  • For centuries, The Benádir people were well known for their aptitude in business, craftmanship and trade in the East African Coast. Their pivotal role in connecting the Somali interior to the Indian Ocean realm has enabled them to become an economic powerhouse. They were certainly the driving force in not only religion, but also commerce on the coast. In this episode, we will dive in the tradition of handcrafts, and products manufactured by The Benádir People. We will explore how each crafts are uniquely attributed to a specific Benádir clan and how they are passed down from generation to generation.

Banaadir was not only a land of cultured ulama who taught theology, Islamic law and administered justice but was also a land of artisans in which shapeless pieces revealed new harmonies in the hands of stonemasons, weavers, goldsmiths, wood carvers, blacksmiths, tanners leather made. The Banaadir Factor reminds us of all this.

Another classic as usual. The older guys in my family all know some of these skills. Unfortunately they have been lost to this generation. Inshallah we need to preserve our traditions for future generations

I’m not Banadiri but I really love learning about your distinctive/unique and rich culture. I’m also fully aware of the blatant discrimination and atrocities the Reer Hamar and Bravanese people experienced in their home towns, as told by my mother who’s from Somaliland.
May Allah grant your beautiful communities their deserved rights both in this world & the Akhira 🤲🏽✨

The thing most people don't know is that the INDIAN OCEAN was called THE ETHIOPIAN OCEAN in ancient times. And India itself was known as Ethiopia. You can find this information on ancient maps. This Africans who live in that area were the first and original people to discover India and the rest of the continent of Asia.
