    I was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer. Both nodules were about 10mm. It had spread to my lymph node.
    Doctor in the UK said if it had not spread to my lymph node he may have done RFA ablation.
    So I decided to find someone who would do RFA. I thought what do I have to lose? If cancer comes back I'll just get my thyroid taken out or RFA done again.
    So I began to search for a doctor willing to do the RFA. Finally found one in india after 3 years. Got it done in November 2023.
    Will post the results in one years time if I'm still around and I remember!

      Dear Kathleen, thank you so much for sharing this information! My mom was diagnosed with thyroid papillary carcinoma just a couple of days. She lives in Switzerland.
      I could not find any doctor in Switzerland who can assess her for RFA eligibility. I found your doctor (Dr. Korkusuz) in the list and was inspired because he is not so far away. I wonder, whether my mom would be able to get an appointment with him, if she is a Swiss resident? But then I wonder if her insurance would pay for it or not. Thank you, Jen & Cyrus for sharing this! I'm in discussion with Dr. Korkusuz thanks to you, guys. Question that's still in my head - with papillary carcinoma, how can I get some sort of 'certainty' that you're ok after the ablation? One thing is the nodule being 'fried', but what about lymph nodes and potential metastases? I've read that esp. spread to lymph nodes is quiet common and not always visible on ultrasound. So in case of ablation, there's a risk that one ablates the nodule, but leaves out remaining cancer in the lymph nodes, is there not?

I suddenly started reading about it and got paranoid I felt like there was a lump in my neck. I went back to my home country in the Philippines, just 2 weeks ago where it’s so much faster to get everything done ( ultrasound, biopsies etc) I’ve done my ultrasound and they found and 3cm mass in my right thyroid (trirads 3). @@ItsmeJenagain I have a stage IV Bethesda nodule (based on a biopsy 2 years ago) near my isthmus. Consulted an ENT back then and he advised removal but I declined citing that the nodule basically stayed more or less the same size for the past 8 years. This year, I have had the nodule for 10 years now but unfortunately the nodule grew from about 1cm to 1.5cm compared to 2 years back. From time to time during the past 10 years, the nodule will occasionally grew bigger and smaller. I suspect that if I were to perform another ultrasound, the may has changed size too. This year, I have decided to do an RFA to at least reduce the "fear" that it will progress to become cancerous. Given that I am only 46 this year, I really can't bear with the thought of all the complication that may come along with a thyroidectomy and also the need to be eating thyroidxine for the rest of my life. I think it's all matter of probability and I am willing to take a shot at RFA. Even if the nodule regrow, which according to some study, it will be an indication of malignancy, I will still have the option of a complete removal then. Meanwhile, I also plan to have TCM to see how it will help me in the longer run. Thank you for your good work on this topic and I am sure it helps to give people information for them to make more informed decision for themselves. Cheerios.

    what ifthe cancer spread in your lympnode.

    • @ItsmeJenagain
      @ItsmeJenagain  8 місяців тому +1

      Patients are carefully screened to determine candidacy and are typically only selected if they have a solitary papillary cancer that is 1 to 1.5 cm or less. Patients with lymph node involvement are not considered to be appropriate candidates. After treatment, they have continuous follow up to monitor for any signs of progression, but typically don't. Papillary thyroid cancer is slow growing does not typically spread.

      @@ItsmeJenagainmine has Spread to a lymph node but I still had microwave ablation done. I thought what do I have to lose if I do ablation? No doctor would treat but after 2 years of searching I found someone.
      Will report back in 6 months to a year if it worked to those interested.

    Does RFA used for medullary thyroid carcinoma?

    • @ItsmeJenagain
      @ItsmeJenagain  6 місяців тому

      Not as a first line treatment. However, if it is inoperable RFA can be used as a palliative treatment in some cases.
