      It might seem rather cruel, but that's always been a thing lol. Secret Service agents are also trained to dive in the line of danger for the POTUS as well. Everything surrounding presidential security pretty much amounts to "if POTUS' life is threatened, do what needs to be done to preserve it, even if it's at the detriment of your own life." They quite literally sign up for this, too. It isn't like it's shoved into their lap. You can bet your ass they're paid exceptionally well for it, though.

    Quick simple answer: Reason is because V-22s do not have long enough blades to cause auto-rotation in event BOTH engines fail.
    How many helicopters in history have survived crashes because of auto-rotation? Out of THOUSANDS of crashes over decades, you can count on one hand. How many V-22 crashes? 6 in its history. There are no guarantees.

    • @bavery6957

      "Out of THOUSANDS of crashes over decades, you can count on one hand."
      Nah, not even. Read any one of the many biographies from Vietnam-era chopper pilots. "Hard-landings" were more likely auto-rotating-in than anything else - at least hundreds per year during heavy combat campaigns, for sure...

    • @cloudstreets1396

      The V-22 utilizes torque transfer in case of engine failure. One engine can drive both rotors.

    the osprey entered service in 2007, since then 16 people have died in 17 years of service or about 1 fatality per year. Yes 23 people died in 2000 riding on pre-production test variants in 2 accidents but lets not overstate the danger or accident rate of the osprey.

    The V-22 unfortunately in case of total power loss will drop like rock
    A normal helicopter in case of total power loss can auto rotate which will be a hard but survivable landing

      That's BS! Auto-rotate rarely prevents choppers from rock dropping, or killing those aboard even in the ideal circumstances needed for this to have any effect! TheV-22 can fly with the loss of one rotor; choppers only have ONE!! No back-up, so they make up this auto rotate BS!!
      "Total power loss" in the case of the V 22 requires that both rotors stop working. For a chopper there's only one, so there's no such thing as partial power loss for a chopper! The V-22 can work on partial power loss. No such option for choppers! Interesting how you slant your comments to favor your preconceived ideas.

    • @verdebusterAP
      @verdebusterAP Рік тому

      @@nixl3518
      No, the fact is that in worst case of total power loss, V-22 turns into a brick
      Total power loss is both engines fail and yes that can happen hence why its called worst case scenario

    • @nixl3518
      @nixl3518 Рік тому

      @@verdebusterAP Actually YES to your NO!!
      So your contention is that IF the Osprey looses BOTH rotors, it will crash harder than a chopper losing ONE!! Yet in real life, if you have two rotors, its more likely one would survive a hit or a mechanical failure. A chopper does not have that luxury!! One problem and game over!! I don't see how you overcome this fact of math: Two better than one!!
      This essentially closes the case because it is less likely the Osprey falls as one rotor will keep it flying. If both rotors get hit, chances are the human content is eliminated along with them so there is nothing to recover!! So what if it falls any faster than a chopper??? 9.81m/sec2 applies to both; Arrival to the surface is essentially concurrent!!
      It's hard to see that there is any argument. Only a diehard chopper believer would be trying so hard to twist reality to benefit the chopper!! Get over it; once the tech is entirely worked out, there is nothing left to favor the chopper. There is not much more time left for choppers. Just think how hard it was for the first choppers to stay aloft and how hard it was to control them. They needed bug-people: people with six limbs rather than 4.... Seriously!! They fell much harder because their tech was much more primitive.

  • @Hope4Today9
    @Hope4Today9 Рік тому +15

    The Osprey is a great helicopter and fulfills more roles than any other helicopter. It's so called high maintenance has come down and calling it a money pit is unfair as it has two engines to service and the tilt wing and provides great value! So comparing it against a single engine helo or twin engine fix wing misses the mark completely.

    The v-22 in the last 10years is safer than other rotorcraft. Additionally, it is more survivable during a crash.

    It's rediculous and way over the top. The president of a free nation should not be that important. Stop and think about that for a minute.

    • @Project_-jq7jw
      @Project_-jq7jw Рік тому

      He's not that important, but I would say is more important than most people as he was elected by the country. Or do you think that being elected isn't important at all, or doesn't add any importance to whoever is elected? I'm trying to understand your logic.

    • @critical_always
      @critical_always Рік тому

      @@Project_-jq7jw Nah I don't think it is terribly important who is the president. Your country is guided by the constitution and congress for day to day stuff.
      Thankfully. This is why one individual can not and should not be able to make unilateral decisions.
      Let me turn it around... Does the country come to a grinding halt when the president is shot? No. USA is much bigger than the president.
      I mean, look as the string of human disasters that have filled the role of president. Thank god they don't have that much power.
