - no one has died from papillary thyroid cancer
11:20 - some patients' tumor volume decreased
13:32 - sometimes the best treatment for prostrate and breast cancer is no surgery
16:20 - who scares patients into surgery?
21:20 - when presented with new treatment option, some healthcare professionals will resist

I was not given any other options other than cut it out!! My intuition has kept me from having the surgery. I was dx in Oct 2023 …Thank you for sharing this…I am now seeking a naturopath oncologist that will assist with active surveillance and any other medical needs

How did it shrink? What did the person do? Was it do to diet changes? Was the patient younger or older?

Hi @jandlesmith it is Philip here, I asked Dr. Miyauchi is there were attributing factors as to why some thyroid nodules and cancer shrinks. He says there is nothing they have identified. The topic is discussed in greater detail during this interview: ua-cam.com/video/Jz8tgu8BwYM/v-deo.htmlsi=el9riLC-8q7jTBGZ

I was diagnosed of having papillary thyroid cancer jan12/24, had total thyroidectomy surgery and left neck selective dissection ..I have to be honest I wasn’t afraid or get sad.. I was scared after I was at the unit as I almost had a cardiac arrest or stroke because my calcium level went critical as nurses focus assessing my vital signs yet I was already c/o having chest pain. Numbing and tingling in my extremities. It was scary experienced so glad I was able to advocate firmly for myself.and I have a medical background!

Did you feel something inside, like a bb or such? Need to go to the doc but it's just inflamed, I don't feel anything inside. (need some dental work tho so perhaps I'm worrying too much :/ )

I have been diagnosed with anaplastic Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma. OMFG it’s cancerous with 4.7mm growth. It is making me dizzy, giving me ear aches. Very painful only option is a full thyroid removal. OMG I feel it growing!

On a incidental finding, I have 8 separate nodules. I have 4 labeled...TR3 (2), TR4, and one TR5 with punctate calcification. On both sides of thyroid. Measuring 8x5x9, 9x4x11, 8x5x11...and trouble swallowing. I'm guessing FNA is next. Follow-up next week.
With all varying sizes and levels, simple, mixed, and calfication, I don't feel comfortable with the wait and see if it shrinks.
I have also heard of they put radiation pill in neck to attack the cancerous nodes, can you please give all the information to that treatment. TIA

Good luck! I have nodules that have been there for nearly 15 years and I am just now having them biopsied (FNA) for the first time. My Pittsburgh doc followed me until I moved and the other Endos did the same. Until this year, they had shrunk, but now it's bigger suddenly! I have Hashimoto's and take 36 mgs tirosent, I feel fine as I am naturally hyper and thin so other than dry skin I am older) I didn't even notice them. I hope we both have good results. I'll check back, I hope you do too.

Good luck to you. Do the fna first on all suspicious ones. Find a very good surgeon. They will decide if part surgery or full one. Then if required the next steps

I recently had a biopsy on my thyroid nodules and the results came back at 75% chance of cancer but my doctor relayed the term of pax8-pparg. I cannot find or get much information on this term but they are saying I should remove at least half my thyroid. Any input would be great!
