The IDEAL Racer/Cruiser? This Sailboat ROCKS! A C&C 36-1 for $25k with TONS of upgrades. So, Canadian Ken finally had his day in the sun - we toured a sailboat that was made in his homeland of Canada! And we learned something about Ken, too: He played hockey with Bobby Orr and learned to sail on Georgian Bay - right near where Bobby Orr grew up! But the real win of the day was this C&C 36-1. What a cool sailboat!
The 1979 C&C 36-1 is a classic sailing yacht that stands out not just for its timeless design and sailing capabilities, but also for the extensive upgrades that have been meticulously added to enhance its performance and comfort. Currently listed at an astonishingly affordable price of $25,000, this vessel represents an incredible value for anyone looking to own a high-quality, well-maintained sailboat. Located in the charming town of Rockland, Maine, and stored indoors during the off-season, this boat is primed and ready for adventure.
The C&C 36-1, designed by the renowned Cuthbertson & Cassian, is celebrated for its balanced sailing performance, sturdy construction, and elegant lines. This model, built in 1979, is a testament to the enduring quality of C&C Yachts. With a length overall of 36 feet, a beam of 11'5", and a draft of 4'5", this C&C 36-1 strikes an ideal balance between racing and cruising capabilities. Its sleek hull and powerful rig make it a competitive choice for club racing, while the comfortable interior and thoughtful layout ensure it is also a superb cruiser.
Extensive Upgrades throughout!
The boat is equipped with state-of-the-art B&G electronics and radar, providing sailors with precise and reliable navigation tools. The new B&G system includes a range of sensors and displays, such as a multi-function display, wind instruments, depth sounder, and GPS.
Rigging
The rigging has been upgraded with newer rod rigging, which is known for its superior strength and durability compared to traditional wire rigging. This upgrade ensures better performance, particularly in high-wind conditions, and reduces the need for frequent maintenance. This rigging is estimated to be 6 years old.
Galley
The galley features a new Force 10 oven, a top-of-the-line marine stove that is both reliable and efficient. This upgrade transforms the cooking experience on board, allowing for more versatile and enjoyable meal preparation, whether at anchor or underway.
Comfort and Protection
The addition of a new bimini provides excellent protection from the sun, enhancing comfort during long days on the water. This upgrade is particularly valuable for cruising in sunny climates, offering shade and reducing the risk of sunburn. There is also a piece that connects the bimini to the dodger, affording extra protection while at anchor or on the mooring.
This C&C 36-1 has been lovingly maintained and is in good condition. The original gel-coat still shines brightly, reflecting the meticulous care it has received over the years. The bottom of the boat was recently soda blasted and repainted, ensuring a smooth, fast hull free from old paint buildup and marine growth. This recent bottom job not only improves the boat’s performance but also its longevity.
Location and Storage
Located in the picturesque coastal town of Rockland, Maine, this yacht benefits from being in one of the most beautiful sailing areas in the United States. Rockland offers easy access to Penobscot Bay, known for its scenic cruising grounds, abundant wildlife, and charming harbors.
During the off-season, the boat is stored indoors, protecting it from the harsh winter elements. Indoor storage is a significant advantage, as it prevents damage from snow, ice, and freezing temperatures, ensuring the boat remains in top condition year-round.
Survey and Pricing
A recent survey from October 2023 is available upon request, providing potential buyers with a comprehensive assessment of the boat’s condition. This document is invaluable, offering a detailed overview of the yacht’s structural integrity, systems, and overall value.
At a listing price of $25,000, this C&C 36-1 is an absolute steal. Given the extensive upgrades, excellent maintenance, and prime location, it offers exceptional value for a discerning sailor looking for a ready-to-sail vessel.
Conclusion
At an incredible price of $25,000, this C&C 36-1 represents a unique opportunity to own a classic, well-maintained yacht that’s ready to sail away. Whether you’re an avid racer, a casual cruiser, or someone dreaming of coastal exploration, this boat is an ideal choice. Don’t miss out on the chance to own this amazing boat, upgraded and maintained to the highest standards, and start your nautical adventures in one of the most beautiful sailing areas in the world.

Excellent video. Gracious of you to mention Captain Q. I am sure there are many out there like me who miss him. We all have to be ourselves and you are providing a very similar service in your own style. I look forward to you punching through 10K subs in the next few weeks!
Thank you for your kind words. And thank you for watching!
Giant kudos for the Captain Q mention! He was and always will be The Man! Honorable mention for Ran-Day, who's carrying on in a great way!
I should have mentioned Ran-Day! I’m enjoying his show now, too. Thanks for watching!
Great episode! Great boat! I love the history lesson! Like yourself I miss Captain Q on Yacht Hunters. Actually you kinda remind me of him. The torch is now yours to carry my friend!
You’re far too kind but I greatly appreciate your words! Thank you for your support!
Captain Q has gone to "hither and yon". Miss his episodes.
Thanks for trying to fill a little bit of the gap you guys 🤙
His shows were so enjoyable to watch, that is for sure. Definitely missed. Thanks for your support!
Wow, you are giving me hope I can pull this dream off. That would be a tight live a board but workable for a great price.
Do it!
Excellent work guys ! 🙏
Thank you, sir!
You guys need to come to the PNW and find boats like these! ...and invite me to trail behind you by about 15 min to make an offer!! Sweet C&C 😊
We just might do that! Appreciate your comment!
To the best of my knowledge Bob Perry designed some of the later rod rigged performance 36's, they are good coastal cruisers but it wouldn't be my choice for ocean passage making, there are literally hundreds of these boats listed for sale, nice for her age
Thanks guys! She seems in good shape for her age. Nice factory woodwork. Good layout.
Subscribed, in honor of Captain Q.
Thank you! And appreciate your comment!
Big fan of Captain Qs videos..miss him ..
What a steal! I raced against CC40's back in the day and they always sailed to the Rating Rule.
Agreed! Thanks for your continued support, David!
Spade rudder, no skeg...nope.
I get what you’re saying but it’s been on there for 45 years without issue…😬
The vid is on racer cruisers
Not ocean crossers
Also a balsa cored hull.
@@maybeharoldAh costal cruisers can loose there rudder also do to hitting flotsam, you don’t have to be mid ocean.
Would you say the bulb keel, the condition and breed of that boat comprises the value?
Wow pretty clean hooray for C&c
Definitely clean!
Another great video. Love the quick drone shot...
It was a neat trick trying to fly that in the building! We'll get better with it!
@@boatfools I bet it was tricky. Looks like Canadian Ken was on it though!
Nice boat, low hour diesel. Newer bimini and good layout below, nice coastal cruiser and quick. If C and C is your jam, great boat eh :)
Ha! Yes, solid! Thanks for making us prove Canadian Ken is actually Canadian…
I’m new to all this but learning. Is this set up, rudder, keel, etc., not good for mid ocean cruising? There are a couple of comments lamenting the rudder setup and the keel only bolted in. Thank you for your input.
Hi dana I’m not the person to give you a hard answer, I believe the C and C is more of a racer / coastal cruiser. Having said that plenty of coastal cruisers have crossed oceans. It’s a big debate in the sailing world. My advice is to get as many perspectives as possible and form your own opinion, good luck 👍
@@patrickfalter4487 thank you for the reply!
Older C&C's have solid GRP hulls and balsa-cored decks. Unfortunately, the decks tend to get spongy because the deck hardware (stanchions, etc.) was not installed with sufficient water ingress protection, and the balsa is not sufficiently sealed in cells (unlike old Grampians, for example). But they are such lovely boats, like the C&C 30 Mk. 1, the 35-I & II, and 27 mks. 1-4.
The 36 has a fully cored hull.
Love our ‘85 37
Such great boats! Thanks for watching!
Van is absolutely THE Man....
but you don't ever say it to his face.
"I'll never see why people have to tell me all this Sh**e!!!"
Tartan bought C&C.
Yep. Late 90s.
I’ll trade for C&c 30 mk 1
Never cared for c&c toe rail
It is, however, functional! Thanks for watching!
Absolutely horrid comfort ratio and capsize screening formula.
But absolutely fine for its intended use of coastal cruising and/or racing.
