dj khaled seriously talked about his album being elevator music that you hear by accident and not by choice like thats the hallmark of great music. When music has to come to you to be heard, it's because its not the kind of music you'd ever go out looking for on your own.

@@sEdJ1281 I have no problem with heavily produced pop music or music that's made for the radio, but the way Khaled went about trying to invent a measurement for what 'great music' is up on the spot he just looked ridiculous. He said his album was 'great music' which he defined as "albums that you actually hear the songs" but thats kinda my whole problem with it - it's background music, stuff you don't really pay attention to as you buy groceries or get your hair cut. Igor on the other hand is very much made to be actively listened to, it just also happened to be great background music too, which is always a remarkable achievement. One of my favorite bands is Neutral Milk Hotel, and it's gotta be one of the worst albums you could ever try to use as background music. So not only did his whole take make him look like an obviously butt-hurt grown man whose having trouble convincing himself he's number one in the mirror every morning, he even managed to kind of tacitly insult his own album.

As a long time Tyler fan and former “weird”black kid, Igor meant so much to me, it’s like people finally saw what we were seeing the whole time. and you got to watch him literally grow up within the span of 3 albums which is something you don’t get with Khaled’s music, you get songs for clubs and background noise, not music you put on when you have a break up, remember your ex, pine for your crush, or just feel angry, Khaled didn’t understand that having songs you can always return to is equally if not more valuable then songs you hear that are “current year” music, not to mention how smartly Tyler used his features, he brings out the best in his features, not just make a beat that they can be on

Quality over quantity. Tyler spent this last decade growing and maturing into the artist we're seeing and appreciating now, while Khaled followed the same chart chasing formula in the same time. There's something to be said about the ability to get so many artists from so many different backgrounds to come together, but as far as music production goes, that's all I'm willing to give him credit for. The "weirdos" are winning and it's about time.

Tyler and OF as a whole are a huge part of the journey that I’ve had growing as an artist, for me at least it wasn’t long before I understood Tyler on a deeper level than the shock humor and such, and it wasn’t hard to either, Bastard was a very emotionally deep album, idk if maybe just a lot of people didn’t see it as such or just ignored any of the lyrics that weren’t “KILL PEOPLE BURN SHIT FUCK SCHOOL!”, but it was there if you allowed it to be heard for sure… he spoke of his issues with his father abandoning him from the jump, he spoke of his anxiety from the jump, he spoke of being misunderstood from the jump, it was all there.

There's nothing wrong with either kind or type of music. However to say Khaled's music is better is wrong. Music is something natural, it grows, changes, alternates and reflects how we are at the moment. This is why truly great music is timeless, it stays throughout generations, it is something that you listen to alone or with others and most importantly, it makes you emotional. This is why the greats have so much emotion, passion, and raw energy into the lyrics, the notes and mood of it all. Good music makes you pass the time. Khaled makes music that is of the moment in time that it is being made. This means he jumps on all the names and trends that he sees as the formula for success in a numbers game. To a certain extent this has worked and it is true for a certain demographic. As an artist or executive producer though you never see him be vulnerable or grow as an artist outside of what the pop scene is doing and how to jump onto it. Tyler on the other hand is making more personal music for himself and if others like it thats cool too. No doubt he is thinking of sales numbers as well but it is more a side thought and not the focus. Tyler will take risks to get his concept and art out there into the world, sometimes it works and other times not so much, but each time you feel you got a piece of who he is included in the project. He also makes a much more timeless album that you can return to, chill to, reflect on and even get turnt up to but no matter what his honesty and willingness to lose out on potential sales, awards or positioning to get his thoughts out really is what makes him one of the more interesting and compelling artists to watch currently.

What I thought was crazier was how Tyler responded with that podcast clip about Khaled not being number one even though his whole branding is that. Tyler understood Khaled and his branding but Khaled couldn’t understand Tyler’s ☠️

To answer DJ Khaled's question, when I get up in the morning I look in the mirror and I say I'm going to number two. Then I push a solid DJ Khaled song into the toilet.

5:17 Small addition: Getting famous on the internet was very much already a thing in 2010. Countless bands, artists and early content creators blew up on Myspace and UA-cam in the late 2000s, with Soulja Boy being one of the most prominent among them.

Yeah there’s two lessons in this from Tyler’s perspective don’t be afraid to take artistic risk as well as it that could affect being on the top by Tyler still went for it and it worked out for him, which gives me hope. And DJ Khaled to actually “BE HUMBLE” as he always just makes trendy music and once someone beats him to the top his whole “humble” image is broken and he can’t even practice what he preaches only for us to see it was really about ego.

Tbh this video really shows the importance of music. Igor had a massive impact on me, changed my life while Dj khaleds album was only an album some hits but mostly with boring songs on it which made me lose an hour and lose an hour.

The whole situation speaks to how something genuinely well made and thought out with real artistic value can outshine something made for the sole purpose of being popular (at about 4:08 Khaled literally admits that this is the thing he cares about most), no matter how much backing it may have.
