It’s been a hard stressful day. I work in state child protective services. Driving home I remembered it was Thursday and a new episode was going to be there when I got home. This made things a bit better.
Great channel fellas! I actually helped the new owner sail this beauty home to Halifax this summer. She's a beautiful boat. Fast and comfortable to sail.
Though not a sailor myself, I find this particular channel one of the most enjoyable specially the human and professional interactions between Captain Q, who seems to be capable of transforming a dried fish into the sweetest of syrup, and Ran-day with his radiating intelligence, knowledge and wit. Another complement should be paid for the camera crew and the editor(s), the shots are just quite stunning, well done.
For your next vacation try a captained character instead of a stay at a resort. You’ll know almost immediately if sailing is for you. Be warned... it can become an addiction.. even a lifestyle.
@@CheekyMonkey1776 that's a great suggestion. I think I will do that. Was gonna take sailing lessons with ASA also. I like this channel because he teaches you about the parts of a sailboat and you get to see different setups and layouts.
Very nice and tidy boat. You can always tell what kind of attention a boat gets by how she is laid up for the winter and this one was done extremely well. Thanks Captain and Randay for sharing it with us.
Boy, does everyone in their 50's remember THESE boats? I think I've spent more bluewater time in all of these C & C 38's & 40s than all other boats combined. Really a safe boat, I think C & C shortened the stick to reduce sail area and power, moved the mast back ( 8" to 10" inches to lighten the load on the steering, limited the complexity of the rig to make cruising a little simpler- a very nice sailing boat. THIS boat is definitely more than a 20, Cap'n Q- what were you thinking? That hull is smooth & well fared (no Mr. Fix it repairs caused by docks n rocks), heck the self ablating anti-fouling paint is darn near perfect! Heck, I think that's gotta be worth 10 points- all by its lonesome! Sure that Navy blue paint needs a lil love & PPG paint ain't cheap, but- I didn't see a single leak...anywhere! Heck, I might've eaten that Dinty Moore right out of the scuppers! (OK, maybe after the bottle of champagne, but- you get the idea!!!) This vessel might be the best value seen in a looong time, Capt'n Q & Ran-Day!!! I'm no surveyor, but- it lit the fire in my heart. It might even be my PB... Dangerous language- best stop now before I look fer the checkbook!
@@lorib5398 Well, if you are the proud seller- congratulations! I hope it is going to someone who appreciates all of the time spent keeping her fit as a fiddle with no brightwork left unpolished! She deserves a loving owner owner though (he cautions, a lil salty water in his eyes), someone who will keep her well & understands although she's older, she will provide speed and safety to one who keeps a keen eye on the details of her upkeep & maintenance! It's a version I've never sailed (wall & doorway between the rear Qtr. berth & the galley) & one that I wish I could call my own! Cap Q, RanDay. The two of you make my day. Not to mention teaching me about sailing! I always dreamed about motor yachts, now I dream of sailing round the world! Sorry to say it will stay a dream, but dreams keep us sane! Thank you and see you next video!
I know someone with a slightly newer 38 C and C but it didn't have the rear quarter berth, the gally was on the port side and it had a bath tub, and there was no mast in the middle of the floor it was on the head bulkhead forward more. Same exterior though. He takes people on charter cruises with it.
What a find. Light the fires and kick the tyres and just go. Excellent value too. What more could you ask for, for around $40k. Someone IS going to be a very happy new custodian ;)
I haven't sailed that many boats but I chartered a C&C 38 for a day in San Diego. Rare day with steady 20 kts . Nicest boat I ever sailed. Well balanced could steer with three fingers very slight weather helm.
Everytime waiting for captain Q its the breeze in the stressful week . Here in India there are not many boats or people cruising but I want to be one of the few who do and you keep inspiring
Love these boats for cruising. This is a beautiful example of a well loved and cared for yacht. She would take you anywhere you wanted to go. Thanks for the tour. Brings back some great memories.
Good work pointing out the draft differences. Many sailors never get past the Bahamas and 7 feet is way too much draft. 5 feet works well for the intercoastal, Florida keys and the Bahamas. 6 feet is probably maximum. Another consideration. The dark blue hull is beautiful but hot in the tropics. Good work guys.
Capt Q what a dream boat! Randy is such fun pointing out berth space for you, including a pillow for a short nap. Engine is a tight fit, need to have filler ports clearly marked. Don't know how easy supplying would be underway. Loved the bar in the galley. 😄🥂
Some years ago, we chartered a Landfall 38 in the north channel of Lake Huron. She handled some really nasty late summer weather and sailed beautifully. Unfortunately the downpours confirmed that she had a lot of deck leaks and was taken out of the fleet the following season. That said, as a C&C 27-III owner, I'd buy one ian heartbeat but she would be a tad too long for my club.
Captain Q has a wealth of info so happy he likes to share...speaking of sharing...It's summer and Thursday and in this town that's always been for a very long time ...BBQ Night....Farmers Market and BBQ...San Luis Obispo , Calif...I think a BBQ checkout on one of these sailboats might be in order for you and some friends...Thanks for the show
I love you guys. I ain't gay, just absolutely appreciate the wealth of knowledge you deliver in such an awesome way. My hope is that someday you guys will get on one of these boats, show what is involved in getting it properly outfitted for a longer passage with included costs and have a series of videos focused on the art of sailing and what is needed upon arrival in a port (how to anchor properly, what distance is good from other boats, how to acquire a slip or mooring, etc.). All these videos just make me want to see you guys putting all that sailing knowledge into action. It truly would be great to see you guys do an in depth sailing vid or series though! Even if it was just the captain shouting out orders with Ran-Day running around fixing sheets and dropping the anchor etc. If you need a camera man, that would absolutely be like grown up Disneyland, for me. It would also be great if you guys could come out and do some vids in southern California, especially when you guys are slipping around in the snow and ice out in New England. Not even Sea dog wants to be in that!
I've been fixing up a C&C 38 Landfall since October, and I can say this boat looks amazing! The price is definitely set to sale, totally worth it if there is no delamination in the cored hull. Check around the three head through-holes and make sure the holding tank never leaked as they screwed the nav station flooring into the hull from the inside.
This is one beautiful and very functional boat! Thank you Captain Q, Ran-Day and Sea Dog for this great and well covered video! I aspire to retire to something like this.
G`day Captain and Ran-day another week come and gone, been busy all week but watching this now on Saturday night in West Australia. wow another beauty, skeg rudder and lovely shape to her, a classic yacht in fantastic condition for her age, a credit to her current owners. The only thing that worried me was getting into that tight engine bay but at this price I wouldn't sook about it ,Just hoist them sails and get out there. Love you guys Thanks again.
It my boats.... This isn't my actual boat, but I do own a 1979 Landfall 38 which we sail on Lake Huron. I always wondered how Captain Q would fit in my bed... Ours has a 2nd after berth where the nav desk was on this boat and we don't have the seperate shower. Great boats, they point up wind well and are fast.
Thank you Mathew Both layouts can work nicely Good to hear from Fresh water sailors I’ve sailed in your waters but only when they reached Erie and Ontario :-)
Nice land yacht Q, very shiny ... Boats nice for 40 yr old, the only big issue would be for a cruising family with child. That rear qtr berth didn't look big enough for 2. Plus you have to open to get on deck, so semi-private cabin ? Love the hull gelcoat, amazing for 40 years ... 👍
I think I'd like a boat that heels less. Is there such a thing in a monohull? I like the shoal draft, the separate standup shower, the nav station is quite strategically placed with the quarter birth. It would be nicer, I think, if the forward cabin was a quarter birth and use that space for a bigger bathroom.
Very nice boat, with a very nice price. I hope it'll find a good owner taking good care of her. Not fond of the engine arrangement, but it's not a dealbreaker in my opinion.
The radar that swings between nav station and helm is a great idea. The engine room gave me a flashback to oil changes on a 80's toyota truck...chopsticks/dental mirror/trained monkey... A really nice middle ground price-wise and feature-wise. Do you guys do requests? I'd love to see something on sailing dinghies/ day boats. For the dinghy cruising set!

What do you think of a 1974 cascade 29 with a 15 hp 4 cylinder westerbeke. Paid 2500 dollars. In fair condition. A guy named Ed Hart sailed one around the world. The only thing I don't like is it has a bolt on cast iron keel. I see the same westerbeke mini diesels going for twice what I paid for the boat.

As I remember, the Landfall series caused quite a stir when they were first introduced. C&C broke a lot of new ground with their ability to combine performance and comfort.
Perhaps you could educate your subscribers on boat hull and deck construction. Is single skin or solid fiberglass construction better than cored construction? If cored construction is used, is Airex foam core material the best core material? When you review a boat, can you tell us if the hull and deck are solid or cored? If cored, can you tell us if it is Airex core material? It seems to me that the most important part of a boat is the hull. Next is the deck. Do you agree?
Another great vid from Q&R. Headroom better in this one but we're still not there yet. Is there any sailboat on Earth, 40 feet or shorter, with at least 6.5" headroom?
Love your channel! We’ve been researching various Bahamas cruising boats in the 35-42’ range and this was on my list along with Tartan 37 and Morgan 382-384’s. My hesitation with this model is the spade rudder vs skeg supported. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks!
love to have a skeg whenever possible especially in our neck of the woods in New England as it seems likely that you'll kiss the bottom at some point in your sailing career... best to keep the rudder protected. Not to mention the lobster traps we have around.... but absolutely nothing wrong with a spade rudder and we have both raced them without much worry. Just a little more diligence required when dodging lobster pots.
I have always hated climbing ladders. I feel captain Q should have motorized stairs to get into the boats. When I had my 22 Catalina in a shop I found one of those stairs on wheels like you see at Lowe’s and arrange to obtain it for the boatyard. With the stipulation that whatever boat I bought into the yard I would get first use of those stairs
I love what I see in the C&Cs except reading the forums about excessive very common core rot. Extremely scary to think you might make a purchase and this very expensive repair would get missed. Worse yet your boat could break up in a blow. You didn’t broach this aspect of the mark?
You are right on....and this is where a proper survey would help suss out any core issues. Ours is a preliminary review and we strongly recommend leaning on your surveyor for deeper dives into details. thanks for watching!
@@YachtHunters Any tips on finding an honest surveyor that’s NOT in bed with the broker? In other words that would conveniently overlook something like core rot, engine or rigging issues $$$$$$ to “make” the sale?

If cored, can you tell us if it is Airex core material? It seems to me that the most important part of a boat is the hull. Next is the deck. Do you agree?
Hello nice video thanks saludos
Actually I think they were from Port Credit 14 miles outside of Toronto.
I need some help with a petition to re name Thursday. For every day after hump day and before Friday, shall be named “Ran-day”
Another great vid from Q&R. Headroom better in this one but we're still not there yet. Is there any sailboat on Earth, 40 feet or shorter, with at least 6.5" headroom?
Not of this vintage and price but check out the Hunter deck salon models I think they have 6 ft 10 in
Love your channel!
Id like to offer the captain some portable oxygen. It would make me feel better.
Oh thanks. But I’ll be fine for now
I’ll try to breathe a little less
I just get too excited about these boats
would this be good for a first sailboat? i've had regular cruisers, never had a sailboat.
Oh come on! Three cans of Dinty Moore so that is worth a point! 21 points! LOL
Good point!
A great boat good captain, has Ran-Day ever picked up a boat yet? I seem to remember he tried to get one of the channels finest last season.
Maybe
I have always hated climbing ladders. I feel captain Q should have motorized stairs to get into the boats. When I had my 22 Catalina in a shop I found one of those stairs on wheels like you see at Lowe’s and arrange to obtain it for the boatyard. With the stipulation that whatever boat I bought into the yard I would get first use of those stairs
Great idea But it won’t fit in the back of either Jag. 😭😭
