The New York Jets Quarterback Zach Wilson is living a complete and utter nightmare in 2022. The Jets are winning, but no thanks to him, he has become one of the NFL’s worst Quarterbacks, and he especially struggles when pressured. The pressure on him is higher than ever, but what he’s put on film shows that he doesn’t have what it takes. What are his struggles? And can they possibly be fixed? This week’s episode uses the all-22 coaches film to analyze New York Jets Quarterback Zach Wilson.

Dude is 4-1 as a starter. Really. Jets' fan base totally suck. "Playing under pressure" is what Zach is ALWAYS doing as the front line can't pick up a stunt or blitz.

Even when he has a clean pocket he's often looking at a pass rusher who is being blocked 2 steps away. He is too slow processing information, doesn't trust what he sees, is looking for pressure before it's there, misses easy throws and throws the ball up for grabs under pressure. But how about those arm slots he can throw from?

He still is 4-1 last 5 starts. Many predicted the Jets to be winless at this point of the season. I know he has looked horrible but so did Josh Allen, Peyton Manning, Troy Aikman, Eli Manning..the list goes on. ( I am not comparing him to Josh Allen) I think what is wrong with Wilson is mostly fixable. He is a hard worker and has all of the tools. You can get better at reading defenses and decision making. You can't learn to be mobile or have a great arm. He can make all of the throws. The Jets still have a terrible OL with all of these injuries, he is constantly under pressure and so far he has not responded positively. I have faith in him, I really do.

My best hope for him, Andy Reid always has a soft spot in his heart for BYU guys IE- why he stuck with Daniel Sorenson as long a she did... You know that QB pocket presence drill where some coaches constantly slap their quarterback with pool noodles while they're throwing to at least get their QB accustomed to getting hit? The Jets need to have Zach Wilson do that drill for hours on end. Granted a pool noodle is obvioulsy not the same or as terrifying as a 245 pound linebacker running full speed at you, but it will at least help him develop a little poise and courage in the pocket. Have him processing routes under pressure while staying in the pocket. And if those type of drills don't improve him, you know you've made the wrong pick and it's time to move on.

Balls die on him or sail because he relies only on his arm. Especially when throwing on the run, his torso won't even be facing the right direction most of the time to allow him to torque his body to generate enough power. Everything below the arm/shoulder is more responsible for generating velocity than the arm itself.
Watch Mahomes, Rodgers, Geno, heck even watch Fields, when they throw on the run they twist their torsos into position so they can twist their torso with the throw. Zach Wilson is trying to rifle balls in but his mechanics are more like a fadeaway.
Don't get me wrong, I seen guys like Mahomes and Rodgers do all kinds of fadeaways, but they do it when they know they have an open window in range so they are comfortable throwing a touch or lob type pass in there as a fadeaway. Zach Wilson is not trying to do a touch pass, so he whips his arm hard asf to makeup for the lack of power from his waist down, causing wild inaccuracy and ducks. He loses what natural accuracy he has by relying on his arm to defy physics.

    - Don't miss easy 3 yard designed throws and hit them in stride. There is no pressure when making those.
    - Use your athletic ability to pick up some first downs so offense has some continuity. He runs 50 yards E-W but even with no defender around doesn't pick up 2-3 yards for 1st down
    - Set your feet man before throwing. Even when he reads the coverage and knows where to go, if he is moving around, he misses the target.

So far this season, the Jets haven't had the same 5 guys starting on OL two games in a row; every week they've been plugging in at least one new person. That's why you see him running for his life sometimes, there are some plays where guys are running free unblocked. Lack of competition is not a fair thing to say. Even guys that went against good competition are busts. Sam Darnold, Baker Mayfield, etc.

GMs are enamored with mobility and big arms, but if you can't process information quickly, make the routine throws with consistency and protect the ball the "off schedule" plays aren't going to save you.
