Due to the upcoming Kickstarter, the Kolors will not be available via the website for a while but will be available through the Kickstarter!
Hi guys! Something new again today! I want to start trying products from different hobby companies so I can help you guys choose the best products for your different wargaming or miniature painting projects! Many army painters steer away from using artist paints, or mixing paints as they are used to having a different pot for every colour and want to get through projects as fast as possible. I want to try see if I can persuade you to try something new with these Kimera Kolors and show you that there's no need to be intimidated!
When Kimera head about my series on trying out paint ranges from companies other than Games Workshop, they very kindly sent me a box of their high quality pure pigments base colours box set, which you can get yourself through the link below!
    www.pegasoworl...
Even if you don't wish to purchase the full set, I still recommend trying out the white and black paint, which you can buy here!
    www.pegasoworl...
I do not receive anything through these links, and was not paid to make this video other than receiving the product for free, I am recommending trying them purely based on my own review!
Kimera are also launching a truly beautiful range of models through a Kickstarter that will be starting April 20th, through until May 8th. Click the link below to get a sneak peek of the models and make sure you will be notified when the Kickstarter goes live as you won't want to miss out!

Not sure if you are looking for any advice/criticism but I’d like to be honest because I think your channel has a lot of potential. The music was pretty overbearing. I also found it a bit distracting when you were talking. I’d personally recommend lowering the volume and using it a bit more sparingly. Definitely usable for the average painter, even if you're not into mixing. Just buy the individual colours you need/want to supplement your other brand paints. Will be nice when the recent expansion set 1 colours are released for individual sale...
Speaking of other brands to supplement with. I feel like Monument Hobbies Pro Acryl goes quite nicely with Kimera, and there's a lot more pre-mixed colours for people who don't want to mix their own. Definitely worth checking them out if you can get your hands on them.

Kimera has been on my list to purchase for a long time. It is hard to find stock. As soon as they are released in the US they sell out. When you paint the Kimera minis I would love to see you paint it with only their paints. It would be interesting to see what you learn during the process. Great video!

I got a pack off someone in January and I've been a bit scared of using them "incorrectly". Good points in the video Andy about their covering power and the reliable mixes of single pigment paints. Also on how it can be scary to try these "artist" paints. But at the end of the day, they can be used as you like - the matt finish is as good for a basecoat as it is for glazing or highlighting! Really inspiring to see you step towards an artist mindset of seeing them as tools in a toolbox.

    Nice vid!
I know you mentioned it in passing in the end, but it's worth pointing out that Kimera are heavy body acrylics, so using them without a wet palette is, let's say annoying^^
I've only bought/used a few of their colours so far (dip my toe in, so to say^^), and from those few, I'm very impressed. I don't think I'd use them for a complete army (since mixing a particular hue for 200+ models will be annoying), but for individual pieces, h*ll ye!
As for the music, can't say that I found it especially annoying. There are videos out there that are much much more annoying, where I actually have to turn the sound off.
Will look forward to more from this series and more on your journey with Kimera. Can't wait to see what you'll think about Pro Acryl.

That explains why citadel paints stagnates so much. If they don't even let you guys discuss or talk about trying other paints then they're never going to get better at actually making paint or understand that they have a problem. They're just going to keep putting out the same things over and over and over, I have been wondering for a very long time almost nobody prefers the pots yet they keep putting them out this all makes sense they're not actually open to criticism and fixing the problem

    • @MediocreHobbies

If I’m working in a shop, it’s totally normal not to recommend rival products.
If the paints were really that bad, people wouldn’t buy them. High end golden demon painters wouldn’t use them in their projects(obviously they use a wide range but they do still include them) Totally agree about the pots though but so many companies have dropped bottles that waste more paint too.

I’ve been using Kimera for about 6 months now mainly on character figures from Marvel Crisis Protocol.
Absolutely fantastic paints, very Matt finish on them with a lovely coverage.
I find blending with them with the use of a pallet very easy to do.
I don’t think I can go back to another manufacturer, unless it’s for batch painting for an army.
    Highly recommended.
By the way,the mixing is fun!
They supply booklets which gives you colour charts to help with the mixing process.
I have not failed to mix up the colour I’ve required over many figures.

Very average painter here, been painting for years on and off, used to have loads and loads of paint pots and extensive cramps and frustration when i needed half an hour to shake or trying to reconstitute dried up paints. Gave Kimera a shot and got blown away by their quality. After a couple of months i sold all my still usable old pots. With the money I made, I bought a cheap vortex mixer (bye bye cramps XD) and better brushes. I now learnt to mix whatever colour i want and enjoy the process of painting so much more than before.

I liked this video. I have recently been listening to painters talk about mixing and while we try it in small ways with GW paints, I had never really thought about how pure the colours were. Having that guide is really cool because it would give me to chance to experiment. If I want to go lighter than their example then I can. It would be cool to see a full mini as well and your thought process about what to mix etc.
The shield initial looked very simple, but I think I confused that with the pureness of the colour, because in the end it looked very clean, (a good thing) that is a basis for other products like shades. There was something unrestrictive about the end result. With GW paints some colours are brilliant, but I feel these limit colours unlock your decisions with mixing.
Looking forward to the others and I think I see these in a different light.

Citadel paints have ended up being more expensive than the heavy body acrylics by golden which are some of the most professional paints out there while being nowhere nearly as good and with the extra negative of having stupid pots that make the paint dry of spill the paint. Anyone still buying citadel paints today is being very stupid.

That may be a slightly harsh view. Remember there isn’t so no at guides out there showing people these amazing paints. @@MediocreHobbies More as a general Idea, as I think, Kimera is more sth for Fantasy than SciFi, but it's completely up to you. I'm about to start a (new) drukhari and/or gsc force and very interested in alternative painting shemes a la "look what I made with these guys" style. And as you said, you were leaving the tracks of gw paint style, you might come up with sth cool and outstanding, to paint my drukhari (as I really dont like their lackluster&boring default paint shemes). :)

I wonder how they get "Magenta" using only one pigment. Magenta is not actually a colour, but the average of two colours (red and blue) and no green. The average should equal Green, but the green receptors in your eyes aren't being triggered, so your brain creates a new colour to compensate. This colour is magenta.
Do they explain how they accomplish this? Or is it just pink?
EDIT; to clarify, what this means is, in order to get Magenta, you need equal amounts of red and blue pigment to trick your eyes into seeing magenta.

That’s a very good question. And no I honestly have no idea how they pulled it off. seams above my pay grade lol. If you find out pleas let me know.

Their website says they use Quinacridone as the pigment for the Magenta.
