- 03-09-2024 I Caught the First Test Flights of the Presidential MV-22 Osprey Returning to Flight After Three Months-Long Grounding after deadly crash in Japan that killed eight service members last fall. The US military lifted it's flight ban on V-22 Osprey Aircraft, paving the way for the tilt rotorcraft to fly again for the first time in three months. This Osprey is #168284 Tail #02 Call Sign Nighthawk One with HMX-1

MV-22B Osprey's operate under the HMX-1 Marine Helicopter Squadron One is a United States Marine Corps Helicopter Squadron.
The Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey is an American multi-mission, tiltrotor military aircraft with both vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) and short takeoff and landing (STOL) capabilities. It is designed to combine the functionality of a conventional helicopter with the long-range, high-speed cruise performance of a turboprop aircraft. - Авто та транспорт
Nice one Ed. Good to see these in the air again.
Yes it was really good seeing them flying again, thank you very much for watching 👍😎
Outstanding work and footage the V-22, certainly keep up it all going, and as inevitably, do anticipate much, you had a wonderful and joyous time with making and sharing your fantastic works, as for the currents and for the times to come, to being greatly fortunate by the positives, for it’s always well done, and inclines to get better by everydays!
😉💯🍀🚁🤞
Thank you very much for all of your support 👍😎
Such a strange aircraft. Great capture! Thanks for sharing!
Strange but one of my favorites to watch so close in person, thank you for stopping by Michael 👍😎
This is the "plane" I wanted ever since I was a kid.
It is really awesome & incredible watching these up close in person. Thank you very much for watching 👍😎
Incredible catch my friend. Great video.
Thank you very much my friend 👍😎
Excellent close up show and sound of the fantastic Osprey, Ed!
Double thumbs up, my good friend 👍👍👏👏
Always a real treat watching these in action, thank you very much for watching my friend 👍😎

really cool airframe.....i love how they just keep trying to pound it into service over the decades of trouble. Cool....but just not a reliable or realistic system
I sure hope that they can get it corrected 👍😎
Amazing video of this impressive V-22 Osprey!
Thank you very much Matt 👍😎
Another industrial complex Albatross.
Thank you for watching 👍😎
We actually captured one flying overhead today twice
They did three test flights today, all went up past Santa Clarita Valley and back 👍😎
Amazing video!!!
Thank you very much for watching 👍😎
Why have an aircraft for the President and vp when they cannot use it.?
These were never intended for the President and VP to fly in, these are only for security.
Amazing footage Ed👌 What was the reason for grounding? I hope they fixed the pronlems🙈
I love the sound of the Osprey😍 Thumbs up my friend👍😉
I sure hope they solved the problems also, they had a deadly crash in Japan that killed eight service members last fall and several crashes before that one over the years.
@@EdWhisenantAviation oh that's very sad, I hope it too😔
I fly in the D.C. airspace, the FRZ, and SFRA, we see these a lot since they are based at MCAF Quantico, NYG. Shiny.
That's great you get to see these a lot, thank you for watching 👍😎

Very cool. Great to see it back on the ready line
I'm not sure they are 100% back to normal yet, still doing some testing, but it is nice seeing then up flying again. Thank you for watching 👍😎
Nice catch, Ed.
Thanks so much Dru 👍😎
I hope it one day ends up in a museum.
One day they will be in museums 👍😎
Very nice 👍
Thank you 👍😎

ED!! we have to know where was this one filmed? My boys have been trying to catch a V.22 osprey in person for a long time!!!
Hey guys, this was filmed at the Hollywood Burbank Airport.
Bob Hope Airport, Burbank. I missed it. 😢
@@penelopelgoss2520 I'm sorry you missed but I'm glad I caught it so you could watch it 👍😎
Do you remember what the time was from the start until the props spinning? (There were a couple of edits).
it can vary, but after it all unfolded it was approximately 2 minutes before blades started spinning.
I think the problem is mostly pilot error with these weird machines.
I watched one crash video that caused one of the groundings and the pilot got into trouble with turbulence when he got level or below the deck ( much like Australia's blackhawk crash off the the back of hmas Manoora(?).
I figure ( as an ex-commercial pilot) that when the blades are semi set between full on forward flight and helicopter mode ( like the engine are between the mode shown on test flight hear and say 45° the blades would be very sensitive to pitch stall if the airflow changed ( naturally caused turbulence) direction/ angle of flow and the the blades suffered dynamic stall.
That would cause a unexpected pitch/yaw movement that catch you out if you don't have the altitude to recover.
Great response, I have been told by several pilots that pilot error's while flying the V-22 does lead up to failure and possible crash. Thank you for your comment 👍😎
Has the president ever flown in one? Would be cool to see sometime
He is not allowed to fly in one, great question 👍😎
Can confirm they are flying again. Saw three of them chasing two VH-3D Whitetops between Moffet Field and SFO during three sorties Tuesday (to make sure there weren’t any stages with tripping hazards on the route) and Friday. I probably missed a few sorties.
I wonder how many rubber chickens they had to sell in Atherton to pay for fuel, crew, & maintenance.
Good to know that they are using then again and POTUS flyting in the VH-3D - Thank you for the update and for watching Pete 👍😎
Hey Ed. Do you know if California owns a Fairchild Swearingen Merlin 3 plane?
I'm not sure on this one Max?
@@EdWhisenantAviation Well, I saw a video of one landing at Santa Monica airport
@@maximilianrotondi941 Then I guess yes 👍😎
What did they fix to return them to duty
Nothing. More maintenance.
impresionante hasta donde llegara la tecnologia de la guerra
Yes is still really beautiful, thank you for watching 👍😎
The Blackhawk has far exceeded crash record against the Osprey. It makes me laugh how so many think they know about aviation, but really don't. Flying any aircraft in the inventory comes with great risk. A very nice view of the Osprey.
With this age of the internet, we know things instantly, that's part of the problem, if the internet were around during the development of the Blackhawk, that helo would have never been built, when u look at it, the Osprey has had 12 deadly crashes in its existence, and its been around since 1991....
@bobbertee5945 Flying any aircraft in the inventory comes with risk, especially in the military. No one is going to tell you that the aircraft is going to operate at 100% all of the time. The Blackhawk has had 400 incidents, with 970 deaths. It's with great sorrow of the Osprey crashes, as no one ever wants a downed aircraft. That in saying, all of you complain about the Osprey, when none of you know the numbers of any other aircraft in the inventory, you all just watch the news and run with the narrative. Yes, the Osprey had crashed, so have Blackhawks, as well as Apapahes, OH-50's, Chinook's, F-15's, F-16's, F-18's F-35's, C-130's and H-53 Stallion, most recently. This is where it's obvious that none of you know anything about the aircraft in the inventory. There will never be someone who is going to promise you a safe flight. Things go wrong! It's horrible, and it sucks, and if you don't understand any of that, you should never be close to any type of aircraft.
The risk is unacceptable and orders of magnitude worse because the deaths in the V22 are all attributed to inherent intractable design and engineering issues. Not operational error and misuse as in the Blackhawk. It makes me laugh how so many think they know about statistics.

Don't think the President would be allowed on this death machine!
You are correct, POTUS is not allowed to fly on-board any V-22 - Thank you for watching 👍😎
I am surprised that they would let a President fly in one with all the crashes they have had.
He doesn't fly on it.
I know but this video says he will. @@mh53j

The crash machine 😢
Let's hope not anymore 🤞🤞
Price ?
They publish $230M, but I think that's the parts only. Decades of developing and overruns have been forgotten. I'd much rather fly in a 53 or 47, survivable auto rotation.
Tão ágil como uma barata no melado..
Actually the Ospreys are very nimble and maneuverable and very nice to fly. Thank you for watching 👍😎
If I was the President. I’ll never get on one of those anytime in my lifetime. Didn’t Bell come up with a new variant? Just use that platform instead. Hopefully, they solved ALL the issues with the new one. This one is a nightmare.
The president is not allowed to fly in the Osprey and was never intended to fly in it. I agree with you I really hope they get this issue resolved and yes they have a new platform and I sure hope the new ones resolved this issue. Thank you for watching and for your comment. 👍😎
A fascinating machine, but in my opinion too complicated and therefore too risky to operate.
You want to tell me of a modern aircraft that isn't "too complicated" to fly?
Thanks for your "opinion"
@@mh53j One of the main reasons for retirement of the F-14 was the maintenance costs of its complexity. The same will soon be said about the B-1, and the F-22. Argument via "quotation mark" might impress 14 year old boys... but adults are talking.
This aircraft does not pass a cost benefit analysis... as those costs are assessed in lives.
Thank you for watching Gerry 👍😎

16 crashes since 1991 62 killed. A completely new approach to flying and figuring out the envelope over that time it’s not such a terrible record. Media hype, the competition and its unusual flight characteristics have made it a target. Unfortunately progress sometimes has risks. I think tilt rotors are here to stay and will be part of aviation from now on.
No worse than the black hawks safety record over its first few years in service
Media hype? If they didn't report on the aircraft's safety record no one would be aware of the unusual flight characteristics caused by inherent intractable clutch issues?
@@chrissmith7669
It is orders of magnitude worse because the deaths in the V22 are all attributed to inherent intractable design and engineering issues. Not operational error and misuse as in the Blackhawk.
@@gerry4b no. Its record is no worse than the blackhawk that also had technical issues at introduction as did the Apache, Phrog, Huey, and even f-16.
If you didn’t notice the clutch issue has also recently affected the Chinook fleet.
@@gerry4b there aren’t “intractable design and engineering issues” on the Osprey.
It's a shame, no President will ever set foot in one.

President and VP are forbidden to ride in it.
Correct, they do not fly On-Board the Osprey, thank you very much for watching 👍😎
Pres and VP only fly in white tops.
Vp who?
I am thinking they are waiting on the V-280 to see if it works better for this role.
I know this is hard to grasp, but no one in any military flight unit is ever going to promise you 100 percent safety. Does anyone here know the crash records for any other military aircraft?? I didn't think so... As there are many aircraft in the inventory that exceed the Ospreys crash record, whatever keeps the narrative going, right?? Flying any military aircraft comes with great risk, as well as any other aircraft, and if you don't understand that, you shouldn't be near any type of aircraft. I know the news makes everyone a know it all.
