      @@simonecappiello3937 no, it isn't better to speak English, it is always much better to be able to speak the local language because the connections you can create with the locals are stronger. Having said this, it is obvious that it is impossible to learn any language in the world and therefore knowing English is a good compromise and is "the easy way" to go for, but communicating in English is certainly not better than speaking the local language, speaking the local language is ALWAYS the best way

      Villages like this are pretty common in Slovakia, he was literally in the middle of nowhere. Slovakians are very dear to us Czechs. They taught us how to be warmer and more socially open and we taught them how to be more industrious. Our spirit and their development both gained. Even after split, our cultural exchange is still very strong. When you cross the border between Czechia and Slovakia it just seems like a different region of the same country even after 30 years of split.

    • @jan22150
      @jan22150 Рік тому +8

      Why did the country split in two parts?

    • @Aggoenix
      @Aggoenix Рік тому +96

      @@jan22150 it was political split, no referendum, Czechoslovakia was federation, so both sides had basically quite big autonomy and two prime ministers wanted to govern their parts with different philosophies/political programs.
      Slovakia wanted indipendence more, they felt like Czechs decided everything for them, Czechia was like a older brother with bigger population, multiple bigger capital city, historical indipendence and more international power. So Czechs were more like keep it, we are stronger together and Slovaks divide, we want our indipendence and you control us too much. But if there was referendum it would be like 80:20 in Czechia and 50:50 in Slovakia. But countries divided peacefuly and we enjoy perfect relations today, many put as an example of how these splits would look like, because 80-90% splits end up up in some war, crisis, uprising etc. Politicians even proposed to create some alliance in the past but the EU basically did all the things they proposed. There are still hundreds of thousands people with dual citizenship or Czechoslovakian citizenship. Its quite common that Slovaks go to Czechia for studies, since we have older and bigger universities free for them. The languages are more like dialects. Slovaks speak to us in Slovakian and we understand like 95% even as children.

Not sure if that is your real experience or you had to cut off many things but generally I think people were super nice to you to try to help you and show around even thought they could not speak english but their hand gestures/ slow talking and repeating stuff made it work. I often see videos and posts about visible minorities going to backwoods countries that have barely any immigrants from cross continental populations and acting surprised when they are treated well.
      Well, duh, no shit.. you’re an oddity there. If England or France had the Black population of Slovakia then people would be way more receptive of you visiting.
      There was an interesting documentary I watched about a group of Japanese Samurai touring Western Europe in the 1800’s. They were so impressed by how they treated like royalty with such respect. The thing is, now the French and English recognize that they are becoming a racial/ethnic minority in their own nation, so obviously and unfortunately they will be less welcoming to their perceived demographic substitutes.

    "Dobrý den" is a magic word in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
    I had a friend who lived in Prague and quite often had very noisy parties. But at the same time, when he met his neighbours during the day, he would greet everyone with a careful "Dobrý den" and all was forgiven.

    4:07 "on the floor". It's not the floor. If it's outside mate, it's called the ground. I hear this all the time in videos from the UK, people referring to the ground as the floor.
    An easy way to remember the correct usage is :
    "Normally, the floor is what you walk on inside a building, and the ground is what you walk on outside." This is the way I was taught in school in the UK in the 1950s/60s.
    I have lived and worked in two other english speaking countries (currently in Canada) and the ground is never referred to as the floor in those countries. Is this the way it is taught in the UK now?

Otherwise they would not be able to help you and maybe you would receive some silence, but just because the older generation doesn't speak english. However really lovely to see how open hearted you were, so they were able to show their kind open mind. And the man who took you to the groceries was the sweetest, this type is usually always the most helpfull to anyone he can. Really sweet personality :)

    If there are not pathways, you should walk on the left side of the road. It is our policy. It might feel a bit counterintuitive at first but it makes a sense. In that way, cars are not approaching you from your back, which is very uncomfortable. You hear the car but do not see it. When walking on the left side of the road, you can see the cars perfectly and have enough time to react if anything goes wrong.

    Great video, just a small technical note. The Trabant is an old East German car and, as already written, the car is a Lada Niva.

      Rule of thumb do not offer this kind of help if no one asked for it.
      You can easily be depicted as arrogant and disrespectful...I'm just saying!

    Man, I’m Watching your video with someone that speaks Slovak and is actuallly so funny, the interactions are so natural and random.
    It shows how actually a foreign from town is seen from the local people, they try to help you in a very meaningful way.
    Your reactions are cool, man literally told you that they the owners passed away and they sons have to sold the house because they move away and your answer is:
    “Dobre (Good)”

    I don't know Czech or Slovak. But I know another Slavic language, sometimes i understand some words. I love the nature of Slovakia and Czech Republic the most, also i like your houses and villages.

    This video is brilliant. I'm from the Czech Republic, but it is beautiful how you show Slovakia and the Czech Republic to people all over the world, with so much love. You gave me some good mood. Thank you very much for such a content. You absolutely deserve my subscribe. JSI BOREC🤩

    As someone from Slovakia I can tell that you can speak pretty well, even though it sounded more like czech language. Slovak and Czech languages are very similar.

    The people in Slovakia are so friendly! Reminded me of my travel in Bratislava, Kosice, and some other smaller towns. Impressive that you speak the language so well - the grammar is very difficult!
