I ordered one from Aquarium CoOp for my 75 gal Blackwater. Even though i just have floating plants i love how i can do a custom sunrise to sunset and this light looks excellent. Worth every penny. Really makes the fish look great too. Money well spent.
Thank you for taking the time and making all the lighting videos you’ve made. I made my decision based off of your knowledge and I couldn’t be happier. Fluval 3.0 took my tank to a new level, my old light was sub par. Thank you again!
As soon as I put a 3.0 on my tank, my plants just exploded with growth. My Monte Carlo actually started growing a carpet slowly and I’m not running CO2. My red plants are growing incredible as well. Definitely recommend to anyone👍
I've replaced all my lights with Fluval lights. They are expensive but so worth it. The latest version of the app allows you to set up super custom scenes. My tanks come on in the morning for an hour or so I can feed the fish. Then I have them dim way down until early evening. As the evening progresses the lights slowly start to dim to a deep blue and then finally off around midnight. Super configurable.
Thanks for the product review. It is so helpful when choosing a new light or any product. I have a fluval light as well and customer service was extremely easy to deal with.
Thanks Jason. Ive been looking at upgrading my lighting and you have made up my mind. Not only because you and Cory from Aquarium Co-op recommend them, but also because the Fluvals have a hanging set up, which is what I was looking for. Prime Time and Aquarium Co-Op are my go to for advice, keep it up. (I sounded like an advertorial ha ha)
Thanks for the review, just subscribed and bought the light through your channel , I’m setting up a 75 gal aquarium I’ve been watching your videos very informative thanks again for your channel 👍
I love the set up with lights I drive over the road . And with the setting I can control the timer with app.and my wife help with feeding on tank and FaceTime me . So if I see a problem.when I get home I can change settings or I can change on the road.then my wife goes into app with her phone and can set to the changes I’ve made.i highly recommended these lights ,been running for 5 months now no problems 👍👍
I got a fluval plant 3.0 over my 40 breeder. I setup this tank as a high tech planted, and the 3.0 just seemed like the right choice. My only issue with this light over my 18” wide tank is that it sits too low to cover every plant in light. Bought the fluval suspension kit and it is amazing! The “pro” settings on the app are absolutely incredible! Next time I need a great light, I will buy the 3.0 again and not regret it!
parker benz Hey, I’m trying to use the Pro settings but it does not seem to have sleep feature? Light does not completely shut off at my last timepoint saved?
Thanks so much for the video. I also have a 125 gallon tank, so will need 2 of the 36" lights to fully cover the tanks. I have read that it may leave darkness at the ends and also in the center of the aquarium. Have you found this to be a problem on the 2 125 gallon tanks that you installed these lights? Or how did you install the lights? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as these lights will be a huge investment for us on our tank. Thanks for all your videos they are always informative.
Spent $50 on Nicrew classic. After several months most of my plants aren't growing at all and many melted away. Ordered fluval 3.0 for $180 I hope it makes a big difference
I'm not aware of any traditional lights that are water proof - most are somewhat water resistant, but if they wind up in the water for more than a couple seconds they often stop working.
Hello, I have a question for you. I have a 75 gallon, and putting African Cichlids in it....which light do you recommend...? Fluval Plant 3.0 led...Fluval Aquasky bluetooth, or the Fluval Sea Marine 3.0 lights...All in 48-60 size...
Unless your tank is planted I probably wouldn't bother with the 3.0. Marine lights tend to be too blue for freshwater tanks. The others will work better - I like the Aquasky, Hygger and even Nicrew lights.
I have some WC metriaclima Fainzilberi Makonde and would like to grow algae on the rocks for them to eat, would you recommend this light for that? On a 75 gallon tank? Thanks
How do you determine the length yiu need for your tank i have a 27" 20 high tank and i found the 15-24" to be the closest one that would probably be close enough do the sliding out arm brackets have a buffer rangevto make sure its long enough? Would really appreciate the help thanks for all the videos!!
I been using two finnex Stingray 2 plant leds for over two years. While these lights are working great for my plants I recently had a hair algae bloom, due to my father leaving the two leds on for over the 12 hour recommendation. I was able resolve the issue by switching over to moonlight in the evening. I am concerned that I may be running into the same algae issue if my father forgets, the strict lighting schedule and leaves the main lights on in the evening. or he even forgets to turn off the moonlights sometimes at night. Should I swap out my current two lights for fluval 3.0 for its ease of use and the day night cycle features?
Great vid been looking at these and the aqua sky ….. I don’t really have any plants in my tank but have read the light is better in the plant than the aqua sky ….. any thoughts
How would you compare this to the budget Nicrew LED Plus or G2 on amazon? Is it really worth the extra money? The features are definitely cool and i have an odd shaped 65 gallon aqueon tank that's very tall so light penetration is definitely a must. But at almost 3X the price, is there a significant enough difference between them in terms of performance?
If you are growing medium to high light plants I would go with the Fluval. If you are growing no plants or low light the Nicrew will work just fine. You should also check out the Hygger lights - I have bought three of them recently and really like them too!
i know im commenting on an old video, but was wandering as not many videos say anything about the white lights. i have an aquasky 2.0 on a fluval shaker 252l "55 gallon" was looking at the plant 3.0 but my 2.0 has a yellowish hue to it, and wandered if this is the same with the plant 3.0? as really want the white look. also being in the shaker i would say the light sits about 2cm away from the water which seems ok with the 2.0 so assume the ip protection is the same?
I have the Fluval Plant 3.0 and turn down the warm white LEDs to avoid the yellow hue in the evenings and turn it up during the morning to simulate sunlight. Depending on the size of the light, 14-22% of the LEDs are warm white. So if you don't need full power, then you can set warm whites to 0, but if you need more power then it may be better to look into RGB LED lights.
Great informative videos Jason. Keep it up! I have a mainly low light plant 240l tank with ferts and liquid carbon. I have the fluval plant 3.0. What settings in terms of percentage intensity have you got your low light tanks on? It would be really useful to know. Cheers
Hi Jason, great review, but can you put these fluval plant 3.0 on a timer, as during the day when I'm at work, I don't want the lights to be and would they need to be on a Fluval timer system. Thanks
What about UV lights. Specifically for a 55gal? Good or bad idea. . .I love the way the light makes the tank look and at night time it's nice and deep in color and not so bright
I have a couple of questions that pertain to water changes. I know that there are some aquarists that are set up to do their water changes automatically. I’ve seen some of the different ways (one guy twists some handles or knobs to start the water changes and a different guy has a digital item that he sets which day to do the water change to which tank, how much water to remove, etc.). Two questions for you: 1. Can you do just water changes only (automatically or manually) without suctioning from the bottom of the tank? 2. When people are adding water back to the tank (when done automatically) are they not adding in the chlorine killer? I don’t see this happening in their video. Or, is this done automatically too? You have to add this to any water that goes in to the tank, correct? I hope you do a video to address this topic! Thank you!
Very good questions! 1) Many people do not gravel vac, especially with planted tanks. If they are more heavily stocked and detritus starts to accumulate it's still a good idea to remove the stuff from the bottom once in a while. 2) Yes, if the water is from a municipal source that adds chlorine they are adding dechlorinator at some point before or during the refill process.
I bought two of these lights from Corey at Aquarium Co-Op for my 125g African Cichlid tank. I love the lights. However....I'm still looking for the "magic" levels to make my tank look best. Any recommendations would be helpful with the 5 different light settings.
Hi! I have one of these lights and have a 10 gallon planted tank (rotala ro., anubias, pearl weed, lobelias cardinalis dwarf, Ludwiga narrow leaf), can you please advise what my settings should be? Thanks!
It's hard to say because it also depends on other factors like CO2, bioload and fertilization schedule. I would start higher and back off a little if you get excessive algae growth. The great thing about this light is you can adjust the intensity and not have to reduce the light duration!
they are expensive :O what light is your 2nd choice for growing plants and having bright clear looking water? my beamswork is not bright and the plants are not doing well
Thank you! This review helped me decide on these lights! But do these come with a mounting kit or do I need to buy one separately? If so, where can I get one?
I love the 3.0 especially the multiple time intervals. Could you share the settings that you used? I also had a similar issue with my low light plants.
Can you do a video about the Fluval 9 Gallon, 15 Gallon and I believe they now have a 32 Gallon. I have a Lobster Crawfish in a 5 gallon and was thinking about upgrading him to the 9 or 15 gallon Fluval. Thxs
Right now I reduced the intensity by 20% and I'm seeing what that does over a month or so. I prefer to make changes and wait a while for the tank to adjust slowly.
RJ Riz I have v.1.1.5 and trying to use the Pro Settings. It does not seem to turn off the light after my last timepoint set even though I have all the colors at zero percent?
Walter Lam do you have two times set at zero % for all colors? I have one time at 22:00, all colors at zero %, then another time at 08:00 at zero%. Then, at 08:30, I’ve applied percentages to different colors. I could try to send you a screenshot if that’ll help.
anyone able to say how this light has done over time? Setting up a new 75gal, and looking at my lighting options for low/medium light plants. Currently run AI Primes on other tanks, and they do well, just gets expensive to purchase multiples for one tank.
I’ve got the aquasky 48 and I’m happy with it, but I added more plants and CO2 recently and I’m looking at what the 3.0 will due for me and if it’s worth upgrading... the sky isn’t really able to adjust colors, only the brightness, if you set it to different colors it’s so dim it’s useless. I do love the day night automated cycle. I don’t care for the thunderstorm effect. I want my tank to grow plants and look natural... still not sure if it’s worth the upgrade especially since I’ve only had the sky for a few months... I think I’ll get the 3,0 at some point since I’m already invested in a decent CO2 setup....
$720 bucks in lights for 2 tanks? Yowza! Maybe for a high tech setup, but why spend the money and then have to lower the intensity to combat algae? Great video though. I'm sure the lights are awesome with the app and all that but I feel like there are better ways to spend a crazy amount of money. Thanks Jason :)
Both tanks are going to be seeing a lot more plants! : -) Well, at least the bottom 125. I may move the other two to another heavily planted tank when I re-scape one of the other 125s and put different lights on the Lake Tanganyikan tank.
I got the light but, programmed sunset wrong. IMPOSSIBLE to change ! Contacted fluval which wanted to know what type phone I had, serial number of light, date of purchase, place of purchase. While I was collecting info their email was deleted due to “ problems”. 😱
A combination of a few things, reducing the light to 60% max, the plants finally starting growing and doing a better job of competing for nutrients and in my bottom 125 - Florida Flag Fish!
I agree, but I really think the boxes got knocked around during shipping. I do a lot of research concerning customer reviews before I post review videos, and there are not an unusual number of people complaining about quality issues.

The FLuval is one of the higher-end LED lights. If that doesn't work probably nothing will.
I ordered one from Aquarium Co-Op I can not wait for it to arrive.
I think you will like it! :-)
I have two of the 48s on my 160 gallon. These lights are amazing! So simple to set up with the app.
Glad you like them too!
I do like this light AFTER adjusting the spectrum. The way I have it set is I have the big one over multiple nano tanks.
I feel the same way. I had way too much light going into my Lake Tanganyika tank, but it's getting dialed in. I like that we can do that!
Please suggest me a good waterproof light model for a 36" wide low-tech planted aquarium.

Was going to update my light on my 75 to 3.0
It will certainly give you all the light you need. : -)
i really want one for my 55 gallon
I have no idea which setting to use
You could start a little lower than full brightness? Maybe 70-80%
How did you get rid of your green hair algae. I'm fighting this stuff constantly
A combination of a few things, reducing the light to 60% max, the plants finally starting growing and doing a better job of competing for nutrients and in my bottom 125 - Florida Flag Fish!
This or the finnex planted+ alc
This has more features for sure.
Plants have soo many requirements and need such special attention......how easy it would be if algae were good to look at....
I think it depends on the plants. We really don't do a whole lot of any of the plants in our tanks. :-)
They are in the prime or kessel price range is my issue 200$ is a lot
Cut the blue light to cut the algae.
👍
2 out of 3 defective lights? Wow!
The four that we have had on there have worked great though!
👍👍😊🙏
way way way overpriced
I guess it just depends on what you are growing and the features you are looking for.
Just so long winded. Get on with it please
I like to be thorough - certainly not for everyone :-)
A 50% reliability factor does not sound all that "great" to me.
I agree, but I really think the boxes got knocked around during shipping. I do a lot of research concerning customer reviews before I post review videos, and there are not an unusual number of people complaining about quality issues.
I think it's because it's a long & light frame that's made to be lightweight. I didn't have any issues with the shorter version of this light.
