bro ive watched alot of guys but you have given me complete confidence and inspiration...the world needs more people like you for sure
did u make it?
Awesome video. Gotta love that 1" square tubing. Makes things so simple : )
Hi, you explain really well, i tryed to do a go kart too and i put the spindle brackets with a 10° angle, because if you put it exactly at 90° the go kart won't bend. Thank you for this videos. It is very inspiring
is there maybe a way I could buy this steering setup but without the rest of the kit?
I think I'm going to be building a go kart soon this video was very informative and gives you a very good description of everything
Great job buddy, this video so inspiring to gokart builder. Thanks for sharing
Quick, thorough, simple with out a lot of dialog
Excellent video, where you been l watch you religisly enjoy your video so much. Thanks Joe.
Great work bro every thing you say so slowly that,s good
good job, those are beautiful welds
Excellent video. Well done. 👍
The best lesson ever on sterring front ends
Good demonstration brother
That's a lot simpler than I thought it would be. Thanks :)
+TheSvenVids Thanks. Yeah, go kart steering is pretty straight forward and reliable.
+KartFab can you solder the metal
thanks
Thank you! Very helpful!!
awesome vids man
Great video. Appreciate the details which actually make this very useful. We are about to install the spindles but was under the impression that you need "camber" resulting in a spindle slightly angled backward 5-10° to offset downward compression and turning resistance. Looks like you kept the spindles at 90°.
It’s a kids go kart 1 wheel peel. Camber/caster/Ackerman are nice but this gets the job done for what it is.
good tutorials, awesome job
Mohd Helme ....
fantastic video. can you show us how you made the spindle and tie rods assembly? how did you make/bend the spindle brackets to a letter "c" , or did you just buy ready made spindle brackets?
great work
Hey, can you provide some knowledge with akerman steering arrangement for baja competition
Dobra robota :) Good Job
Thanks!
You are really expert .. Good job
Well now I know how to fix my go-kart & for that I thank you! I also now know the name of the thing I damaged the "pitman arm"... Overall pretty useful video; thanks for sharing!
awesome , great job
Exactly what I needed for my go kart project thanks
+Honda Cr 500 no problem, and have fun building!
Its less expensive to buy a go kart that is pre-made versus have someone make you one.
Clayton Crawford you shall watch and find out :)
Clayton Crawford also it's a pretty easy to put them together
thank u very much.. it help me lot
Great,I built this same set up in 1978, and won second prize at state fair ( 7th grade) I think I may build another 1 nice bit of inspiration
You are the best.
You are the Bob Ross of go kart building. We're just going to weld up a little happy pitman arm.
😂😂😂
I inherited a really nice small drill press, It makes life better.
Interested your angle measurement tool, yellow colour, where you buy that?
awsome...!!!
Verry good
Do you have a video for disc brake installation?
Wow thanks I'm building my own good cart too
thanks man
Excellent video. If I were you though, I would invest in a steel table top(36x36, or 48x48). Go to the scrap yard and you can find something that would work nicely. The second thing about the steel table would be no longer needing nails to hold your form. You can use magnets… Like nature intended! 😂😂😂 PS, please drill your wheel nuts and attach a cotter pin. Vibrations will ultimately cause the nut to loosen, and fall off. Hopefully not while you are riding fast.
Ah this answers my question seconds into the video go karts should steer easily. Which is what I had been used to go karting for many yrs not professionally though. The reason I ask is one place I went to had karts that were well hard to steer the wheel was hard to turn and track was rough so trying to go full power was creating many times I felt I would crash. These were a different kart than I was use too as well though the ones I am use to are fast but not racing ones this ones looked faster but not sure if they were
excelent wielder but i would grind them down for a better looking finish ican grind lol but i cant wield like you nice job
Hey guys what should be the king pin inclination for go kart?
I don’t know much about welding so excuse me if I sound ignorant but what type of welder is that? And what brand is it?
Have any idea about ackerman mechanism
bro i need a help i want to know how to paint a fibreglass sample plz tell this in ur next video its urgent
great great ... go on
thanks
Thanks buddy, I was watching your welding now I'm blind !!!!
You're welcome, glad to have contributed to your blindness. Anytime.
jajajaja ok
When i checked the site for the kit it was out of stock would it comeback or thats it?
Thanks for the video. How tight should the bolt and lock nut be on spindle?.im having steering issues. When i turn the cart pushes through the outside tire and slides. Any thoughts thanks
Don’t give it as much gas and and don’t turn as sharp.
can you explain steering system along with suspensions
How do you determine the turning radii for the wheels? How do you make sure the inner wheel turns tighter when turning?
Thanks!
To do that you need to have the spindle bars facing backwards to change the ackarman angle.
how you decided the angle of steering control arm?
I am developing something similar to it so if there is any general angles for fixed radius of rotation , they may help alot.
good luck, pitman arm should be roughly 1/2 the length of the spindle arms, and you keep pitman arm from over rotating to keep wheels from locking up and sliding due to over rotation.
what would the schematics look like if you made it with miniature springs for shock absorption. i would love to make a small racer cart lifted just a bit to add that, that way it'll not only be fast but smooth as well
I actually did that for the live axle version of this kart. It’s called springer suspension Https://kartfab.com/live-axle-go-kart-plans
Nice work! I noticed you did your spindle brackets at 90 degrees. I'm currently rebuilding a kart for grass and dirt. No pavement. Would 90 degrees work for me? Will I have over/under steer issues?
+Mike F 2-7 degrees from 90 would be ideal.
+KartFab Wow! Quick response! Thanks!! I'll shoot for 85 degrees then.
on the spindles what is the bolt tread or what size
Ive watched your video.I'd point out that you have no Ackerman with the tie rod arms at a 90 degree to the spindles.A good rule of thumb is If the arms are out in front, they should be angled out,(with the tires straight ahead)so an imaginary line from center of tie rod and kingpin bolt should meet at the center of back axle. And if the arms are behind, angle them in toward frame.you'll be amazed at how much better they'll turn.No scuffing off the treads.(see my video. Go Kart steering explained .Including Ackermann theory. ) john wade, you tube.
Awsome
dude you give such a simple and great explanation ! thanks a ton,,, i was worrying that i had to get a rack and pinion steering which is costly according to my budget. thanks a tonn for this simple yet effective steering mechanism. but i wanted to ask, would the vehicle be stable sayat a speed of 60- 80 kmph? (37-50 mph)
Ask your mom. If you go that fast in a kart, instead of RIPPing, you going to 🪦RIP
@@KartFab hahahahahaha.......nice one ....i just asked to know about its stability 🤣🤣😂
What program do you use to design
hi :)
when i convert from inch to cm : 41" = 104,... cm its not enough !! i think that its too small for an adulte !!
(sorry for my poor english ! ) can i konw what do you think about that ?? thanks ! ^_^'
Good
good
i just need tires and rims where do i buy those only?
At about the 2:35 mark you weld a small washer to one of the ends of the steering column, but I don't see that in the PDF plans? There it looks like the steering column is welded to the 2 1/2" OD washer.
Can you clarify?
Thanks!
+Wayde Gilliam yes. I just used the small washer to fill in the gap from the larger washer when welding it.
Google 'Ackermann theory'BEFOREyou weld the tie rod arms.If out front, they need to be angled towards tire's inner sidewall,if theyre in behind axle, they need to be angled in toward the framerails.
question. for the floor panell can i just use a sheet of thin ply wood or does it have to be sheet metal
+Agora Gaming it can be whatever you want.
I have a kart frame I'm building it's an old race frame I think? I don't think it's home made. I can't find any info on it itself. It's definitely made for going in circles around a track. The steering spindles are at extreme angles and it always wants to turn you really have to hang on the wheel to keep it straight. I want to change that. Should I just cut and weld them back up straight?
Ask that question with pictures on DIYgokarts.com there might be more to the puzzle than you think.
@@KartFab thank you I registered to the site but it won't let me post. Hopefully in a day or two I'll get admin review or something like that , it's telling me something like that anyway. Thx
what ga are you using for the chassis ? 11 ga ? or 14 ga great video clear explanation
11 but you can get away with 14 except for axles
where did you get the spacers? Can I use 3/4" OD black pipe cut to size?
Yup it has a bit of slop if you do it with pipe but it’s fine. Or 11 ga 1” tubing and grind the shaft down a tiny bit.

Mantap bang... saya juga lagi bikin go kart...😁🙏😊👍
Sir , could you please give a brief on kill switch please
Sir, I urgently need your help.
I have finished my go kart thanks to you and your tutorials.
My front wheels turn at different angles!! If I turn right the right wheel turns about 30 degrees and the left turns 45 degrees. If I turn left the opposite happens. With your experience, pls share what makes the angle issue.
Will appreciate your response
I have a feeling you didn't actually use any of the parts I linked to, and you just kind of made it up as you went... Being without the proper parts and cutting corners is probably why you are in this situation. Is this true? So even if the wheels turn at different angles, does the kart turn and handle well?
KartFab
Sir, many thanks for your prompt response
You are very right. Where I am, accessing the parts becomes very expensive. So we used about 10mm round bar to fabricate the rods connecting the steering to the wheels.
However, I had several challenges
I used a Centrifugal clutch from amazon along with a 34 teeth sprocket to rotate a live axle having 16inch Tyres.
My clutch started smoking and became really hot
- my front Tyres (only 10 inches) were cutting the corner but I guess that because I did not use the bracket to stop steering cut, started to slip.
If not too much for you, pls advise
I want to share the pics with u via email. Thanks
@@zainhussein1975 you will need to research ACKERMAN steering. What you have created is the opposite of what you need to do.
KartFab
Well I will work on the Tyres and try sourcing the parts from GPS
Any insight on the clutch and sprocket issue shall be appreciated
Many yhanks
@@zainhussein1975 you know... if you would have just looked at the free go kart plans i have listed here kartfab.com/go-kart-plans then you wouldnt have to ask so many questions. The reason your clutch is burning up is because you have the wrong size rear axle sprocket. Get an axle sprocket that will give you a 6:1 or higher gear ratio. Id say if you have a 10t clutch to get a 72t axle sprocket. You want to gear for no more than 25 mph at 3600 rpm.
What are the lengths of the tie rods?
Hi, could you tell me what Welder are you using here? Thanks
Millermatic 251
Friends what is the name of that type of welder that welding machine ???
mig welder
goooooood
is it safe to implement frontal suspension system with this steering build?
Just select “springer” suspension
👍Cool
what app are you using when you are making the go kart plan?
Cad
What is the easiest way to reduce the turning radius? I ended up with a very wide radius
Lengthen the pitman arm, or look into Ackerman
wow
Hi. So I'm confused on the steering hoop. The free plans say to cut it at 39 degrees but your video is at 51 degrees? Where does the 39 come into play?
+Nadia Valdes depends on what measurement system you are using, and what size of the angle you are wanting to show...... so 90 degrees minus 39=51 :-)
A chop saw would read 39 degrees, and a protractor would read 51.
If you were measuring a flat cut on the end of a tube, a protractor would read 90, whereas a chop saw would read 0
+KartFab thanks for the response. I had my steel provider make the cuts and gave them the 39 degree measurement, but they must have used a flat cut because it measures 39 with my protractor not 51 so I think I'm gonna need to recut my hoop. I'm good with welding and mechanics but I'm clearly angle deficient! :)
can u pls let me know the material used for building pitman arm and steering arm??
link to plans in video description. Plans list out ALL materials, lengths, and dimensions used in build.
Can you Please explain how steering stop works?
+Prashanth it prevents the steering wheel from over rotating in either direction.
KartFab
I've got to 3.2 turns lock to lock rack and pinion, i want to make a steering stop, could you please tell me how can i do one?
so what is making it lock? can you move the thing that is making it lock?
KartFab
I'm building an Off road car from scratch,
In that I've to make a steering stop
Can i get your mail id?
plz show me how to calculate all the dimension for steering goemetry i am from D Y PATIL ENGINEERING COLLEGE AKURDI PUNE INDIA my team is working ona gokart n we are stuck on the steering goemetry plzz help
I notice some go karts have the tie rods at the back, and some (like yours) have the tie rods at the front. What difference does this make?
+PR0bro you just described the difference.
Sorry, I mean difference performance and handling wise.
+PR0bro again, no difference. People tend to over complicate things. If you want to modify handling you adjust the angle of the kingpin, camber, caster, spindle arm length, etc. tie rod location is not that relevant to the equation.
oh, thank you. What does the spindle arm length effect?
how sensitive the steering is
did you weld the spindles at a 90° angle? what about caster and camble?
90 and no caster or camber. This is the way old school go karts are made (e.g. manco) If you want to change it up you can, but there are always going to be compromises (e.g. tire wear, ease of turning, squirrely/touchy).
KartFab thanks for the fast reply, I just hope mine works out ok. I just welded mine at 10° camber and 15° caster.
that should be alright, might need to bend the spindle brackets a bit to get the tie rods to clear the frame but thats not a big deal
KartFab ya I'm just waiting for my parts in the mail to see if it clears the frame, it's gonna be close though.
KartFab well it seems fine until I hit 45 mph then it gets the touchy steering so I'ma do 0 camber and 5 caster cuz it scares the shit outta me, I got almost flipped a couple times when racing lol
Why not use cart starting system car bus ?
Wow
pasame los plano
What are the wheels and hubs and tires and all that?
right here, just click on the go kart kit link and you can see a breakdown of all individual parts kartfab.com/go-kart-plans
What kind of welder was the one he used in this video?
i used a miller 212 with .035 sold core wire 75/25 gas mix.
so i have a lincoln mig 180 welder and i ran out of gas should i continue to weld
+Agora Gaming do what you think is best.
hey man quick question can you weld a small sprocket to the shaft of the engine or will it not stick...i know once its welded it cant be removed. thanks
+Agora Gaming not a good idea
Did you play for it
What if I don’t have a grinder or welding thing
How is called this program that you make the kart i will subscribe
+antonio Mazilu CAD
Can I put a momo on my kart🤔
I am going to try to do this what you think man🤔
What type of steering system this is?
pitman arm, really basic stuff
KartFab thanks u very much for reply
Co to za pisoenka? :3
