You are a great example of what bushcraft is all about. You didn't know EVERYTHING about knife making,or the "technical terms" for knifes. What you did do is actually do something! You were not an armchair bushcrafter. You got up and made a GREAT handle for your knife. Props to you my friend! Props to you.
I have found out that a course belt from a beltgrinder works just fine if you use it manually, even better than a file. you have much better control of the shape, the process is ouf course more laborious than it would be if you used the powered tool itself
Yeah, initially the end grain will soak up a lot more oil. It isn't a bad thing though! You WANT oil to penetrate into the wood. After about a year, the face of the grain should be about as saturated as the end grain (if you do a decent job with oiling it)
Thanks happy! I was really happy with the grain as well. This is actually a split piece of wood that I chiseled out and then glued back together with the blade inside. My early videos show a bit of the process.
Thanks a lot! I forget how long it was exactly, a few inches I think. The wood I'm not sure of either, as I got it from a family member as scrap. but i think it was cherry.
but how did you drill the hole into the handle of a solid piece of wood. Usually the handle for this type of knife (because it tapers) is made of different pieces of wood.. In other words how did you know the handle was going to be on so tight that you knew the blade wouldn't fall out of the handle??? P.S. Beautiful looking knife!!!!
Dude Bro Thanks a lot! I cut the wood in half and cut out a little reservoir for the tang and the epoxied the halves together. Here is the video, its a bit long but it has the process ua-cam.com/video/7QDvMUUAcks/v-deo.html

Thanks man. I say go for it, once you get started you'd be surprised how quickly you can remove wood.
That's some beautiful work man. Keep it up
Thanks a lot man!
nice job buddy looks good

btw all that uneven coloring actually makes the handle look really nice.

Looks great. Like the way the grain of the wood looks. how did you insert the handle? Drill it out and use epoxy?

Hey I really like it, what kind of wood? And gave me a great idea, also how long was the tang? Great vid!
