- Hey party people! thanks so much for hanging out with me while I share with you this new birthday party prep video!! It is Wolfgang's first birthday party!! GAAH I could cry. So bittersweet. The theme was fall festival / my little pumpkin theme and I think it turned out great!! I made a chili bar, an apple cider bar / spread full of all things apple, spiced cider, and pumpkin theme, many things I picked up from trader joes! I made a fall backdrop very simply with some natural hay, pumpkins and decor! the blanket really gave it that special touch! I made his cupcakes and smash cake with the worlds best icing recipe! AND oh gosh I almost forgot I made the cutest little homemake jam party favors! Everyone loved them and we've been eating it like candy! which it basically is. hope you enjoyed this party prep and got some party inspiration from it!! Huge happy birthday to our fifth and final little pumpkin, Wolfgang.

BEST icing recipe:
2 sticks of butter - whip until it's white and fluffy (I use salted butter)
1 lb of sifted powdered sugar to the butter
3 tbl heavy cream
1 tbl vanilla extract or paste

Get a couple rolls of Saran Wrap and cover those bales. Pain to do but keeps it all clean and still has a nice effect.
It just all turned out SOOO Perfect!!! When I saw the smash cake on Insta I was like "she went and bought a smash cake?!?!" cause you would NEVER...lol...it looked so cute!!
My niece just had a chili bar for her birthday. They had traditional chili and a white chicken chili!

If you get unpasteurized apple cider, it taste so much better. The pasteurized does taste like apple juice.
Please anyone making the jam - do not skip the water bath canning step if you are making the jam to keep longer than a few days!

You have to seal the jam jars in boiling water otherwise the jam molds... it would need to be refrigerated . Not a step to skip if your party was like a week later or you didn't refrigerate.
How long would it last in the fridge if the boiling water bath is skipped?

I think jam requires that you sterilize the jars and lids before using, and then boil the jars when they are filled. This is to prevent things like bacteria and botulism. When you take the jars out of the steaming bath, you will hear the lids "pop", and that is the signal they are properly processed/sealed. That aside: Beautiful first birthday party for a lovely boy.
RIGHT?!? I highly suggest you do NOT skip sterilizing the jars - or boiling them after filling - otherwise people can get very, very sick. (Not trying to be a buzzkill, just a long time canner who was shocked that that step was ignored.)

Happy first birthday wolfgang. When i made jam i was taught to sterilise the jars first , just saying lol. I can never understand a smash cake unless its a cupcake , i love cake so hate to waste it lol. You make every event seem effortless and fun , love your videos.
Sterilize first- I washed with hot water hope that counts for something haha maybe next time I’ll do it properly 👍

Because I am from Ohio farm country, but….. the hay is actually hale bales, not barrels, I just laughed every time you said it, no biggie and I’m not by any means insulting you, just funny!! When hay gets cut from the field it is baled and made into the rectangles you see, bales! Just sayin! I love you and your family and your channel, I am so excited every time you have a new vlog

The reason the jam recipe wants you to boil the jam in water, is to make it shelf stable. If you don't, it needs to go in the refrigerator when it cools or it will SPOIL.

Please put out some kind of disclaimer about that jam. Jars have to be sterilized first and hot water bath keeps it from spoiling. Canning properly is a big deal. 😢
I linked the recipe with the proper instructions. I washed the jars in hot water if that counts 😂 and I gave all of them out so I’m not storing them- so I didn’t do the water bath at the end. 🤷🏻♀️ maybe I’ll do the whole process next time when I have more time

@@thewadsquad actually just squeezing the juice from the apples and drinking it fresh, nothing added is the best. Lasts about 4 day's before it will start turning. But don't drink more that a glass or 2 a day, or else you and the porcelain throne will become best friends. 🤣😂
We live where there are apple tree's everywhere and wild apple's are the best. We press for cider every year and can applesauce. Best thing about apple's is you never have to add anything to them when pressing for juice or canning applesauce. It's the purest fruit to process. 😍🍎🍏
Ok…so I just rewatched ( for at least the fifth time) the birth of Wolfgang … in the shower… and sobbing at the beauty of life and birth💕💕🥲😊! Oh Kim! So beautiful Kim! What an amazing year and just look at that adorable one year old! Time seemed to go by so fast! You’re an amazing mother and you and Alex have been so blessed…so very blessed with all your beautiful kids! Thank you for letting us be a part of it all!

Kim.. I remember we you announced you were pregnant. I was so happy for you and your family. I found out about a month later I was pregnant too! With a boy due Nov 29th! I, too, have struggled with a clingy little boy who never sleeps. But knowing I wasn't alone in all this really has helped me get through those tough moments. "DO NOT" eat the jam if you have not processed it the proper way. Anytime you do any type of canning, you have to use "Water Bath" or "Pressure Cooking", and you didn't use the "Water Bath". You cannot change certain things in canning.

Water bathing makes the jam jars shelf stable. As long as you and your guests refrigerate the jam and use it up relatively quickly you should be fine

For your jamjars you can put elastic around the jars neck and fasten your ribbon to that removable but pretty. Great set up. Love everything. Great job done

Putting the jars in the boiling water seals the jars so that the jam can be shelf stable - so as long as you put the jars in the fridge and they get consumed quickly they should be ok

That jam recipe is for sealing the jar lids by having you water bath can it so it is shelf stable for a year or more. You can skip that if you just use it up within a few weeks.
The jars and lids should still be boiled - or run through a dish washer - to sterilize.
