I got into him this year cause of melt my eyez. It’s one of if not my favorite album this year. I recently heard taboo and Zuu and realized what a great ear he has for beats. I put him up there with Big Krit in terms of quality music and being underrated.
Rumour has it that one time Oloff was sat next to Jar Jar Binks on a flight. Jar Jar kept kicking the chair in front of him and generally being obnoxious, nobody knew what to do. Eventually one of the flight attendants came over and asked Oloff if he would perform one of his songs to calm Jar Jar down, and when Oloff began rapping the first verse to Doing It Stealthy, Jar Jar immediately relaxed. To this day the two are still close friends.
Melt my eyez probably the most refreshing rap album I’ve heard in a very very long time. Creativity off the fucking charts the amount of pop culture references in the song is an Easter egg in of itself. As someone who loves Kurasawa films, the album made me watch his movies again and I’m talking a full marathon
Denzel has been my fav rapper since early 2022 when Walkin dropped. I was already listening to his songs before that, but never acknowledged him enough, until that song. It made me a huge fan. He should be up there with Kendrick and Cole or simply very close. This applies to a few other rappers like JID and Joey Bada$$. Denzel is one of only a handful of newer rappers I listen to. But even in saying that he's probably in my top 5 all time rappers. His flow and beats are top notch and can listen to him for hours on end.
denzel has said openly that he is aware of what he has cultivated: a catalogue where all of his full length releases are critically acclaimed. At a certain point he says realized what a gift that is and stopped focus on trying to blow up, because he really really really doesn't want to break the streak of great, acclaimed albums. Many artists much more successful as him cannot make the same claim, and denzel understands that this is what gives you a legacy in hip hop more then the commercial success of records. There's tons of #1 records that are forgotten a year after release, but denzel will keep putting out great projects that will stand the test of time. he didn't always, but now he knows exactly what he's doing. incidentally your vid left out something kinda big: Nostalgic 64 was HUGE in underground hip hop and that is what set the stage for 32 Zel/Planet Shroom.
Denzel talented, bro can rap for sure but there just isn’t much that stands out about him to put him in the spotlight. He flows well on songs but the flow itself has a generic lyrical sound. Anytime I think to listen to Denzel I just end up putting on Joey Badass instead, he’s generally got better production, his flows are more diverse and you can put him in almost any musical environment and he will thrive.
The line from Percs still applies to him to this day. He should be up there with Kendrick but nobody is realizing this. Everyone talks about Kendrick and Cole but Cole honestly shouldn’t be there. He’s good but Denzel is far better.
Long story short, denzel basically says that even thought there’s different sections of the album, “Everything that I see, yeah is Taboo.” On the light side of the Album, the opening line, “Welcome to the darker side of Taboo.” Which contradicts things, because taboo is everywhere.
My big gripe here is that there is no mention of Nostalgia 64. The step right after the raider klan tapes and pivoting into a full independent artist. Y’all- whoever reading this need to go peep that whole tape. Definitely sweeping the internet back then. I love seeing Denzel get his flowers. Good video.
Yeah if this was strictly a rise of type video I wouldve mentioned N64 because it is worth mentioning but me personally for this video was more so focusing on how curry became underrated

I appreciate the Lupe fiasco kick push song in the background
I love how we talk about underrated rapper while playing over a lupe beat! Mad respect!
Unlocked was his best album i remember i was in freshman year when unlocked came out now im a senior
I LITTLE OVER 5 YEARS?! Bro he’s been an underground GOAT since Nostalgic 64, that was 9 years ago.
I meant like as in to a mainstream audience... but I don't like N64 that much either
Melt my eyes is my favorite and most played album of the year
Denzel Curry's album is definitely in my top 5 best hip hop albums of 2022.
In my eyes he’s undefeated. Never released a single thing that wasn’t good
Denzel talented, bro can rap for sure but there just isn’t much that stands out about him to put him in the spotlight. He flows well on songs but the flow itself has a generic lyrical sound. Anytime I think to listen to Denzel I just end up putting on Joey Badass instead, he’s generally got better production, his flows are more diverse and you can put him in almost any musical environment and he will thrive.
I wish Joey and Denzel collabed more. They both got something that the other is missing
great video man, im always glad to see denzel get recognition as he’s easily a top 3 music artist for me
For sure... shoutout to Khaled
The line from Percs still applies to him to this day. He should be up there with Kendrick but nobody is realizing this. Everyone talks about Kendrick and Cole but Cole honestly shouldn’t be there. He’s good but Denzel is far better.
I genuinely never knew Denzel curry made ultimate so his music did a full circle for me because now I’m a huge fan of him
denzel been my favorite for years, absolute legend
Long story short, denzel basically says that even thought there’s different sections of the album, “Everything that I see, yeah is Taboo.” On the light side of the Album, the opening line, “Welcome to the darker side of Taboo.” Which contradicts things, because taboo is everywhere.
zillakami is underrated too, but his style of music is very specific so it's hard to reach a large audience for him
Also songs he’s doing in collab with other artists have been insane lately. His flow on GOATED. and on Talk about me were both insane
People gotta talk and listen to Curry’s music when he was in Raider Klan especially with the help of SpaceGhostPurrp I’m the real fan.
I honestly don't think he's underrated. He can come off as a corny rapper. He's in his spot.
His music gets millions of streams, he's had 4 songs hit the billboard, and this video essay exists about him. I would says he fits perfectly in the category of "rated".
Denzel has never hit the hot 100
@@KingBenny not 100 but top 200. Either way, his music is still highly recognized. I also didn’t do more than a google search to see which songs he has that hit billboard 200 so I’m not 100% about that.
@@theonlyphil4032 the 200 is rly not that hard to get into ngl
@@KingBenny yeah I know I looked at the website I just don’t know if it’s correct or not. Whatever tho
I gotta stop you right there, I’m at the 0:20 second mark and realized you said curry been putting out consistent work for 5 years.. this dude has been in the game for about 11 years now. I’ve been listening to him since he was 16 in Raider Klan. Please understand this has been a journey that has taken more than a decade. I shall continue with the video now
what I meant by 5 yrs at a high level is the popularity of him being high level (I know its not mainstream but not underground yknow)
JID....
Westside boogie....
Joey Bada$$...
The goats are becoming underrated
Joey not so much I wouldn't say... personally I think
