I'm 80, was an amateur international, won county and national championships but I've had 5 spinal operations and am now a hacker. Nothing helps and it's time to quit.
I think it's opening time at the pub.....
(Yes, this isn't my real name, it's a pseudonym!)
I would just add, I think your teaching is as good as it gets!
What does shallowing the club mean?
Alex is quickly becoming my favorite swing coach.
Why thank you!
Alex is my favorite swing coach. He has the gift 🏌️♂️👍
Great sr tips thankyou
Just the advice I needed. Thank you Alex 👍😁
Excellent and hope you feel and see some improvement;)
J'ai encore tout compris ! 😊 Merci... Très belle fin d'année ! 🎉
Ah, au fait, très jolie chemise !👍
Thanks for the great content!
Thank you for the great comment. Much appreciated
I will be trying all 3 of these tips tomorrow.
Good stuff and let us know how it goes. You might be better starting with just 1. but see how you do
Love all your content it has helped my golf game immensely.
Well that pleases me greatly! Thanks and keep at it!
Great, helpful tips. Thanks.
Glad to hear that!
Thank you for a very helpful video. Several good ideas to help less flexible golfers.
Glad you liked and hope it can help somewhat
Great lesson!! I will try all of this!! Thx!!
Have fun and let us know how it goes
Really a great lesson. Thank you.
You're very welcome!
Great tips, I’ll use all those tips. Thx
Nice!
Will definitely give it a go this weekend
💪 try just 1 if going right to the course and no practice. These don’t require lots of balls but at
You don’t want it to be Alien ;)
Brilliant video Alex . Can't wait to try this, keeping the hands straight etc. After impact
It should help a lot
Thank you..
As a senior golfer these are the tips I have been waiting for thanks
Delighted to hear it!
I’m going to try all your tips tomorrow! With the addition of slowing my swing down!
Maybe just try one lol ;) let me know how you go!
Great video!
Cheers martin!
This ties together a lot of the previous swing lessons for senior golfers. Alex, you're always keeping it simple and this lesson gives me that reinforcement to get my analytic brain out of the way on the golf course. I'm playing tomorrow and hope to be able to get these three ideas working for me. Thanks for making the process easier.
That’s much of the goal! Go enjoy your round, be precise in your target, let it flow and commit ;)
I will give these tips a try Thanks
Good to hear and let us know how you get on
The “hinge” drill at the end , with feet together, also helps with my rhythm. This is a nice, all-around video, thanks.
It’s a solid one to use regularly;)
Wonderful video
Thank you! Cheers!
Great tips/reminders as always, Alex. From the past, I still use your '3-inch backswing ,' focusing on my lead shoulder down and under my chin. Always helps. Thanks.
Marvelous ! Cheers and hope we can conttinue to help:)
Perfect!
Why thank you!
This has helped me tremendously as I also have limited rotation due to a back injury. Thank you and keep making these types of videos!👍
This should be easier for sure. We have other lessons her and a a couple of complete series in our online club
It’s wonderful ! Alex is not only a great coach for golf, but he allows me to also practice my english! He is so easy to understand …Thank you so much Alex. Yann from Britanny.
Merci Mon ami:) 👍🏌️♂️
Great tips. I’m going to try them tomorrow, as I usually have to soak in a bath after a round because my back is killing me!
Too common... Hopefully this helps somewhat :)
This is the holy grail of swings if you're struggling as an older golfer. I'm also using the slightly open stance and square to target shoulder's and it really helps with improving strike. Fantastic golf instruction 👍
Exactly the goal and I appreciate the feedback and sharing your experience! Cheers
These are great tips, and let me tell you as a 70yo, they work very well. Especially the ‘turn the rib cage’ prevents me from overswinging.
Excellent and thanks for the feedback!
Man you are the BEST !
☺️
Liked release move and opening stance
🏌️♂️👍
Thank You Again Alex always enjoy all the advice!! and the Shirt was that a reference to Genesis concert 🤣 (Phil Collins)
Good ol Phil!! ;) glad you liked the shirt and the lesson! Hope it’s helps somewhat
I do all three of these things.
I am 69 yo and I found pointing my feet outward really helps. I do forget over time. Thanks for the reminder.
I also have been trying to shorten my backswing (a’la Tiny Finau and Jon Rahm). I also find slowing down tempo (not rushing) helps too. I am going to try that slightly open stance but keeping my hips & shoulders square ☝🏻
Well I’m glad to have given the reminder ;)
We have a complete short swing maximizer program on the website as well as several short swing type videos on here
These tips for me at age 77, good luck amigos
Alex, you are really making a point about forgetting any kind of big rotation. I became conscious of that mistake very recently - I am 67 - which means I have been struggling over ten years as a senior for nothing else than rotten shots and b...dy inconsistency.
Now things are improving quickly 😉.
Better late than never. The don’t turn your shoulders lesson should help too!!
off to play 18 today, feet and core on the to do list, great simple advice, cheers
Let us know how it went!
Great advice for players like me with lots of health constraints, thank you. What also helps me is to allow the left heel to rise a bit and the left arm to bend slightly. What I struggle with is to straighten out both arms as you show. I tend to pull back the left arm a bit (Baby chicken wing). Best, Peter
Yes I have other videos on that element. Look up our golf swing release videos ;)
I think these tips are right on the money for my swing. I’m playing in the morning so will leave feed back on how I played ok . Thank you Alex great lesson 👍
Well I’m glad to be of assistance and I do hope at least one will help you a lot ;)
@@TheArtofSimpleGolf The position of the feet made my swing feel a lot less strain on my back and as a result played the last eight holes without being in discomfort. The day after as well. Felt a hell of a lot better generally over my irons. 👍thank you Alex
@@courtneypark2549 excellent and well done for trying it!
Loved these 3 simple tips. I've had back problems for the last 10 years and these tips take a lot of stress of my back.
Glad to hear it resonated and can help as tat’s the goal! :)
I do one other thing is I raise my left heel of the ground a out 2inches when making my backswing. And use it as a trigger to start my downswing. It helps to get my lower body in motion
@@paulmorris9444 great move and we have got lessons on maximizing that move in a program and also some video on here covering it
Hi
Thanks for tour vidéos 👏🏌️
So What about the low point in the stance..? For a hybride farway Wood
Patrick
Still just after the ball but the set up is a little different. We have some videos on it
61 yr old, limited swing , hope this helps me out with good distance Gary Strain England
Alex can you offer me a course of lessons to free up my golf swing and flexibility and regaining strength after heart failure and pacemaker defibrillator being fitted? Please
Blimey, sorry to hear that. My best friend is waiting to have one put in.. he was born with a dodgy ticker. Email me and will see what I can suggest.
Love these tips. I have a mild form of Cerebral Palsy that mainly effects my left side. My left arm and leg are quite weak and rigid. I struggle turning through the ball and often will hit a push or hook it. Definitely need to work on my transition. Have a hard time feeling my downswing starting before I end my backswing. Would love to see more tips like this.
Hi, well there are going to be some challenges with that for sure when it comes to swinging… however a weaker left side does not have to mean all bad. Trying the right arm only drill and maybe the recent video with left arm and upside down ckub release may well help.
Opening stance and not trying so hard to rotate too ;)
Keep at it and don’t forget the short game!
@@TheArtofSimpleGolf thank you. I will certainly try the right arm only drill. I have been doing the upside down club release drill daily.
Continued success Brian
In 15 days I'll be 79. Where have you been since i was 52, that's when I started playing. You can subtract about 10 years from that and that's my experience. I have yet to break 100. now you can understand my 10 yrs. hiatus, frustrations. In just 2 weeks of your vids I'm striking the ball better, granted at the range. I wish it would stop raining so much so i can get to the course. I can guarantee I'll be in the 90's. Tnx, I will let you know.
Well I’m glad you are here now!!
Great Tips
Ur right., not a Spring Chicken anymore!
Great Shape but things don’t move like they use to.
im Still trying to Swing like a 25 year old
We have to accept at some point lol ;)
I like the idea of pulling the lead foot back a few inches. Could you do this for irons and woods, including the driver?
Certainly you can!
Great video and great tips, a question I have is, is there anything different with these tips with a driver or wood off the tee? That’s a big problem I’ve had recently with my lack of flexibility. Thanks!
Not really no. Set up is a big aspect of it. More tilt and ball position.
Alex: moving the front foot a bit to the left while keeping the shoulders square to the target looks a lot like the Eureka swing. No?
Thank you for your swing advice, I believe it will help my ball striking ability. Here is my problem. I have arthritis in my knees. shoulders, and lower back. I use to have about a twelve handicap, but know it is too high to calculate. I am not sure I can get enough flexibility in my legs and arms to complete even the shortest backswing for an entire round. It all most feels like my arms, legs, and back get more stiff the more I play. Do you have any suggestions on how I can keep my joints more flexible as I play without going through a whole warm up routine each time holding my playing partners up.
Hi.. sorry to hear that you joints are struggling a bit. If you look on UA-cam there are a few moves you can do to help blood flow and joints for that. Pressure and stretching in ways. It’s subtle but that’s what I’d do. That and some shark cartilage supplement. Or CBD is great
Do you recommend impact bag?? Please advise. Best regards
In part. But not for long or extended periods. It's good to delop sequence and impact assertiveness... but it detracts from the target, the intention and shot you want. So you must combine it with THROUGH as well
Great tip, is it still ok to pull your left foot back a little, even if your bad shot is a slice with the driver? Thank you 👍
100%! Try it!
Do you have any instruction that touches on turning the logo of the glove up towards the sky at the top of the back swing? For better shallowing.

Should help
Some people are better at teaching the golf swing than others
I am not sure if this is a compliment or a put down lol ;)
Just getting back into it after twenty year break. I took a couple lessons and the moves were not possible in my current shape and age. It was actually painful especially when he tried to hold my head in place while I tried to make the turn. The back and neck did not like that. Anyways after last lesson he said work on it for awhile before coming back. It kind of felt like he was giving up on me. And it’s not like I have never played sports, played hockey, baseball, and some football. No big deal but I still want to hit the ball better. So will try this and get back.
Welcome back! Please do let us know how you get on ;)
As a senior man who was solid around golfer a while ago, since then has developed RA, (played OK with it), now more recently developed PD so led to balance issue. So, watching this video gives me some hope that maybe I can play some decent golf, thanks👍🏻👍🏻😄😄
It certainly is possible. Try at least one and see how you get on ;)
Hi Alex, 6:14 is that height only the complete back swing that is needed?
Yes that’s fine. Momentum will take it a little further in a real swing
I walk and stand pigeon toed and my left knee will not allow “ free flow “‘through the ball. No one has ever discovered this anatomical difference or addressed the issue and I have always fought to “release “ the club. Looks like I have work to do!! Thanks
Great video Alex easy to follow just spent 20 minutes in garage using the 3 tips and no straining but after completing the straight arms part my follow through has the club over my right shoulder will this be a problem
Many thanks from an inflexible 72 year old fart
Sounds like you maybe steering it. The arc goes around not to the target
3 bulging disks and a spare tire around my waste restricts me a lot. Thanks for the info
Just try one or two of the tweaks and see how it feels
Hi Alex, with the iron, do I swing down (abt. 45deg) towards the ground pass the ball (abt. 2inch.) instead of flat along the ground towards the targat?
A little bit that way yes
@@TheArtofSimpleGolf thanks 👍
Does the left shoulder not tilt downwards towards the ball during the back swing as well?
That feel is fine too. Try both
At 36, I'm definitely not the specimen I was at 24, but still in decent shape, with wear and tear from work catching up. These tips work.. and as a reminder for those that have back pain after a round.. don't forget to STAY HYDRATED. Quickest way to cramp up out there and waste your money on a crap round
Well said! And yes, electrolytes and water help keep agile. Keep at it :)
I find it harder to get down and through the ball after a series of knee, achillies and lower back surgeries. Should I lengthen clubs or adjust my position to the ball. Strong upper body, relatively immobile lower half. I want to make golf fun again
We have several lessons that can help… here’s one. ua-cam.com/video/hP0uD6m770I/v-deo.html
There was a guy called Dr. MINDY BLAKE I think he got to 2 handicap. He advocated both feet pointing left in stead of both flared out. I find due to back damage the flared position makes the transition through the ball painful. If i Mindy Blake it it is less painful. However the backswing then gets restricted. It is a catch 22 situation. Is it possible you could look into the Mindy Blake stance and point out the positive and negatives of that. Just a thought of another video. thumbed up.
You know what I will! But I have tested this a little myself and with students. I did not know of Mr Blake though. Cheers!
My lower back and right elbow have been hurting a lot lately. I think I'm swinging with way too much force and spinning out over the top. Really need to build a less aggressive swing.
Sounds like that is possible yes. Well maybe 1 or more of these with make the difference
👍
💪🏌️♂️
That's me
Maybe not for too long:)
If I understand well, you are shifting your weight forward at the end of your backswing?
Yep:) 🏌️♂️👍
I am topping badly. Any suggestions?

Aka Ther Easiest Swing by the late Brian Sparks.
Yes my body feels like a 2x4
Lol well I think some of these tweaks will help :)
Bring back this shirt!
How do I relax my dance ring from following through too fast supervision why I supervision why I asked that question is because My dance swing is too fast and I have bruised my ribs
How do I relax my down swing From following through too fast Simple reason why I ask this is because I have brought is because I have bruised my Ribs from trying to come through too quick
Look for our tempo lessons. And keep back to target in downswing videos
Great tip to assist , BUT , It's also easy to learn when You watch someone hit a Few Shots ..... Please look at this as a more interesting Method of Teaching this to Seniors ..... Hit More Shots with a Brief Talk with Each . Good lesson tho
Noted! I don't always hit lot's of shots in these because it's about how folks translate and feel their own swing. thanks
Everything you are saying I agree with. However, almost everything you mentioned are part of the stack and tilt system.
I know a little about stack and tilt but I much prefer milder components. It can work for some folks some of the time. And really, I’m 90% of good golf swings there are elements of what stack and tilt have focused on. Not the other way around.
In this video you say pull the left foot back in setup, yet on your video on the 27th of February you said put the right foot back. Make your mind up, which is it? I'm scared I will get confused and fall flat on my face at the first tee. :)
As I try and explain and mention in most lessons.. it's a matter of seeing which YOUR body suits better and what feel YOU prefer. It's not one size fits all. Depending on limitations and proceeding patterns.
I’ve been working out for 8 year so I’m more muscular than the average guy. My flexibility is trash now
This should help now and in the future. Don;t forget mobilty and stretching though :)
Blimey at 6.0 we were on to plan B…. lolololo
🏌️♂️👍
