      I'm really impressed how the colour and the texture of the wooden handle changed after you dipped into that oil 🛢. Beautiful Knife Dennis! Keep up the good work 👏

      @@roastntoast7550 thank you for the comments and the encouragement. yes, i knew the color would come alive when i dipped it thats why i made that a focus in the video. i love natural wood. thanks for loyally following along, take care my friend.

    I found out not to over compress also. Expansion later on outdoors. Leaving some space for glue also.I slotted bottom, with a shim filler. Just a bit o fitnfinish to get it in, but close to touch slot. A lot for old hands with hickory flooring. 0pinol rounding out for finger space for nail nick was so easy. Softer wood by far!

    I think that stainless wont throw a spark from flint ,and rocks like carbon does ,not ferrocerium. I believe that this is the correct theory if im not mistaken. Great project .God bless you and your family . Lee

      thanks Tony, the oil will penetrate and it will have to be repeated from time to time. there is a process for making the wood almost plastic, i may try later. i am a pretty traditional guy and like the old time linseed oil look though. LOL thanks for watching.

    Great craftsmanship Dennis. You’re editing, music and detail in this video was real nice. Someone could learn how to do this themselves after watching this.

      thanks buddy. you always give me great comments. thanks for the encouragement. i did miss a couple of steps, i will cover them later. heads up to my loyal subscriber, i will be making more knives like that for give-a-ways real soon. im going to keep that one because i think thats the method i want to stick with, i want to use one myself for a while. ive been wondering and hopeful that youve been ok. ive been anticipating something from you adventure catalog.
      i also wanted to mention, there are a lot of people who make knives with premade blades. i thought maybe someone could get some encouragement/ideas from my experience.

    Well done 👌.
    Though in all fairness, I'm a fan of the Mora knife as it is, with the polypropylene/rubber handle. Nice and grippy.
    But it's great to see you make a well made handle for it at the same time.

    • @orionoutdoorsandworkshop5617
      @orionoutdoorsandworkshop5617  2 роки тому +1

      thank you my friend. Mora also sells the blades for people who want to make knives. yes, the stock handle is grippy and also part of the structure, as you saw in the video. i just think they are not too pretty and look kind of cheap. considering how good the blades are, they come wicked sharp too, they deserve to be nice looking as well as functional.. i have 6 more new blades and will be building those as well. thanks for watching my videos bud. making sheath this week.

      Yes, I might be different regarding this. I know of people preferring wood on handles.
      I like the looks of the Mora as it is 😁.
      I'm not much into the classic handle looks. And I've had negative experiences with wood.
      I really appreciate the synthetic handles.And rubber.
      As on other tools as well. Be it screwdrivers, hammers etc.
      The blades are really good indeed.
      I will be watching the the handles and sheaths you make.
      It's nice to see craftmanship.

    So why dont you just buy a blade and save your self a lot of work

    • @orionoutdoorsandworkshop5617
      @orionoutdoorsandworkshop5617  Місяць тому +1

      i have bought many blades. i invite you to watch more of the videos posted on my channel. some of the mora blades were more expensive to buy than the whole mora knife! this mora was CHEAPER to buy than any blade (9 bucks) i could find and i also do not like the generic soul less appearance of a mora knife. the handle ergonomics were way uncomfortable for me and i wanted to try making a knife. i also have done this to show that it can be done and my method of doing it. thank you for watching and for your question. please view some of my other knife projects. take care.
