    What's your go to shoe + suit (or dress pant) combo?

      I only have 2 pair of dress shoes. A pair of black oxfords and dark brown double monk straps which I pair with black , charcoal and navy pants & suits …

      I think the most common combo is the black ( or blue) suit with the black shoes

      Oxblood and dark brown shoes are by far the most versatile. I think there's a difference between a polished shoe and suede as well. My black suede looks far far blacker than a polished black shoe, especially in photos. Tan shoes are good for light coloured suits and chinos.

    I'm sure my age (70) has rendered me "not trending", but I'm not about to change now. I agree on your color matches, but I absolutely despise those trouser lengths which leave you and your models looking like they're waiting for high-tide to roll in. Give me a proper break in the cuff any day, and one day "classic" will be trending once more! Thanks for the interesting thoughts and tips though! 👍

      I’m 37, and I believe classic will always be in style-regardless of the current fad. I wear a more slim pant, but want one break with my fitted look. I don’t think exposing ankles/sockless look is completely unattractive, I’m just not sold that it is my look.

    Great video! Black shoes with light blue suit makes it look like the black pair is the only pair of dress shows you own. I agree on a dark brown/black two shoe as minimum and light brown only if you have a number of light color summer style outfits.

    Very good video. My first pair of dress shoes I bought after deciding to get into men's style, was a pair of light tan brogues. Light tan dress shoes seemed to be all the rage on the UA-cam style channels in 2018. They sit on my shelf now year around and barely ever get worn. These light tan brogues only seem to work with light tan pants, light blue jeans, light grey or light green jeans, and not much else. It also helps to repeat the light tan color in the belt and watch strap. But yeah, light tan shoes are not that versatile. Thank you Brock for confirming what I thought.

    I’ve had a pair of burgundy Cole Haan Oxfords for a decade and they have been great. I wear them with charcoal and grey and it’s a sharp combination, nice to know I could add a navy suit and still wear them. Burgundy belts aren’t as common so that’s one downside.

    So in the event you’re wearing a pants and a blazer, I’m guessing you’d want to follow similar rules based on the pants , and of course the pants still need to contrast with the blazer.

    • @canadafree2087

      Yes, and unless you like bold socks, you want socks to be closer to the pants color than the shoe. You don't need to match entirely, but having the sock the same color as your shoe makes it look more like a boot at quick glance.

    It's weird because tan shoes I think look great with dark blue trousers, for example jeans. They also work well with olive green trousers IMO, brown trousers, and I think even black casual trousers. But if you're wearing a full navy or indigo suit, olive suit, it just looks weird with light tan shoes. I think it's about levels of formality, for that reason I think you can wear a dark blue or dark green suit with tan shoes if it's a tweed suit. I think it's because I live in the UK and in my head light tan brogues are a very "countrified" style of shoe

    So in a day gone by, someone woke up and after rolling their duvet into a roll decided that all the men across planet earth must not wear black shoes with a blue suit but brown. And furthermore, the belt must also be brown and even furthermore, the strap on the watch must also be brown. What tosh. If all the men did this it would look like a staff uniform. Hey Brock! So for Charcoal Grey lightweight Wool slacks should I invest in Medium or Dark Brown Wingtip oxfords? My Sanborn Tan Captoe Oxfords tend to go well with my heather Grey Wool trousers since they're both lighter shades. Thanks for the content! • @aPixelcoffee
      @aPixelcoffee Рік тому +2

      If the slacks are charcoal, go for dark brown shoes. Brock makes the same recommendation at 2:55. Medium browns *can* work, too, but are harder to pull off. So if you don't want to overthink it, go for dark brown.

    • @Manuel421
      @Manuel421 Рік тому

      @@aPixelcoffee I appreciate it thank you. How about Cognac? It's a Reddish Brown shade rather than a complete Brown. My Cognac loafers look fine with them though. I'll definitely consider Dark Brown though for future reference. Once in awhile I'll break some style rules but it can get really tough with slacks.

    • @aPixelcoffee
      @aPixelcoffee Рік тому +1

      @@Manuel421 Well, cognac really shines most when paired with lighter colors like itself. Think light grey flannel oder a summery shade of bright blue tropical wool. Olive or khaki chinos will also look great with it.
      But hell, those are just rules. You're absolutely right in breaking them. Dark blue jeans clash so gracefully with cognac shoes, for example. Or navy chinos, that contrast just makes any outfit pop. Just remember to keep the rest subtle, then. Especially when you're experimenting with bold styles. It's like Coco Chanel once said: Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off.

      I would choose based upon the color of the shoes/boots. I would choose any dressy shoes or boots in the brown range, or burgundy/oxblood, or navy.
      Spectators and dress boots are a bit more on the casual side (compared to Oxfords or derbies), so they might not be the optimal choice for very dressy occasions.
