If this were a resin-based watch, I'd say it's worth $45. But, since it has gold plating, I would say it's maybe worth $100. Anything higher becomes paying for the label.

I completely agree about the pricing given the materials you have explained that the watch is actually made of. But I just can't get over how absolutely beautiful that thing looks on the wrist with those sub-registers.
With a better bracelet (same design if that's even possible), sapphire crystal, good lume, a working ambient temperature sensor somehow, better water resistance, just basically all premium materials but retaining the same exact form factor, and even priced like a luxury watch, this thing becomes the perfect luxury watch IMO, it's so pretty.

I'm not gonna like there are a two of those Star Wars watches I really like: the Trench Run and the Bespin. The Trench run because even without Star Wars it's retro cool, the Bespin because it is actually very subtle as far as references to the source material unlike the rest. Only a true fan would ever recognize it for what it is.

$150 USD at most and that’s because of the Citizen branding. The Citizen MSRP on their website is outrageous compared to what you will actually pay on a third party site. No way is a Promaster with the 8204 worth close to $500.

Oh Jody you bring back memories…
For my christening (Konfirmation) in 1984 I got a watch which I was allowed to choose by my own😂
My father went with me to a small jeweler in the neighbor town and they showed me a few watches - mostly Citizen and Seikos which where in the price range my father told them.
One of them was this Citizen.
We ended up with a Citizen AnaDigi, but not this one which was high up in my list…
It was a bit to expensive with as I hopefully remember right a bit over 500,- DM (German Marks)
So 250,-€/$ which is the equivalent without inflation…
Yes there are watches which offer more for less, but as a fossil in the line a price that doesn’t shifted that much, I really like it…
Will I get one? - probably not, but I do like to see that they are still around and available for nearly the same money as they where in the 80ties

I'm a deal hound and in the last month or so, I've bought a used Phoibos Apollo, a second used Orient Ray II, a used little Berny watch that is basically an SNK type watch with sapphire and a better movement and a modded Casio 1200 with a reverse/blackout display panel and all those were about $340 USD in total and I'm going to try to pick up a very gently used blue Tissot PRX quarts for $200 or $220 in the next couple day and that would come in just barely over that Citizen. That is absolute CRAZY TALK for a price!

I own a vintage version of this Citizen digi-ana, they’re unique fun looking timepieces but personally I think Citizen stuffed up royale here with this retro reissue, it would’ve been a hit if they were reasonably priced. The limited edition Star Wars variant is very pricey and one comes to expect crazy prices for limited editions these days, but the price they’re asking for the standard issue is completely bonkers.

I recently bought a Citizen Skyhawk Blue Angels secondhand for $250 in almost new condition (I see them go for over $600 in the mall) and feel exactly the same way. I always lusted over those watches as a kid because they look so cool and have so many features but could never afford it. Now that I have one I'm heavily disappointed. I guess my watch tastes are too refined and cultured now. It has the knurling for the screw down pushers and crown but it's fake and the watch as a whole is way too complicated to operate. Had to watch almost a 30 minute video just to set the time and learn how to use it. Even the clasp reminds me of the one on the $20 Rolex homage (Tevise T801). Also for a $600 watch the crystal really should be sapphire.

I worked for a Citizen boutique for a short time, and it was very clear to me during that time that they don't have a clear sense of direction, as far as where they want to position their brand and the value proposition thereof. Are they rugged and reliable, a la Eco Drive? Are they fashion forward, a la new Bulova releases? Are they trying to move upmarket with their Series 8, The Citizen, 0100, etc.? Are they playing into retro reissues with the Devil's Diver?
There's nothing wrong with doing a little of all of these, per se, but I think if they had a better finger to the pulse of what drives watch people and what they want, they could formulate a clearer direction for each brand they own. But we're just cogs in a wheel and they're going to do whatever they want. 🤷‍♂️

If Casio can charge $100 for a plastic watch, I think Citizen can charge for the unique feature set like
a 1/1000 second stop watch which measures down to milliseconds and is full stainless steel. Even high end casios don't have it. This is a JDM watch and can be found for 200$ in JP websites which is absolutely reasonable.

I think the issue here is catch 22, the cost of the watch is so high because they no longer sell enough of them to provide economies of scale for the cost to manufacture all the parts, so this keeps the price high, but because the price is high people won't buy it. To me Citizen have 2 choices, bite the bullet and run at a loss for a short while to try and drive the numbers up or just kill it, my thoughts are the latter, and I'm a bit of a Citizen fan boy or at least I don't understand the hate towards a brand who are innovative, environmentally conscious (eco drive, recyclablility etc) and make some nice watches, with quality control way better than the watch collectors beloved Seiko.

I had a sports version of that watch,it had slight bulges around the buttons and was 100m waterproof. That was over 30 years ago and it cost around £100 but I would never pay more than that for it.

It should be priced about the same as a Casio databank at around £80. It's a shame the temperature sensor isn't useful either. I'd save my money and buy something else.

For those who may not know, Armitron make affordable stainless steel retro digital and ana-digital watches if you're look for an alternative to the more popular resin Casios.

Wow! That's really not so cheap. You could buy an Armitron Griffy in each available dial and case variant.👍
That said; would I buy one of these Citizen thingies (or another all steel Casio A1000 at ten times the price of a similarly usable F91w but with a display light that lights properly)? Of course I would, Both!
I'm 58 and a "sensible" 😳 lass who views every watch purchase as a better way to get my kicks than sipping caffeine free diet Pepsi in a night club or adding another classic boombox or Steiff (sp?) animal to the other collections.😊

As someone who owns this model watch, another moan and niggle I can add is that it is a hassle to set/adjust the time on the A1 (top left) dial. To set the time you have to hold down one of the buttons to move the minute/hour hands. The hands only adjust forwards and not backwards, so if you miss and set the hands a bit too ahead of the actual time, you have to start all over again. Another beef with adjusting the A1 dial time is that it doesn't hack; the minute hand will still progress on its own in increments every 20 seconds while you are trying to set the time. That makes it frustrating if you're trying to set the A1 time to precisely match the digital time. 🤬 Otherwise, I still love this watch. 😂😂

Might be trouble for you but you're still a cool kid wearing one. Lol. If precision is important look to a Tissot Chronometer quartz or automatic. I'm a slave to the look.

Man I love that shirt and the color but, it should be Kong with the choppers from Skull Island xD Oh, and on topic. I bought a Citizen before from a local retail store with probably 3 or 4 coupons that all stacked and I thought I definitely gamed the system. Even with all that it was still cheaper on Joma by $15. I was early in (serious) watch collecting and that's how I learned about Joma LOL. I couldn't imagine how many people off the street just purchased it at the "msrp" without thinking.

I have plenty of those watches! I LOVE THEM😊 Citizen is utilizing same module in several variants. I buy them, repair them, sel them and collect them too. I would NEVER pay 500 for this type of watch! To answer your questions regarding the price. They are wort about 100-150,£ exceptions apply.

I've just paid £150 for a Star Wars Trench Run version... Yes, £150 for a watch that I didn't need, one with dials/displays so small that my 53 year old eyes can't even read... Jody, it's your fault! ;)
However, 13 year old me (who lives inside my head) loves it :D

I wouldn’t pay more than 65 USD. If you want the Stars Wars livery, their analog ecodrives are a much better value. My wife has Model: EM0808-51W) and my daughter has EW2251, both lovely watches and a good deal for each one.

I keep looking at this one myself but then realize it's just a expensive novelty that will never get worn. I like the starwars ones but again way too much money for them. Also that other relic you showed at the start. Did you see the deal on that one the other day at starbuys? So cheap compared to its asking price it made me want to buy it just for being so cheap but it's really one of the few divers watches that really is only good for people that dive because styling wise it's not really something one would wear outside of swimming/diving.

This is a really unique piece and it's noticeably better built than $100-200 Casios. The other watches you listed are arguably objectively better but they also all look like a million other watches and are totally forgettable, whereas pretty much nothing else looks like this Citizen. $300-400 AUD seems very fair to me.
