As the designer of the original prototype Rainforest Cafes (90's), I was thoroughly entertained watching this...thank you. (Mall of America, Schaumburg, Gurnee, and Disney....yes, I designed the erupting volcano). If you ever want some funny stories about when these were first developed let me know.
Coming back to watch this in July 2023 and seeing Margaritaville in the background when they're in the Mall of America is like going back to watch the first spiderverse movie and seeing that guy get hit with the bagel
I love that a therapy company sponsored this video of two very unhinged adult men trying to visit every location of an obscure restaurant from the 2000s across the country
From Ted’s perspective, it’s a grand adventure with two beloved but imperfect heroes. From Eddy’s perspective it’s a grueling quest with torture every step of the way that makes you feel like you’re trapped in a repeating purgatory with an annoying sidekick alongside you.
Having seen Eddy's video beforehand, it's quite amusing to observe the stark difference in the enjoyment you experienced compared to his complete meltdown. This video made my day honestly, thanks for that.
Haha, this actually reminds me of a funny story about Ted Nivison and the Rainforest Cafe! A couple years back, I was actually at a Rainforest Cafe with my family and I saw none other than Ted Nivison! Being the huge fan that I was, I thought it might be nice to get a picture with him or something, so I decided to approach him and say hi. As soon as I was about to open my mouth though, Ted shushed me and said, "Do you really think you have the RIGHT to talk to ME? Do you know who I am?" He then grabbed my arm and snapped it in two, watching me writhe in agony as I fell to the ground. He took some of the ornamental plates they had at the Cafe and smashed them over my head. He then took some of the plastic toys of dart frogs and other rainforest animals and shoved them down my throat. Finally, he pulled out his trusty hammer and snapped both of my knees in two. He swore to me, "If I EVER see your stupid face again, you'll face the TRUE wrath of the Kneebreaker..." Classic Ted!
The WILD difference between Ted and Eddy’s videos absolutely sends me. I thought Eddy had just edited Ted to be way too happy and enthusiastic about the whole thing, but here we are lmao
You have been introduced to the Ted Nivison experience Crumb. It’s only due time before Ted will come to your house, climb through your window, give you an autograph, and will then give you a pretty good excuse to go to the emergency room. Welcome to the club! Why are you still here? You know all you need to know. Actually I would like to know, just for a friend How did you escape? You’ve met him so many times… HOW ARE YOUR LIMBS NOT MASSIVELY DAMAGED?
I like how Ted is so enthusiastic about everything in this video and in Eddy’s video he sounded like he was holding a shotgun under his own chin during the whole voice over recording. One way out. One way to escape the rainforest. Also, I live just outside Nashville and visit Opry Mills fairly often (for the LEGO store) and to see Ted and Eddy wander in the same mall I know so well is a bit like seeing Bigfoot in the background of a family picture.
I always went to the Opry Mills aquarium restaurant when I was a kid and I always felt superior to the ppl going to the RFC next door because ours had real animals lol
i've been in the katy mills mall while it was closing and the only sign of life in the mall was that damn rainforest cafe. it was terrifying. it felt like i was transported to a liminal space and the only interesting thing there was a RAINFOREST CAFE
I like that this video is more about the trip as a whole and Eddy's is more about each restaurant and his descent into Madness, they really complement each other lol
These are actually a masterclass on how to tell a story in different ways from the same event. Definitely really interesting to see what each person left in or kept out.
This proves a theory of mine that anytime you see someone in a clearly non rental car across the country, you never know if they’re just up to some absolutely bonkers and pointless trip while crossing this god foresaken land
I once saw an old car on the other side of the country from it's license plate and it had text I couldn't catch (it was dirty and small, and the car was moving away), but under the text there was a different bumper sticker that said "SUBSCRIBE"
I drove a 30 hour round trip, 15 hours nonstop each way, in my own car. I’ve driven long trips just to see friends for a day or two and then go home. So yes, absolutely bonkers.
The long awaited alternate POV despite only taking 6 days to release. The juxtaposition of Eddie's sanity slipping psycological horror and Ted's happy jovial buddy comedy is truly an innovation in cinema.
Ted: Loving life, having a good time, enjoying himself at all these Rainforest Cafes Eddy: Slowly losing his sanity at being forced to eat the same food over and over again, and only having his monkey friends to comfort him
I remember meeting ted on this journey and what a lovely time it was. Eddy was sobbing, chained to the table while ted took photos of every fish they had at the location in ontario. When I approached Ted to say hello his smile fell and he stared at me dead-eyed and breathing violently through his nostrils. By the time I exited the restaurant Ted was long gone, along with Eddie who was still chained up. As I was walking to the bus stop to go home, I heard a car start up and I turned around just in time to see Ted in the drivers seat, grinning from ear to ear, right before he ran me over with his 2002 toyota tacoma in the color forest green. Such a pleasure to finally meet Ted Nivison and to be able to watch his adventures from my hospital bed!
@@JudgeNicodemus this has been going on for a while in Ted's comment sections. I dread to imagine Jerma and Ted in the same room. Together they would be fear and insanity incarnate

Something as simple as Ted wanting to see a giant pistachio & Edd not wanting too yet they still went & saw it. That’s the humor that gets me. Thank you.
Ted: beautiful story about two friends having the time of their lives and creating wonderful memories. Conclusion: cups. Eddy: a painful, realistic documentary that progressively gets worse and worse, dealing with Ted's antics and getting PTSD from the jungle animals and the rainstorms, only to be liberated from his suffering at the end. Conclusion: PAIN.
I love this video. My sister and my niece (6yo) are currently on a roadtrip vacation, and when I found out they were visiting in-laws in Katy TX for a few days, I remembered this vid and I told them that they're in a city with an RFC, and they gave it a shot! My niece absolutely loved it (she loves animals, nature, and french fries, so you can imagine who had lots of SAFARI FRIES), and wants to come back! When I called to see how they were doing, despite all my niece had seen, the highlight to her trip was the RFC. We may joke about it, but this place is truly magical to children. Oh yeah, also my sister thought it was pretty nice and now brother-in-law is dreading visiting his parents, because he knows that from now on he has to take his daughter to the RFC every time they go.

Ted’s video is like playing through a fun storyline in a RPG, and Eddy’s video feels like an alternate path that reveals that everything wasn’t sunshine and rainbows after all
Fun fact, not only is there a Rainforest Cafe at Disney Springs, but there's also a place called "T-Rex Cafe" that's from the same people that made RFC, and it's all dinosaur themed. Prehistoric environment, dino animatronics everywhere, and instead of a thunderstorm, it has meteor showers. It's really freaking cool.
I genuinely want a movie version of Ted and eddy traveling across the country, just doing random shit and running into a bunch of different youtubers and doing random shit all while going to the rainforest cafe’s
The only thing that could make Eddy's video of absolute devastation and suffering through something so incredibly needless and stupid, is this, Ted's video of unbridled joy and enthusiasm like an overjoyed youthful child experiencing his favorite thing over and over again without a hint of it getting old or less pleasing to experience, these two are the yin and yang of youtube and their existence together is perfect harmony. Never change, either of you, I love it
I don't know why but I keep coming back to Ted and Eddy's road trip videos. For some reason I actually enjoy them that much and if they did something like going to every Bubba Gump location I would watch that.
I love how Eddy's video is this Odyssey to return home against all odds, battling depression and mediocre mall food and Ted's video is just non-stop joy punctuated by car problems and Eddy's misery.
I love randomly stumbling across high quality, long form content like this on UA-cam. A half an hour video about travelling to cafes I have never heard of? let me grab a blankie and a hot chocolate because I am one hundred percent invested. I can't tell you how often I fantasize about taking road trips across the country but I instead play American Truck Simulator so this was a nice therapeutic fix for me.

All with Obi-Wan travelling Europe. I highly recommend checking it out.
seeing the lineup of rainforest cafe mascots was a uniquely horrifying experience for me because I realized I had all of these as plastic toys and I never knew what they were from.. ive spent countless hours playing with tuki the elephant without ever realizing she was a felon
I love the dichotomy between Eddy and Ted's videos. Eddy's is a retelling of his vacation through hell and Ted's is a retelling of his bucket list road trip
Love the juxtaposition between Ted's video and Eddy's video. Ted's is an enthusiastic, optimistic view at the cafe in an attempt to recapture a bit of childhood magic. Meanwhile Eddy's is a slow descent into madness as he is tortured to relive his experience at the cafe over and over again over the span of weeks. This was such a fun ride.
Ted has such an aggressively positive energy that I just can’t even begin to fathom. I would 100% go with him to every Rainforest Cafe if asked, just because I know I couldn’t possibly be in a negative mood with someone like him around.
The “MAYBE ITS ALL I HAVE!” moment was so powerful to me. Ted really unleashed his true feelings, he allowed the confident rainforest cafe facade to slip for a moment, and we saw the real Ted - a man, nay a boy, deeply afraid of losing his favorite restaurant chain.
You are literally the only person that could possibly make driving across the country to go to 18 rainforest cafes with someone who is seriously cracking their psyche over it absolutely captivating. And you did it so well.
It’s so funny seeing the difference between Eddy and Teds perspectives. Eddy literally hated every minute of it and you could tell through the whole vid and in this one you can see how much Ted is loving almost every minute of it.
With Ted and Eddy's videos, I kind of wish Drew Gooden would just make a video about how he went to a single Rainforest Cafe to have dinner with Eddy and Ted.
This video tapped into my sense of humour and broke it irreparably. Ted's delusional optimism and childlike wonder, and Eddy's ever growing despair paired like fine wine. thank you for your work, gentlemen.
Ted's video: a heartfelt road trip video where two friends go on a hilarious adventure, with tons of other friends along the way Eddie's video: A dive into the mind of a man slowly going insane with every Safari Fry
If you notice today that "Nile" the crocodile's mouth never fully closes is because in the beginning a guest actually reached into his mouth and cut his arm yanking it out along his teeth.

You have been introduced to the Ted Nivison experience Crumb. It’s only due time before Ted will come to your house, climb through your window, give you an autograph, and will then give you a pretty good excuse to go to the emergency room. Welcome to the club!

I felt the same way when I saw them in the MOA for the Bloomington one, so fun to see places you know so well in a UA-cam vid.
That was the perfect way to describe that thank you :)
Eddy glossed over the Michigan one and it was barely mentioned here lol
I always went to the Opry Mills aquarium restaurant when I was a kid and I always felt superior to the ppl going to the RFC next door because ours had real animals lol
me too!! i was so happy
i've been in the katy mills mall while it was closing and the only sign of life in the mall was that damn rainforest cafe. it was terrifying. it felt like i was transported to a liminal space and the only interesting thing there was a RAINFOREST CAFE
We mortals could never understand them
I once saw an old car on the other side of the country from it's license plate and it had text I couldn't catch (it was dirty and small, and the car was moving away), but under the text there was a different bumper sticker that said "SUBSCRIBE"
I drove a 30 hour round trip, 15 hours nonstop each way, in my own car. I’ve driven long trips just to see friends for a day or two and then go home. So yes, absolutely bonkers.
As someone who takes multiple cross country trips and sleeps in my own car - youre not wrong.
Fr especially when you live in a small town/middle of nowhere. It’s like “why?”
The long awaited alternate POV despite only taking 6 days to release. The juxtaposition of Eddie's sanity slipping psycological horror and Ted's happy jovial buddy comedy is truly an innovation in cinema.
This is the definition of a buddy comedy.
Watching this for the third time, I’m realizing that this was just a massive ADHD hyper fixation for Ted… I feel for him so hard.
This is what I’ve been saying! Like the better help add is the context for the different experiences they had.
Ted: Loving life, having a good time, enjoying himself at all these Rainforest Cafes
Eddy: Slowly losing his sanity at being forced to eat the same food over and over again, and only having his monkey friends to comfort him
Ted: "Eddy was a bigger Rainforest Cafe fan than ever."
Eddy: *"I WILL NEVER EAT ANOTHER GODDAMN SAFARI FRY AS LONG AS I LIVE!!!"*,

The complete contrast between Eddy wanting to die the whole time, and Ted just being happy to be there is perfect.
I was thinking the same thing. I guess perspective is a lot of it.
I love randomly stumbling across high quality, long form content like this on UA-cam. Meanwhile Eddy's is a slow descent into madness as he is tortured to relive his experience at the cafe over and over again over the span of weeks.
This was such a fun ride.
The duality of Ted and Eddy

Ted has such an aggressively positive energy that I just can’t even begin to fathom. I would 100% go with him to every Rainforest Cafe if asked, just because I know I couldn’t possibly be in a negative mood with someone like him around.
and because he would shatter your kneecaps if you didn’t go

The “MAYBE ITS ALL I HAVE!” moment was so powerful to me. Ted really unleashed his true feelings, he allowed the confident rainforest cafe facade to slip for a moment, and we saw the real Ted - a man, nay a boy, deeply afraid of losing his favorite restaurant chain.

Seeing Eddy happy at the start of this video is chilling, knowing that he has a psychological breakdown later in the trip
