Checking out if Paladins is worth your time in 2024! It's been about nine months since I last played Paladins, so I wanted to see what's new in the game and if it's still fun playing in 2024. Let's play!
Paladins: Champions of the Realm is a 2018 free-to-play online hero shooter video game by Hi-Rez. The game was developed by Evil Mojo, an internal studio of Hi-Rez and was released on May 8, 2018 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, followed by a Nintendo Switch version released on June 12, 2018.
Paladins is a team-based first-person shooter that focuses on two groups of five players each, who compete for combat-based goals. The game is set in colorful sci-fi fantasy maps, where each player chooses a champion that cannot be repeated in the same team and cannot be changed in the match. Each champion has their own weapons, skills and fighting style; in addition, they can be enhanced and personalized from a card and skin system. The interface of each player is very profitable and customizable, with avatars and customizable borders to symbolize the player's profile; titles when reaching mastery level 30 with a champion, among others.
Paladins was initially announced in 2012 as Global Agenda 2 and was scheduled to be released in mid-2013. The game was officially announced for the first time as Paladins in early August 2015.The Paladins closed beta started on November 17, 2015. In the Open Beta, the game appeared on September 16, 2016 in the Steam Early Access program.

I know paladins since 2018 and it's 2024 and now I'm 18, I love the game and how it is until I heard it stopped attending world championships due to the amount of bugs, I would love if the game got an overhaul of bug fixes and improvements, basically it would make me happy to see the game climbing into popularity like it was a few years back in 2017

OG Paladins player here. Great video dude. I play paladins nearly every day. I luv this game so much. For some reason, even if i loose, i have a bunch of fun with paladins. This is the game, where i and my homies chill together having a fun time. This is also the only game i know where i sometimes even get a nice "GG" from the enemy team if we won. My advice: dont take this game seriously. Its unspeakable amount of fun if you play it for a fun time.
I would say for like half a year now EvilMojo made overall great improvements to the game. Performance and Gameplay vise for sure. Balancing is ok, or better sayd: it never was this good xD.
I really love to see new ppl start playing paladins or old ppl starting to play again, because i really hope more ppl learn to appreciate the fun time this game can offer.

100% agree. I took the game way too seriously and rage quit so many times until i deleted it. If I play just for fun it's way more enjoyable

new Paladins player here. I totally agree with you on this, even if I lose a game I still have this feeling of "damn that was fun." The community is also super chill too which is rare for a team based online multiplayer game.

Another OG players here. Paladins was one of my first online shooters and it has a special place in my heart. Its been 8 years that I first laid my hands on it and Ruckus was my 1st hero. Its feels good to see many content creators trying out this old gem

I definitely like paladins more than overwatch, but god I wish we had pings. Pings are such a needed feature in online team-based games.

definitely worth the time. If you're looking for something that is fun casually but can also be taken pretty seriously, paladins provides a great mix. The loadouts, champions, and talent system keep the game fresh WAY longer than other hero shooters

There is not a single causal player in the game. Everyone tries way too hard. Its just either they’re a good tryhard or a tryhard that’s wasting their time.
Returned to pc from beta. Love the game. Game's fun and way better than it was on switch.

One little note, the game got shutdown on switch about half a year ago with the 5th anniversary launch due to its instability and crashing issues

Mainly because of low funding they can't put money into anything or else they go bankrupt
I've played paladins since furia released there have been some ups and downs but i can tell you one thing paladins is in a good place right now. when wild hoard came out VII's mag dump was really strong because it could 1 shot squishes from a pretty safe range, they came out with a hotfix fixing the broken ness of VII and solving some previously toxic playstyles like unkillable heroism lex (having cc immunity and 90% damage reduction while sliding) and heads or tails ult spam saati, they also did some changes to strix and skye they buffed strix's movement speed and reverted a previous damage nerf from skye because of trigger scent not being as strong as people thought it would be
overall i think the wild hoard update was amazing balance wise (exept mag dump VII madness) and i really like the new item store and having 9 loadout slots!
also the current downfall of overwatch is probably contributing to the rise in paladins players

I used to play overwatch for many years, but I'm absolutely not satisfied with a lot of the devs' decisions.
So me and a bunch of friends started to play paladins a few days ago and we're having the fun of our life with it. :)
This was my first ever FPS game on nintendo switch on 2021. I learned how to grind for like everyday but its so sad the devs pulled off the switch version. My main games are Apex, COD, OW etc but Paladins holds a special place in my heart.

@@se7en910 Then I could say the same for you, then say that I play Warframe, Morrowind, Oblivion, Paladins, LoL, Dark and Darker, Deducto, Lies of P, Dark Souls, Deep Rock Galactic, etc. No gaming library is tragic. Everyone plays what they enjoy, and it's perfectly fine, wether it is Gta, Minecraft, or the competitive mode of Hello Kitty. It doesn't matter as long as you enjoy.
I loved playing paladins in the past, I started playing it again after getting being burnout playing overwatch for 3 months, and God, the game holds up SO well, it doesn't have as much bullshit as overwatch, the game just feels so right, it felt refreshing and I'm kinda sad overwatch tried to copy paladins with it's passives and format, it doesn't work for overwatch, but it fits like a glove for paladins

i played in 2017 maybe 2018 and i loved the game but havent touched it since i now want to try and play it to recover some old memorys

Just got back on paladins last night and it is quite different than what it was about 1-2 years ago when I last played with a full squad. We did play sweaty lobbies almost every game but when I got back on it was an actual casual game or 2. The builds have changed a bit but nothing super crazy. I’m a khan and jenos main and the builds were noticeable on them compared to what I used to run. Did look at some meta builds for them and they were fun but not as fun as the builds back then. And there are so many new passives to buy when in game I haven’t taken the dive into them other than chronos and increased healing from others I forget the name. Good game for killing time for sure.

Honestly I love paladins..i only stopped playing because they stopped supporting switch but now that I got a series s im planning on getting back into the game now so its good to see the game is still fun

Gameplay on switch got discontinued. (So now the devs can use more high memory requiring stuff on the game like putting back removed details in certain maps and a lot of other stuff
Yes, it's good for the game as you describe it, but I can understand if some Switch users disagree.
Hey bro W video. Most of the time, I solo queue, so its pretty hard to find teammates that will pick certain classes to even out a team (lex insta lockers are so annoying!). I have 30,000 coins, so based on your experience, what champion do you think I should buy so I can carry all of these bot teammates?
Hi, and thanks for your comment! I guess there's two ways of carry a team(!), or maybe both at once; playing well as a healer is one way of increasing the possibilities for your team to do better. On the other hand, if you can do a lot of damage, for example as a flank or tank, then that might be worth it as well. I started to play with Grover when it comes to healer, and was still able to do decent dmg as well. I also have a favourite when it comes to Ying, as seen in the video. I seldom play as a flank champion, so I don't really have a good thought or tip there. But Vora and Evie, seems to be popular choices. Some good tanks to look into, especially if you haven't played a lot as a tank could be Khan, Atlas, Azaan, Barik, Fernando. Hope you'll find a good Champion that works well for you :)

the card/build systems are what make paladins so much better than overwatch for me because in overwatch every single like reinhardt is the same there is no difference no variation but in paladins you could play any character in a multitude of different ways with cards and then also slightly tweak stuff with items in game as well as i dont really like the whole counter picking part of overwatch because if i feel like playing a character i want to play that character i dont want to be forced to change because someone else changed to a character that counters me

Last time I played I was disappointed that they removed the 3rd person view. I thought that was so cool that you could play 3rd person and switch to 1st person and vice versa. It was cool to be able to actually see your skins on your character as you played. I really hope they bring that back. I don’t understand the reason for removing that.

Not sure why they decided to do that...But it is a thing that has been mentioned and discussed in other shooters having the possibility to both play the game in either 1st or 3rd person. It might create an unbalance since you can peak around corners while playing in 3rd person, giving the player playing in 3rd person an advantage over players playing in 1st person (disadvantage).

It is obvious why they did it. First person benefits people with wider monitors, or bigger resolutions, whereas people playing in 4:3 are at a disadvantage. Third person had the same problems, but even more absurd. Playing in 16:10 or even 21:9 gives you a huge advantage because there is more information on your screen. Take a look at CS. Everyone that plays at 21:9 is able to see more. However, stretched resolution makes heads and body parts bigger, therefore making it easier to aim. With third person, playing in 21:9 not only allows you to see more in front of you, but also around you. That's why they took it off. But I get that they should bring it back and at least make separate queues or something like that.
@@nikolaip2 Before you could switch between the 2 views at any time. I did that all the time. There was literally no reason to remove it. You weren’t locked in the 3rd person view once you switched to it. People had a choice. They removed it cuz they didn’t like how people were playing the game. That’s how a lot of these live service games work. If they don’t like how people are playing they’ll change things in the game to force people to play how they want people to play. You can continue to argue all you want. Doesn’t change the facts.

UK player here playing on the paladins EU servers and I seem to get a lot of laggy matches which are really annoying.
Sorry to hear that! Hard to tell why, sometimes it's a combination of things. I haven't really experienced that although I only have a "medium strong" PC rig, but at the same time, I do have very good internet.
@@40splishsplash seems to be like it everywhere I've lived and with 2 different pcs, one that's quite honky, I play drogoz a lot so it's really noticeable, still I soldier on
2 years ago when i was still in the game ranked was very bad i was platinum close to diamond and i did get in matches with GM. :))) Also did they bring back the old payload?
Thanks for your feedback! This is what Hi-Rez wrote when it comes to releasing season 6 (it's currently season 7): "For all weekdays in which a weekend LTM is not active, from 8am Monday to Friday at midnight (EST), Payload will be active in the LTM slot instead."
Paladins is the most fun ive had in a hero shooter. I hope its still got some life left in it and its not too late.

No. I installed the game and had bad matchmaking with AI bots in SEA server. Went on research and they said Sea servers are dead and devs only care about NA and EU servers.
Sorry to hear that. Yes, unfortunately is seems as if SEA servers are "behind" EU and NA servers. I can understand your frustration.

I believe it might be a combination of both, since I've heard people saying that they've come over from OW2, trying out Paladins instead. At the same time, Hi Rez has been putting work into their game. Has it fixed all the problems? No, but it seems as if some updates and content has attracted players to go back and play again.
At this point, this is better than Overwatch.

The most fun I ever had was when VII was super broken in the beginning. Cronos 3 with the right loadout and you can just keep pressing buttons non stop.

I used to play paladins and then i ttied it again and it was the most amount of fun I had and it was a good time.

Never played Smite, but I can imagine it's still holding a large player base.
Game shuts down without even a warning or error code. Playing it on xbox series x, cant find a solution. Completely unplayble now. I wonder if you guys have the same problem on PC. Some say that on PC, there is no issue. I love paladins but cant play

I had played paladins back in 2017 and it was really cool, nothing to envy to overwtach, it was that simple that didn't have any problem or issue. However, a massive number of new carachters and maps made it less simple and I just left aside and started playing fortnite hahahahah.

It reason paladins has lived cause the devs care. Just cause a game is polished and graphics are good don't mean nothing. Look how Pokemon and fortnite look not 4k overwatch 2 graphics and they doing just fine

No. It's not worth it I play the game when it was just a beta and Cassie use bow instead frickin crossbow. A black screen bug when you finished a game still there.... Wtf man this bug still here from day one to now. Matchmaking is awful, Jpn, Sea, and Aus server is freaking graveyard with nobody to play and when you finally found a match it'll just boot you out since on of the player decided to left. You can play some match albeit non ranked since apparently it took me 1hour or more to found one ranked match on NA or Eu server. Just play other game other than this we got Deadlock, OW2, TF2, and Marvel.

Or, as his far more likely, all the people angry at matchmaking and overwatch two have been trying out paladins are going back to paladins because of watch two is just fucked right now that’s far more likely than any changes

Good question! AEven though I haven't played Genshin Impact, there seems to be quite some differences between the two when it comes to style and also genre wise.

@@40splishsplash I'm talking about a match where I can play what I was thinking to, without trowing my team that picked whatever they wanted and I'm kinda forced to fill instead, or playing against crazy comps like 2 supports and 2 tanks or 5 stacks against a solo q. Not having any balanced game mode, ranked being just a joke of a casual wanna be, with just ban phase that takes forever and no further class rules or high light, is almost as classes don't mean anything and doesn't matter what you pick.
@@Cryptisss Ok, thanks for your answer. I understand what you mean. I guess it's a combo of how the game is actually structured, but also how players choose to play their classes, when it comes to team play and team build.

@@40splishsplash too many bugs, square hitboxes, outdated graphics, absolutely trash mechanical and champion balance, dead servers, bad ranking system and matchmaking (either low ranks play with high ranks in the same lobbies or you face the same enemies every match), etc. etc.

@@40splishsplash can I add? I got banned first for 7 days then 14 days because I reported tons of people. Why I did that? Am I a toxic kid that enrages? No, I'm just a relaxing man that loves to play but hate people in the su subsequent reasons:
1) toxic people. Reporting them is a must for me. As it should, right?
2) feeders. (people that purposely spawn and die in a span of 1 minute, even seconds. [mainly in ranked, would be casual I wouldn't care, but ranked is a serious game mode)
3) harassment. People that just go in ranked and instantly lock without saying anything and ruining the trades and the squad energy.
4) afk. Afk. Afk. Afk. 4v5,3v5,2v5. Not funny.
5) balances are horrible and nonsense
6)matchmaking is terrible, meeting grandmasters in casual is pretty funny isn't it? Yeah......

Game is bad. I played alpha stage to release. You will get spawn trapped and killed inside your base. No balance
Thanks for your feedback! I don't believe Paladins is a bad game per say. A lot of things has also changed since launch. However, there's always room for improvements.
But when's the last time u played the game. Killed inside ur spawn is impossible once u leave the barrier that's on u if u die

My sensitivity was to high when recording the video. I uninstalled Logitech G HUB for some reason, so my DPI was totally wrong (I usually use 800 DPI). That is fixed now.

@@40splishsplash I played this past week after 3 years and the game still continued to drop. SEA server doesnt work. Took them 1.5 weeks to bring it back to normal.

Answer is no.... Horible matchmaking the worst ive seen gms playing with silver players or gold and thats just ranked. Lets not talk about casuals as thats just you either bully the other team or youre the one being bullied. Loads of bugs some of them like the omen bug right now are gamebreaking. Excesive amount of lgbt players and toxic comunity like idk what do you expect me to do if i pick a level 0 character..... yet everyone will flame the shit out of you in casuals. most of the current players are flankers and they instalock characters the moment lobby loads you will constantly find yourself in situation where 3-4 people have locked flankers or dmg at the start and youre thinking do i play healer or a tank for the 50th today. Players will just afk if you dont heal them. Then theres the balance issues if you come from league and had problems with balance there you have no idea what true balance problems look like until you play this game. The game is one big garbage bin when you play it it feels like playing some abandonware sadly theres not many games like this anymore so if you have freinds and want to have some fun this is probably the game to go for........ As playing it alone sometimes feels like smashing your head against a concrete wall. I am not making anything up ive been playing this game for about 6 years now constantly with brakes and the game is starting to smell rotten more and more.

And even with all of the flaws the game is still incredible to play with friends. Maby we will try playing some Smite....

Yes, competition is always good, and I haven't really found another game similar to Paladins (not thinking about Overwatch now), that "compete" in the same space and genre. Maybe I've missed out on a game or two...Interesting that you're mentioning Smite, since it is a game that I wanted to try out, but for unknown reasons it has never happened (yet).
