    I was expecting some "drunk history" type thing where it just makes up stuff and shit, but this was actually very informative and true to history. As a historian myself I was very very impressed with the amount of detail and research that must've went into this. Fun fact: Mr. Mozzarella was called The Grease because of his torture method, grease boarding, where, similar to water boarding, he would tie someone to a chair, cover their face with a towel and pour large amounts fresh hot grease from a pizza on their face to get his answers he needed. It proved to be 100% more efficient than water boarding.

    I'm Italian (born in Italy), so seeing the history of pizza is an amazing experience for me. Here's a couple of other old pizza facts: the current south of Germany also had a couple of pizza recipes when exchanging good with the Roman Empire, and before people started using tomato sauce (waay later than the importation of tomato plants to Europe, friendly reminder that tomatoes were seen as purely ornamental because mortals though of them as poisonous), pesto sauce was used (mainly in Genova). Also there's different types of pizzas (napoletana, pugliese) in Italy too! This video is good and favorite puppy, I'll remember it next time I visit Dimension 1-C!

      Io le ho sempre sentite chiamare napoletana e romana ovunque, a meno che tu non stia parlando di un altro tipo di pizza

    What blows my mind is there was actually a "little caesar" (caesarian), born to Cleopatra. Caesar never acknowledged him as his son, but allowed him to keep his name.

  • @scythicle6057
    @scythicle6057 3 роки тому +187

    The name "Renaissance" actually comes from small town in Italy (city currently unknown). According to ancient texts, a 3 month old baby had seen the preparation of a standard pizza, specifically the preparation of the sauce. As he was attempting to pronounce "Red Sauce", he slurred his words and blurted out what became the word "Renaissance". The townfolk started referring to pizza as that as an inside joke, until it spread throughout the entire country.
    It's a big part of pizza history that is not known by many, as the regular historians claimed the name as their own, and told the world it was theirs. But those who know the truth truly are an outlier, such as myself, and now you.

    *Fun Fact:*
    Mozzarella cheese was first discovered by an ancient Viking conquerer named Vince Mozz, who found it when he was exploring a cave close to the earth’s molten core. The cave appeared to be a place of worship for an ancient religion, and also seemed to have some geometry unknown to our universe. This cave is now theorized to be a dimensional anomaly. Anyway, Vince brought the cheese up to the surface to show all the other Vikings in his clan, but was sadly killed by a group of ninjas sent by a rival conquerer of ancient China. The cheese never saw the light of day until what we now know as “Italy” rediscovered it. The government will try to deny Vince’s involvement in discovering mozzarella, or the fact that it’s possibly not of our reality, but they can’t hide the truth.

    “real dense birds that fly into windows”
    now what Ted is forgetting to mention here is that those exact species of demon-birds went on to inspire infamous ornithologist, researcher, and game designer: Abbaddon Blitzkriegel (don’t search him up because he totally exists) to create a popular mobile game he then dubbed “ill-tempered avians” or as we now know to be called “angry birds.” I don’t doubt Ted’s knowledge on this however, but I do think he might’ve left it out of the script by accident.
