Y'know, it's quite interesting, that you are a part of a studio, while many game devs on youtube are either solo or not a part of any studios anymore, perhaps you can make a video sharing some experiences while working in it?
the editing is just pure gold 👌 and the gradual reveal of the tiles is such a spot-on concept, it gives real exploring vibes, and takes the whole design to the next level 😉 🔝🔝
Oooo, I just had a great Idea: your a snowman, in the middle of summer. Each level you have a limited amount time before you melt. You have to traverse through the levels to get to a snow cloud. The levels show stages of the seasons starting from summer, and the end of the game is a winter level. Thought I’d put it down because I’d probably forget later.
The job you're doing is awesome! I'm also trying to make some devlogs in my channel, about my C++ 2D Game Engine, but your explanations are really complete and deep! Keep up that great job, I'm glad to learn more about the game!
i was about to join the jam, but now i saw it's a month long, and a. that's super scary, because a month of work on a game is supposed to be a lot better then ill ever be able to do... b. i don't have that much time, because i need to start working on something else im doing... well, good luck to everyone who's participating!
It's only a month long so people have enough time with their schedules. I generally only work on my game for a week for these game jams. haha Just because it's a month long doesn't mean you need to use the whole time. :D
From what Ive known a rogue-like is a game where you lose all progress after you die and a rogue-lite is one where you can get special upgrades characters etc and keep them even if you die
That's kind of true but kind of not haha. The most popular definition of a Roguelike is the "Berlin Interpretation". Rogue Basin has a great post on it.
Nothing kills scope creep faster then a deadline and best not to be late submitting to your own jam. Maybe you can unshelf Elf game for the Winter Jam. 👍
@@Goodgis this had me thinking, there aren't many other forms of media which can be defined as a genre and as the singlular. Example: Elvis Presley isn't a genre.. Perhaps you could make a genre defining game one day, you have talent, I'm not just saying that.
Yooo that's what I suddenly felt. Why would you randomly put an elf game on me?! In all seriousness...I love the art style with every game you work on and these examples are no exceptions. Wish I had known about this gamejam haha
Top down as a limitation seems like it limits creativity too much. A big creative decision like that should be in the hands of the jammer that way you get more variety. A reasonable limitation would be a color scheme or a certain amount of levels or even an endless game.
Digging the content, may have to join the game jam session as my first ever. Curious, have you considered Unity instead of Construct? If so wdy think, if not whats keeping you from trying?
Oh, I've used Unity before. I've also used Unreal, Game Maker, Godot, and Pico-8. I've just never finished any of my games in Unity. I'll have to make a video on it to share my thoughts.

I love your art for this game so much. It is so simple but so pleasing.
Thanks! :D Which style in particular the elf game or the rat roguelike?
@@Goodgis the rat roguelike. Both are very well done but the simplicity of the rat one is just so pleasing to the eye.

I live in Ohio too, and I disagree with your statement about the snow. The weather is always what is least convenient for us, not just snow.
You are correct! This is true.
Looks like a successful jam, although I'm not too sure if you really kept to the winter theme. Either way I enjoyed watching.
What, winter dungeon rats don't count? Haha

The video:
*Ace attourney reference*
Phoenix Wright should be a part of everyday life! haha
I have been playing it for a couple months on end. Though I guess i went right back to it the next day 😂
For the winter theme you could have made it related to the mouse king from the nutcracker
That's what I was going for. It's about mice and collecting cheese. I even had nutcracker music in the trailer! haha
Can't wait to play DD (Dewdrop Dynasty)
Lol, just did the last brackeys game jam just for the game to crash at the last hours. Build the game way before the last day guys!

What game engine do you use ?
GMS & Construct 3
The Nutcracker. In The Nutcracker the villain is the Rat King. I remember that from Barbie in the Nutcracker.

Game Maker Studio 2 for the Elf game and Construct 3 for the Roguelike.

I used Game Maker Studio 2 for the Elf Game, and Construct 3 for the Roguelike.
@@Goodgis which would you recommend for someone who wants to start making games?
@@georgedignum Probably Contruct 3, it's way easier and there is a free version of it.
I know how rats are like winter, rats only infest my house at winter, at summer they are sooo rare, that its like they're extinct.

what game engine was used to make this?
Elf Game was Game Maker Studio 2.0, and the Rat Roguelike was in Construct 3.

I just on hide objects as the player sees them.
