- In this video, Hugo is sharing his (long) experience on how to pair your shoes with your suits (which is probably one of the most often asked questions on this channel).
For this purpose he takes advantage of the collaboration Sartorial Talks and Parisian Gentleman launched a few days ago with the famous shoemaker TLB Mallorca and shows how to pair 5 magnificent Spectator Oxfords shoes with 5 bespoke suits.

The title may appear simple, but the extensive knowledge you're sharing with us is helping us all to advance sartorially!
Thank you so much for your kind words. Hugo
Most classy promotion ever. But you had me at "we designed a shoe"
Dear Gerhard, these shoes are truly spectacular, comfortable and almost out of this world in terms of value. We are very proud of this collaboration. All my best, Hugo
Watching this video is like going back to school, only this time with the best teacher in the world, congratulations Hugo
Wow that's a strong statement Miguel! Thank you very much for your kind words, Hugo
I love Hugo's passion to style. Cheers🥂
🥂 Cheers to you! Hugo
Congratulation Hugo....to know that we are getting a shoe design by someone who has a passion and love for shoes and menswear it is truly a gift!
Merci JR. And the gift is also the extreme quality of TLB's and the stellar customer service. Bonne année! Hugo
Dear Hugo,
Your explanations are just remarquable and the the way you describes how to pair shoes with suits is just fine and admirable. You manage to make things simple and audible for common people who desire to rise themself.
Thank you for your Passion and keep up the good work...!
Merci cher Olivier et meilleurs voeux à vous et vos proches. Hugo
Those spectator shoes are a brilliant idea. Well done. I’ll definitely consider buying a pair, love the golden brown colour. You’ve made an eclectic shoe quite accessible.
Dear Michael, we are extremely happy with the design, the quality (TLB has a huge reputation for that) but also the comfort. These are shoes, if well maintained, that will last a lonnnngggg time. And yes the gold brown is an excellent and versatile choice. Treat yourself my friend and please don't hesitate to drop an email to Toni (info@tlbmallorca.com) for any need of advice and guidance. Cheers, Hugo
Just got mine. Got a dark navy suit that'll Pair nicely with these. Thank you Hugo for designing these shoes.
Good news for you; hope you're enjoying and thanks for watching ! Hugo
Watching this while waiting for UPS to deliver my new pair of TLB artistsa suede loafers today. Excellent timing, and as usual, an excellent episode. Many many thanks Hugo and Sonya for all the wonderful advice you freely give. Best wishes from the UK.
Lucky man! I have a pair of TLB artista suede loafers and I adore them. Best wishes from the Holy Land of wine (Bourgogne). Hugo
Hugo's tastes & style constantly impress.
What we all really love is to see Afsana finally hit the like button first. This was great Hugo again. Thanks 🙏
Yes Afsana, you did it! Hugo
Hello Hugo i was so very impressed with the line of spectator shoes you designed that i ordered a pair of the black on black! I just fell in love with these shoes, you are the king and a great inspiration to us all! Keep up the great work my friend! Ron Hallas
Congratulations Ron, I'm so happy for you. You'll wear these beauties for many many years. and thank you for you kind words. All my best, Hugo
Congratulations on the new collaboration!
👏👏🙏
Many thanks Steve! Hugo
Articulate. Eloquent. Illustrative. A real upper echelon reserve you are Mr. Hugo. Love from East Africa! Oh yes your influence reaches this far too! 😀.
Many thanks Carlton for your very kind words of encouragement. Happy 2021, Hugo
My good sir
It's been a while since I've tuned in
Must I say, you are a gem
What passion
What sincerity
What a shoe
Very kind, thanks so much! Hugo
Very elegant and casual at the same time Hugo my friend. Thank you for the inspiration!
You are more than welcome Patrick! Hugo
Hugo, those shoes are beatiful, and I really love your last outfit, I would'nt change a thing! My next pair of shoes will be from TLB, as I'm from Spain myself and I'll wear them very proudly. Cheers to you and Sonya!
Cheers amigo! We love Spain so much (for the wine, the Bellota, the Olive oil and the shoes, among many other things). Hugo & Sonya
Sartorial Talks, the gold standard! Thank you for the heads up on the size conversion chart at TLB. I have been wanting to step up my shoe game for some time now. I comfortably wear a B width in Allen Edmonds. I will reach out to TLB. Beautiful suit shoe pairings! Thanks for sharing.
You are very welcome Arthur and I'm sure Toni at TLB will help you. Cheers, Hugo
Even though i cannot afford a quality suit i still watch all your videos. 🤗(Light shoe with light color suits, dark shoes with dark suits...got it.)
You are very welcome my friend. Thank you so much, Hugo
BRAVO HUGO.......I AM IN LOVE WITH THE BLUE.......GREAT PRICE ALSO
THESE IS NOT NEGOTIABLE...YOURS SHOES HAS TO BE IMPECCABLE
I agree the blue ones are incredible (and so comfortable). Cheers my friend, Hugo
A really strong, passionate presentation today Hugo. Unstoppable - Like a galleon in full sail. The black shoes look really intriguing - black’s usually very uninteresting and too formal so it’s a real innovation. Congratulations on your new collaboration.
Thank you Nathan! Yes the black on black spectator is absolutely gorgeous and much more versatile than a simple black Oxford. The "twist" with the difference of texture between the high quality suede and the box calf brings a new wind to the shoe. Extremely interesting model for sure (and sooo comfortable). My best, Hugo
Indeed....itching to get that black beauty.
@@rajkrish9347 Treat yourself my friend. At this price for this extreme quality it's a good investment that will last long years. All my best, Hugo
Glenn check is so classic and so awesome!
Thank you for your experience and advice.
That 3 piece grey suit is a work of art
Thank you Arent. It's a bespoke suit (by way tailor Cifonelli) from 2010 (11 years ago!). Cheers, Hugo
The video I’ve been waiting for. Good point about the “main attraction” being the person and not the shoes. I see a lot of images on the Internet of men wearing dark blue suits or trousers with light brown shoes. People will just stare at the shoes. That being said, I “broke the rule” earlier this week but was able to pull it off: My light brown shoes matched the rust color of my sweater so that brought a little balance to my outfit.
Thanks, Hugo and Sonya!!
You are absolutely right my friend, it's all a question of balance. Yours, Hugo
Very nice to see you pulling of the 'cocktail/neapolitan' cuff on your shirt. Looks very smart.
Thanks Thomas. I usually call these "Portofino cuffs". Cheers, Hugo
Beautiful shoes ! The latest get brown would go best with white or off white suits
Yes indeed! Beautiful and versatile shoes. Hugo
Taking a rather flamboyant shoe (if I may) and turning it subtly elegant falls right under the mantra you have been promoting in this channel. Never thought I would I like a pair of spectator shoes but I absolutely love the Gold Brown version. God bless on all your future collaboration and keep up the amazing work!
I am SO glad to read this as this was exactly our goal: make those beautiful spectators discreet and wearable (and affordable for this kind of extreme quality). And according to your message, we didn't miss our goal. THANK YOU Kris, Hugo & Sonya (and Toni for TLB).
I have 2 pairs of these shoes on order ironically...looking forward to them coming!! For those interested these are last #173...I have the gold / brown ones coming and my other pair is a pair of Artista 110's, which are a wingtip Oxford in Navy with Redenbach soles...Can't wait!!!
Just a quick follow-up---are you happy with your shoes at this point. Hope so! Cheers, Hugo
@@SARTORIALTALKS Hi Hugo, I hope that you and Sonya are both well! Yes, I am very happy with the shoes I ordered and am likely to order more at some point as the quality / price ratio is impressive! I also want to thank both you and Sonya for the books that you have authored and been involved with! I have 'The Parisien Gentleman', 'The Italian Gentleman' and also 'Shoes - The Art of Male Footwear' and have greatly enjoyed them. Although much of what is shown is beyond my budget, I can still very much appreciate the content and also the dedication, passion, expertise, honour and intergrity that you both bring to the subject of sartorial matters - Thank you both again you are very much appreciated!
Always a pleasure to see new videos.
Always a huge pleasure to shoot and publish them! Cheers, Hugo
These shoes look absolutely amazing. Very well done!
Many thanks ! Hugo
"Dark on dark, light with light" ...I never knew that, thank you.
Glad to read your reply! Hugo
10 out of 10 my friend, simply dashing! Have been pairing spectators for decades especially after the film 'La Grande Bellezza' . Your slightly more subdued interpretation is very elegant but adventurous at the same time, bravo! Your adoption of a cocktail cuff white shirt is reminiscent of Mr.Bond and Anthony Sinclair of Conduit Street, London, tres bien joue Hugo, splendide, Michel.
Merci beaucoup Michel pour vos encouragements. Amicalement vôtre, Hugo
That black spectator will be very useful in summer days or during dry season in tropical countries.
Indeed, I agree ! Hugo
Beautiful collaboration!!! I hope this is the first of many.
Yes my friend, this is indeed the first of many. Next one will be about cashmere sweaters and cardigans. Incredible products. Stay tuned! Hugo
Very nice design shoes. I especially like the black ones. Also a brown leather with dark blue suede will be a beautiful combination
Thanks Rob, the black on black are surprisingly versatile indeed! I even wore it this afternoon with a pair of dark Japanese selvedge denims, and it worked incredibly well. Cheers, Hugo
This video was really fantastic and replete with very useful information. The shoes are beautiful, especially the light brown ones. And the very fair price even includes lasted shoe trees and free shipping! Hugo and Sonya never disappoint and I enjoy their passion! Cheers!
Thank you John! I hope you'll be able to acquire a pair because these shoes are fantastic and extremely fairly priced for this kind of high quality (direct from the factory). Best wishes for 2021. Hugo
@@SARTORIALTALKS Hugo, I agree. However, when COVID-19 hit the US last year, Cobbler Union made an appeal for help, so I supported them in a big way and have exhausted my shoe budget for now. I will recommend this TLB opportunity to some friends and I’m sure I’ll be able to purchase future PG shoe collaborations.
@@jbr2 You're a good man John. All my best wishes to you. Hugo
I absolutely love the grey Glen Plaid peak lapel suit with the navy blue Spectators, the peak lapels are high 👌
Thanks Chris, although I have steered away from lapels that seem too high, unlike in my earlier sartorial years. Cheers to you, Hugo
Spectators of course. Beautiful for sure. You make me smile.
Good to know, thanks ! Hugo
Good camera work Sonya :) we missed you. The three piece gray suit with black shoes is very nice Hugo. Cheers!
Grazie Davide. Hugo & Sonya
Love your channel!!! So elegant and classic!
So very glad to read this. Cheers ! Hugo
Congratulation on the collaboration Hugo. Very beautiful shoes indeed. Hoping you will design more beautiful shies in the future. All the best - Hairol
That's the plan Hairol! We already have many collaborations lined up (cashmere sweaters and cardigans, rust pocket squares, jackets). All my best wishes for 2021. Hugo
Fantastic, looking at the TLB website now. Thanks Hugo.
Well, you turned me on to quality shoes, so much so that my wife has taken to calling me "Immelda" I rarely wear a suit (maybe I need a better job), but I love pairing shoes to suits almost as experimenting with ties and shirts. That chocolate brown suit with the gold tie was inspiring.
I hear you Robert! And yes this dark brown model is incredibly attractive (and affordable for this kind of quality). Cheers (and my regards to your wife). Hugo
Excited to see more from this series!
Thanks Raphael! Cheers, Hugo
Perhaps you can make a video about men’s grooming with formality? Such as hair, nails, and beard. And discuss levels of formality.
Hugo,, u r the real boss. Thanks to you and Sonya
Thank you Ankur, you're too kind! Hugo
Another great video. Properly pairing shoes with suits sounds easy until you see how many people are doing it wrong, myself included...✌
Thanks Jerry for your kind comment. Happy 2021! Hugo & Sonya
Incredible.The classy Hugo! Salute!
Thank you my friend. Salute! Hugo
Still thinking about this amazing set of spectators!
Man you're the man. I am James bond style fan. You have won me over. 👍😃
Very kind, thank you so much ! Hugo
Your passion is inspiring!
Thank you David, I appreciate. Cheers, Hugo
Beautiful shoes!
I love the slim waists. Great lasting!
As do I -- cheers to you and thanks ! Hugo
Amazing shoes, amazing suits and amazing video. Congratulations from Portugal. By the way, I love the Carlos Santos shoes.
Many thanks José. Cheers! Hugo
Absolutely gorgeous shoes - all of them. The black on black though .... ga ga!
I agree, the black on black is great. We are so happy with the result! Cheers, Hugo & Sonya
This is so helpful!
Majorca now no longer just famous for Rafa Nadal...and and and! Those light, golden brown numbers sang to me!
Dear Henry, these are spectacular shoes indeed (and the quality is outstanding for the price). I hope you'll be able to enjoy them one day or another. All my best, Hugo
Nice shoes ,i ´d prefer the Edward Green ones with their classic British round toe shape though. They are ones to rule them all imo.Keep up the good work ,take care and stay safe.
The Green model is of course very nice, but twice the price (and for the same kind of quality, same league at least). Cheers, Hugo
The shoes all look wonderful. But that Glen Plaid (?) sport jacket is awesome!
I'm excited to hear about that Yeossal collaboration in the future! I am expecting one of their shirts and safari jackets next week, gotta try their shoes at some point!
Dear Raphael, Yeossal is the epitome of the new sartorial entrepreneurs. We work with them on pure Cashmere mock neck sweaters and cardigans. Incredible products at extremely fair prices. Stay tuned! Hugo
@@SARTORIALTALKS Wow didn't see that coming, so that's why i see hugo liking a lot of yeossal's post in instagram, i also think they are great. I'm also excited if hugo's collaborating with them in the future.
Love 3,4,5 looks but would prefer the 5th trousers were in dark green moss corduroy pants in winter with mustard coloured suit.
This exactly what I needed. Shoes are my weakness 😂.
Happy to read this Joey. And please take a look at those shoes, their value is probably among the best on the planet. Cheers, Hugo
@@SARTORIALTALKS Thank you Hugo! Cheers!
Great content as always! And these are beautiful shoes, congratulations!
Many thanks Tokiomi! Hugo
Thank you Hugo that was a very nice video I liked the way you put the shoes and suits together.
Very happy to read and thanks for watching. Hugo
Very nice shoes and interested to see the side split on the cuff of the trousers. I'd never seen this before. I'd love some tips on how to clean/polish shoes with the contrast leather or suede without cross 'contamination' with product.
Dear friend, here is a great article on that subject by our friends at Herring: blog.herringshoes.co.uk/2015/how-to-polish-a-calf-and-suede-shoe/
And you'll see it's not that complicated. He requires just a little bit more care and focus, but bi-material specs are so beautiful that they are worth the effort. Cheers, Hugo
i just love it, you are the best!!!!!!!
I will order one or two pair, great job!!!!
Dear Benjamin, I believe this limited edition is over but you can still drop an email to TLB (and ask for our limited edition). I'm sure they'll help you. Cheers, Hugo
@@SARTORIALTALKS Thank you Hugo, i will contact them.

Very elegant and chic collection of shoes,,they are truly outstanding ,Congratulation my friend, and i totally agree with you about breaking rules sometimes)))))), stay save, Love to you & Sonya from Cairo.
Thank you Nader! I hope you are doing well. Much love from Bourgogne France. Hugo
Great episode and I'll take a peak at your shoe designs on TLB Mallorca. Yes, there are fashion rules. But, there are times when they can and SHOULD be broken. But you got to know when. And thank you for touching on that little known fact about button colors. It's just a natural thing for me to look at that and think "How would that combine with other clothes?". I think brown buttons in a blue or navy suit allows for more flexibility with pant or shoe colors. Lastly, I love that sweater. The design reminds me of the 1920s. If you look at the 1981 award winning movie, Chariots of Fire, which is based in 1920's England, you will see similar styled sweaters. I think it looks bold, stylish and elegant.
New to the channel. Fantastic advice about the buttons. An overlooked aspect of dress.
Welcome in our community! And yes, buttons are simple but important details (that can uplift or ruin any outfit). Cheers, Hugo
I like those shoes, they are wonderful, this is a very successful collaboration!! I’m just concerned about the difficulty of the care. Box calf + suedes is a little challenging to care the two types of leather without risking damaging one or another
I completely agree.
Dear Antony, not really. It requires slightly more care but not that much. On top of that, Suede needs less care in the long run. I thought the same years ago, but now, with experience, I can tell you it's not an issue (as long as you are cautious of course). Hugo
Fantastic
Many thanks Derrick! All my best, Hugo
I always love to see his insights
Very nice to read. Thanks ! Hugo
Great advice! Thank you again Hugo!

I have noticed that there isn't an option on the PG blog to see articles by year. I started to read the articles one by one by year and now I can't continue. Could you bring that back?
Thank you very much, Hugo. Very interesting and inspiring video. I was wondering if you could do the same thing with trousers and blazers?
You mean a collaboration or a video on how to pair them ? All my best, Hugo
@@SARTORIALTALKS Looking forward t o a video on how to pair them. I would really appreciate that, because I love and respect your view to style. Thanks, Brian
Awesome video! Love it!
What a great video! Thank you , can I also add that comfort is extremely important in footwear or you definitely can't carry yourself properly!
You are absolutely right my friend, and TLB is precisely well know for the extreme comfort of its shoes. All my best, Hugo
Hugo, you say your shoes are square-toed, and maybe they are slightly, but they look round-toed on screen. Are they easy to polish on the smooth leather portion?
I loved your shirt cuffs 👌
Me too 😊! The name of these cuffs varies depending on the shirtmaker, but these one are called "portofino". Cheers, Hugo
Beautiful! All the shoes...think about adding a burgundy. Best!
Somehow it has evolved a view that black shoes would only be appropriate for gooms men and pallbearers ( hmm. . . one and the same?), I am glad you made mention of dark brown shoes with dark suits. I see tan shoes flashing about town as if they were out for a walk on their own.
😂 😂 you are sooo right my friend!! Hugo

Hugo I see you wearing this tie a lot and I love it where did you find it
In the 1800s the whole of the area in Mayfair where Saville Row was situated was actually farmland so it’s understandable how the no brown in town rule was relevant then! Lols
Yes Ian, you're right! Cheers my friend, Hugo
Let's match shoes & suits! :)
Yes sir let's do it! Hugo
Insightful and well-thought out video as always. I'm not sure if you've tackled this extensively before, but I wanted to get your take on the opposite end of an outfit from shoes, hats.
They've recently piqued my interest because current global circumstances have prevented many people from going to their barbershops and salons, and I've seen some turn to hats to hide a bit of overgrowth or unkempt hair.
I was wondering if you had any tips or notions on how they can be used in an outfit to play with color, proportions, textures, etc., though this could probably take up the length of a whole new video.
Dear Richard, I am far from an expert on hats, although I have one Panama hat. Sonya did a show on hats that is pretty comprehensive. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance but great point of how nice it is to have a hat when the hair is not in the best condition. Cheers, Hugo
Great content , shows look beautiful
Many thanks James. Hugo
I read the article in your website. I am having a conversation on sizing. Due to the distance of the shipping to me. I love the blue version. I am just concerned that I don't have enough brown shoes yet so I think the head rules the heart.
