    You have become my favorite teacher of the week - maybe longer. Everything you talked about in the 5 videos I watched address the issues I've been having lately. The takeaway action and wrist setting were killing my swing, because I was so unsure in this position. This drill is another gem.

    Love the way you deliver the "golf swing" tips and proper alignment/form into simple visual drills that a novice or intermediate golfer can implement into their practice routine. It's helped me create a 5 minute pre-round routine when I cannot get to a range before my tee time. BRAVO!!

    This is a fantastic golf tip! I’m a life long player currently playing to a single digit. I’ve never had a lesson and I’m totally self-taught. Yep, this resonates a lot! I got to this point about a year ago (after a very long long journey to get there) and really focus on nothing else now. People talk about clearing the hips on the downswing, but clearing the right side of the upper body during the pivot allows you to keep the arms out in front for more consistent delivery. Arms in front, let's you shift and drop into position. Even if you fub up, the misses are more manageable.

    Great video. I've recently discovered this 'elbow pits facing out' set up but have only been focussing on the trail arm and its already made s huge difference to my hand and club path. I was searching for width by keeping the trail side rigid and it always felt and looked awkward. I'll try this now with both trail and lead arms. 👍

    Hogan was a genius at golf, anyway, I really like the way you present this. For myself, I knew that the role of the arms in the backswing was to go up, I knew to keep the elbows pointing out, but I never tied the two together. I really like your teaching style, it literally is the art of a simple swing. All of these online lessons are saying the same things, but I like how you are presenting it. Simple, keep it up, I am subscribing :)

    Sorry I didn’t finish message. I used your drill to try to reproduce a good swing before the actual swing. It worked sometimes. I then modified it so that I only used a very short backswing but then the full swing through to make sure I got through the ball. This really worked well and gave me a good straight swing with reasonable distance. It was also repeatable which I have been finding very difficult. I also used the concept with pitch shots. Thanks again. Peter

    well, one handed training drills are the key. hold the club out to the left, with just the left hand the club. keep the clubface square. this activates the digiti minimi. this will help the heel pad of the hand to establish control in the takeaway. the digiti minimi then fully extends at the point of propulsion when the club is parallel to the target line. as the digiti minimi fully extends it activates the flexor retinaculum. this enables the wrist joint to push back- connecting the left arm with the left side- when the digiti minimi has fully extended. stop at the top of your backswing and put your right hand on the club. keep pushing back with the wrist joint as you put your right hand on the club. and, keep pushing back with the wrist joint as you set your downswing into motion by fully activating the muscle in the left side of your right forearm

    Strangely, this is exactly what I am working on at the moment. I have a problem though; I open my hips to much early, causing a flatter swing than I like, and it makes me cheat on the tilt and the rotation of my upper body. Getting the right elbow in what I think about as pos 1 (elbow pointing towards the body), helps with several things, such as keeping th arms (more) in front of me in the backswing, and maybe more importantly; in the downswing. Thanks!

  • @bostromberg4704
    @bostromberg4704 2 роки тому +1

    Fantastic instruction but I should say I sort of figured part it out by myselt esp. the critical hinge of the right arm. If fact I noticed on pressure shot there is a tendency to hold on to the club too much with the right hand which inhibit the hinge and The club comes down to fast often givning a big hook. I prefer the one piece takeaway mainly because it works with the short game too. Exposing the arms like that is new to me and it works

    Question Alex - I am an old man now, I have always been embarrassed to ask this question - But here goes - I have never received a golf lesson, but I was informed when I took up the game that one must take away with the left arm/hand (dominant hand) then follow through with the left arm/hand! It worked for me in my younger years, till I started shanking! I played off 9 then, I am now off 13.
    I have tried following through with my right hand/arm and have made some great shots, but also some shocking shots! My head/game plan of the golf swing is full of doubt from the first tee to the last! HELP!

    alex, i like the video and info. i have a bit of an unrelated question about new golf clubs, i went to a shop with a simulator and was hitting some new style irons with hollow heads and thin face, graphite shafts and juiced up lofts like a 7 iron with the loft of about 5 iron. of course i got all this added distance like they turned the clock back about 35 years but i'm not sure if i like it or not, i mean the added distance is fun but as golfers do we really need it instead of just grabbing the next club. what do you think of this new idea, is it an ego thing?

    • @TheArtofSimpleGolf
      @TheArtofSimpleGolf  2 роки тому

      Hi! Well if you liked the flight and feel and it made the strikes a little easier… why not?
      Only you can answer that.
      Yes it’s more challenging to use more “difficult” clubs… but more rewarding too.
      However if confidence and enjoyment are key to you right now… no harm!

    My first golf lesson 3 days after I started was how to hit a shank not how to prevent a shank but to hit one reason being so you could get around the tree in your way. Andy told me you'll look like Houdini when you pull it off. Also I was told every time I hit balls to hit a few Shanks so I had that in my bag. I thought this Andy who told me this was a little crazy at the time but I did as he said over the years and 10 years would go by where my ball wedged right behind a tree on number 10 at Spyglass 150 yards from the PIN the guys said I had no shot and had to re-tee. Under my breath I said you don't know my first lesson. I said I'm going to hit the shot as they laughed. I pulled out my 5-iron took a few minutes 2 size the shot up and pulled off the purest shot I've ever hit in 52 years the most beautiful shank that carried to The Fringe of the green rolled out 50 feet and died in the hole for a 2. My 350lb friend was jumping up and down on the green like a little school girl at recess. I thank my neighbor Andy who taught me how to hit a Shank until this day I've never seen anything like it.

    Alex, can you pause for a half second at the top?

    • @TheArtofSimpleGolf
      @TheArtofSimpleGolf  Рік тому

      Yes you can but I don’t love it for most… it should always be in motion.
      It can appear to stall because of the change of direction. This happens if you allow it and feel like you start your downswing before you complete your backswing
      Does not mean rushed.

    I think a lot of people just over complicate or just plain overthink the golf swing.... just relax, swing and hit.

    when you wear a long sleeve shirt the same color as background it's harder to see what's going on.
    Wear short sleeves and light color even if it isn't as cool

    At approx 3:10 you show a biceps curl with both arms, but then on the backswing the left arm is straight, and not curling at all.

      He means the feel at address. (inner arms facing up)
      I seen another video describing this set up as "giving blood", meaning to turning up the inner forearms up and facing the sky, and then just rotate your forearms only, in to the grip position

    Uh OK. Allot to think about and we're only on the backswing .... but I get it. I'll say it again ... you can do all the drills you want but once you have the club in your hands it all changes.

  • @paulazzar8936
    @paulazzar8936 Рік тому +1

    He's absolutely right, but it is so difficult to rotate the right arm, shoulder and hip at right angle to allow the left arm to travel to the top freely. Basically, you want the shaft pointing to the ball all the way to shoulder level and keep it pointing to the ball on the downswing. With that, you will never miss a regular shot.

    Ok. Maybe it’s just me. And I’m perfectly willing for that to be the case. Now without getting too much into the job of our brain for me personally if and when I am focused on a specific thing - when I’m trying to learn to DO something - I’ve found that I learn better and grasp information quicker if I am NOT having to continually change or adjust my focus from one thing to another. OK so -
    “DO” and “DON’T DO” are two EXTREMELY different and opposing actions. To go from one back to the other can be extremely jarring to the brain. No different than running one way and then being told to run the other way. Just for fun consider everything that has to happen in your brain to accomplish switching directions.
    If I’m trying to DO something that someone is showing me how to do then I have a specific thing to focus on.
    But if while I’m trying to imitate or match what I’m being showed or told - and then out of the blue I begin being instructed all of the things NOT to do -
    Again -
    Simply consider the amount of work you have just given to yourself to do.
    My point: I SINCERELY WISH those people making these videos would take the time to actually PREPARE what they are going to do.
    When I’m learning something I want to know what TO do AND know what not to do. JUST NOT AT THE SAME TIME.
