Does 100x the money mean 100x the car? We found out by testing the new Civic Type R against a $500 beater.

It would be sick to see you guys upgrade that EG enough to compete with or even beat the new Type R.
"Built vs Bought" could be the title I guess.

I’m hoping for that too.
This would be a great idea ngl. Hope they do this

Nolan needs his own car journalism segment. Reviewing cars is such a strong suit for him!!
Not sure what you’re smoking. This is the absolute worst video I’ve seen them air. The comparison is idiotic, and the commentary is useless. He legit said “to be honest, it’s honestly…” complained about no Bluetooth in an old Honda (cuz that’s what’s important) and had tech talk that wouldn’t impress a 4yo girl in a Barbie car.
@@ghettosled1976 Omg you just reminded me of this time that I went to space camp a while ago. About a year ago, I was invited to attend a "space camp" at NASA. It was extremely interesting, despite being very secure. We had to give proper identification, give our fingerprints, and sign 6 consents forms, but after all that preparation, we were finally allowed to enter. I met astronauts and many astrophysicists. They described how it felt to be in space, and I saw a prototype of the Mars rover. However, the attraction that caught my eye the most was a live feed that came from a camera on the international space station. I watched it for hours, and even with a view of the entire world, I still couldn't find who the fucked asked

I would love to see Zach and/or Nolan working on this EG on the next season of money pit!
They work pretty damn good together already so they should both host it. It would be awesome.
Was gonna say the same exact thing. Nolan can make Jobe do all the work while he reaps the rewards 🤣🤣 perfect for another season of money pit
I am all for this!! K20Turbo Moneypit civic!!
I would dieeeee for this
If they do that, then they better bring back the type r for a rematch!
We’re due for a new money pit season! I wanna see more of the EG!
Money pit on a 1995! :D
Money Pit drag build !?!?!? Im in
i was thinking the exact same thing
I was hoping for that motorcycle they got to be the next money pit but I guess not
yes id love to see a k24 build in it or something even crazier
Great video! Would love to see a money pit style series of Nolan modding the EG then comparing it to the other cars of donut with price and daily driving in mind!! Keep it up Nolan:)
THIS ^^^^^
nice recommendation, it looks like they did it
Built Vs. Bought needs to happen!
I was going to say. Let's see what the EG can do after $50k in upgrades.
I can sense an opportunity for the next season of moneypit!
Took the words right out of my mouth
Mine too!!
It isn’t worth 44k stock but the 50k adds a lot of premium features. If you care about brand (even tho Honda has a great image) then ofcourse you are going to say that but I just don’t know how you can call these machines money pits. Going by that logic they are all money pits

That EG would be great for a new budget-oriented season of Money Pit!
THIS! I'd love to see this get the full treatment to bring it to period correct Type R spec.
No it wouldn't
YESSS MONEY PIT CIVIC
This would be a perfect car for the cheapest turbo setup. A 500$ ebay kit, obd1 conversion and chipped ecu along with some grippier tires would cost next to nothing and transform that car.
We all want to see the eg getting the zach jobe experience
More like $15,000 honda civic vs $50,000 honda civic
The next comparison should be an old Type R vs a new base model Civic. I think that would actually be interesting but I understand its unlikely to happen. Thanks for the video!
I'd definitely be in for a built vs bought series. There's so many options you can go with to buy an old version of a new car, build it and compare prices of the new car. Hell you're already most of the way there with the Money Pit Miata.
This is a great idea!
Omg this sounds amazing. A built foxbody vs a new mustang.
@@largesizejellyfish3014 Yep. Cheapest older version of any car built up vs factory-fresh brand new version of that car. There are so many options. Catfish Camaro, C4 corvette, Nissan 300z, BMW E30, Volkswagen Golf...really good content here.
Yeah this would be goodb
Would love a series on building the $500 civic until it's competitive with the new Type R and seeing what the total cost is.
Love this idea
I second this 👍
it would be great!
You have another vote from me!
That would require a B or K swap. But yeah it would be fun to watch.
Would love to see this as the new money pit!!!
I think a series on doing a retomod to the eg and its cost effectiveness to the cost of a new type R would be amazing. You could get into all the engine swaps and suspension set ups. Also you can get into what it would take to modernize the interior to Bluetooth and digital. Or a High vs Low would be fun to see as well with the EG
I do want to see a restoration series on that civic. Either to complete stock or subtly upgraded 😏 loads of content there, especially around learning upholstery and painting etc.

You bought that civic eg for $500? Lies!
That’s what I thought 😂 You can tell by off of the people asking why they have not kept up with civic prices. yeah its a nearly 30 year old sh*t box but they are valuable. You CANNOT find a running eg for that price do your research before arguing with every one who is saying that there is no way they got it that cheap. Evidently 5.4k people agree with us so please stop arguing.
Yea fr absolutely not
Right😂
I'll buy it from u for $550. Lol
I got an ej8 for less a couple months ago. But for the condition of that eg 500 is a steal
I would love to see you guys upgrade the EG! I had one and hands down still one of my favorites.
An episode/series turning the EG into a 24 Hours of Lemons car would be fantastic, and it's obviously what that car wants too!
Agreed, I'd love to see this car in a Money Pit x Lemons series.
things already 500$ and needs a new seat and suspension, would be running bonus laps all day
That EG will become a 9 sec.car……we all know it will be fast if they want it to be.
I would LOVE to see another series similar to 'Money Pit' or heck even a season two! I feel as if the Miata and the EG hatch both have ton of parts easily accessible, and have a long history, and a large following.
This would be season 3. The rally BMW was season 2.
Actually it would be season 4. The bike that last 1 or 2 episodes was season 3
It'd be cool to see a Money pit show car EG or OEM+ EG Moeny pit
Do it up right. You need a Honda advisor/tech if building this hatch... ✋
Would be awesome to see what it takes to beat the time of the type-R.
I'd love to see a Nolan series on upgrading and tuning that little EG, it's so adorable yet fun to toss around! Definitely start with suspension. That body roll will make you upset and unhappy pretty quick.
Give the people what they want!
Yes, please to more of this EG! My first Civic, and the first car I ever bought, was a '95 EX Coupe. It was the same color as the one in this video (paradise blue green pearl). I didn't know the CX was only 70 HP. The EX was fun with an additional 55 or so hrsprs! Dreamt of swapping out the D16Z6 with a B18 of some sort, but the car was unfortunately totaled over eight years ago.
Love the EG, i would like to see more videos on the EG. Some better tires and suspension would make a big difference, probably a better engine too.
New season of Money Pit on the $500 civic would be dope!
Nolan is seriously a great driver. Awesome to see Donut working with Honda. Congratulations to all involved.
Props to nolan
Nolan sounded a little under the weather but with that helmet on he sounded like Bane test driving 🤣🤣
i love to see the Eg hatch with the nice touch of donut and i can see Nolan gonna be really go nuts with that
It would be a lot of fun to see a series where you examine how much money and work you have to invest in the EG to outperform the new Type R on track, in comfort and style.
Please please make this, it would work for so many models too. Old 3 series vs M3 please.
This idea could be a whole new series, like how much does it cost to make the legacy car/truck as good as the modern version. Maybe call it old school vs new school

@@The_Room_Of_Arachnids Report
If you swap the engine in the EG for something proper, and do all the supporting mods that you've mentioned I really wouldn't be surprised if it got faster than the new Type R on the track due to the massive weight difference, and potentially lower center of gravity on the EG.
Just swapping in a D16z6 would drop that laptime significantly, and they're nowhere near the best engine that you could pick for it.
just put a 2jz
B16 swap lets goooo
A series for the civic like they did for the miata would be sick🔥🔥🔥
More EG Civic! Would be great to see it built to take on the new Type R.
I'd love to see more with the EG. I had around 8 civics(not at once lol) years ago and loved them. They're very fun and easy/cheap to modify. I have a friend that put an older type r engine into a hatch just like yours and made it into a rac car. Awesome comparison too. I'm digging the new civics.
More with the EG! Yes! Do a little build where you put like 5-10k(or more) into that lil thing and then do a rematch. Guaranteed that after doing some work Nolan picks that EG. Can't help but fall in love with the car you work on.
400,000 miles. Someone loved that engine. Regular oil changes, tune ups, rebuilds. Such a good car if you keep it up
Would love to see a series doing something with that old '95!
Would be great to compare apples to apples. So stock civic vs. stock civic. 1990's Type R vs. new Type R. I think the numbers would be much closer and the feel of the cars would be quite different. 🙂
Great segment. We had so many EG/EF's growing up. Cheap, fun and fast. You could also put almost any Honda/Accord engine into it.
Exactly. The Honda/import scene is the modern day muscle car generation.
I agree! It should of been a EG vs a newer Civic hatch not a type r. It's really unfair tbh.
@@robwaters8848 Exactly. The cars 'felt' fast, relatively and were reliable. We still drove them to school everyday. lol. And sipped fuel unless you reved them to 8k with a very short final gear on the highway. lol.
@@willaquino6939 It's all tongue and cheek, or its all for fun. BUT a true comparison would be interesting. Almost any new stock civic already out competes a performance model from the past. But the most important factor with these old EF, EG, EK chassis was weight and double wish bone suspension. The combination of those two made these cars go carts. Ditch the 14" 175 tires and slap on some 15" 225's and it was all you needed.... plus a bucket seat... plus brakes... plus some nice tires.... learned a lot on this platform.
A project for that EG would be lovely

I would love to see a series featuring the EG as a consumer friendly entry track car. Feature what upgrades you would say would be the most impactful and keep everything budget friendly. not low-car standard, but real-world equivalent.
Nolan and James are competing for goofiest taste in cars 😂
Absolutely should do a built vs. bought. I know the HiLow thing didn't work with the hand grenade Subies, but 1 car to modify and 1 budget vs. the stock new type R would make for great content!!

That's like finding a super basic 2023 civic in 25yrs That's all beat up and compare it to a 2048 civic type r
Great video, i would love to see a similar video using comparable models of the years though. The EG for example would probably have to be the SiR as there was never a type-R, but the true head to head would be the "original" R, the EK CTR!
love how the eg is so used that the wipers are now sentient
W to Nolan for pulling through at the end, he’s a trooper fr 😂

yall should do a series of how much money do you have to put in to the 1995 civic to make it as good as the new type R
As others have mentioned - I'd like to see how much it would take to be competitive with the new R's 1:38 lap time. I bet it isn't $49500!
Although I don't think one can buy this for 500
Have you ever seen one of those old Civics crash? They're like a can of coke. My friend had a 4 door ages ago, GSR B18 in it and he did a track day and the car split in half when he crashed it.
You can get it to match lap times pretty cheaply most likely, but it will still be a crusty old shitbox vs a modern, comfortable, safe car.
@@Jakalwarrior Those modded 80s and 90s civics are fast but once you crash your seeing heavens gates 😭
Can’t wait for the EG to be a wicked project car for you guys!
If you took HALF the price of the Civic Type R, and invested it into an EG or EK, you could have a car that is literally better in almost every way than the new Civic Type R. You could buy top of the line suspension and drivetrain components(AWD), make well over 500whp, and also choose to make the car comfortable on top of it too if you wanted. Like me, I had my entire dc5 professionally sound-deadened and have electric AC and PS so the car makes 600whp, is AWD, and is as comfortable as can be. Yes, my dc5 weighs like 2800lbs, but its the best of both worlds.

I started watching donut thanks to the Miata money pit, I'd love to see the civic done in a way that is realistic...if you buy a $500 civic you probably aren't going to go all in and do $5000 coil-overs, but you might go mid range $1500, new seats, wheels and tires....would be a fun watch imo.
I love that 95' classic! I still have mine. I dropped a nicely built and heavily modified B18C in it. Plus, I added all the drivetrain, suspension, and EMS goodies you can think of. It is still running strong. I've got some FWD JDM madness that surprises some of the hottest muscle cars in the 8th. PLEASE BUILD UP THAT CIVIC!

I want to see how much does it take to make that 500 dollar civic into a even match to the new type r I think it would make a good series especially for all the old and new civic lovers
I had a 94 EG same color and trim level and even with all it's quirks and blemishes, still one of my favorite cars I've ever owned. They're great reliable little go carts that are a blast to drive even at low power, and imo they look great stylistically! Would love to see them take this hatch further with a series of its own🤘
Had the 94 lsi 4 door and fckn loved it
Like some others said, please make a video (or a few videos) converting the EG to a DIY "Type R" or something alike, and see how a bunch of upgrades and design changes can make it stand against the 2023 Type R, would be sick and lots of fun! Keep it up!
I am sure the new type r look will keep growing on me more, I prefer it in most ways to the previous gen except maybe the front. It isn't bad, but almost looks like a newer dart or charger (just Dodge in general) with those rounded headlights and jutting forward front bumper portion. I liked the larger corner bumper areas more on the previous gen, but all in all this one is nice and improved in a lot of ways (like the wing). The hatch looks still more like an elongated sedan so think from a hatch standpoint that is a miss, but also find it funny how they re-designed the taillights and now the 22 subaru wrx tail lights looks more like a honda than the honda does now hah
@@mattswank personally a huge fan od the 2023 Type R design, especially in the white or grey configuration. Really not sure if I could ever fully drive that thing but the one thing I do know is that the more I look at it the more I'll want one lmao
The fact that the EG is still kicking around the track with over 400k miles is impressive to say the least. You guys should definitely do a budget track build with it
Keep at it with the EG civic. Maybe a new season of Money Pit? I've wanted one since forever. Hot hatch rules. The markup is too high in Indiana. Our used vehicle market is rediculous.
I loved my EG hatch while I had it. Used it as a commuter for over 6 years and put over 200k miles on it during that time. As parts wore out, I upgraded them with high performance parts as they were stupid cheap! By the time I was done it had koni struts, drop springs, billet control arms, poly bushings, stoptech brakes, stainless exhaust, konig wheels, the list goes on and on and it was a blast to drive and got me over 40 mpg as well.
You guys should take the EG hatch, strip it out completely, add racing seats and a roll cage, add new wheels/brakes/suspension and swap in a K24. Make it a full time attack race car with crazy aero and a halltech dash!

The big difference between the two is the longevity and ease of maintenance. I would expect the 90's civic to last a lot longer than the new one. Parts are going to be super easy to come by and a lot easier to work on. Everything about the older civic and many older vehicles in general is that they are extremely easy to work on. We rebuilt the rear end of our F350 after an axle broke. Recently replaced the steering gearbox and so many other repairs to it.
You’d be surprised how easy the new civic is to work on and how reliable
That new civic still has that Honda reliability behind it, when you've been making motors for that long you're not suddenly going to make stinkers because times changed. Maintenance will likely be the same with focus on the oil and coolant, as always, parts I do agree will be more expensive when they do break but probably more due to the type r being a purpose built vs the EG being the grocery getter economy of the 90s.
Bro, it's a honda. Longevity and reliability should be their slogan.
The older the car is the harder parts are to find
@@samlung2724 depends on the part. The transaxle was a tough find, we got really lucky with the salvage yard. But we bought a rebuild kit. There are other parts for our 91 f350 that are available all day everyday.
