    Great video guys , love the technical detail , and banter. Enjoying the paint work and animation of the kia bodywork , looks and appears classy , expensive and super well finished off. The virtual ball suspension is particularly intriguing , i get the theory , but how the hell is the hub able to rotate when two seperate links supporting it. At some point in the future , if could turn the steering when a vehicle is up on the lift , to see how the steering geometry moves , would be fascinating , with close up shots. Quality control is very good on the Kia , like Kevin points out. ❤

      If you have pinboard (or just a piece of scrap plywood or cardboard) and some bit of paper and pins, you can build a model of the arms and hub carrier (as seen from above or below) and watch how it moves as you steer the hub. It's a little weird, but it works as long as the two arms pivot very close together on the hub carrier.

    Great analysis of an amazing EV platform which spearheaded the industry in terms of technology for money. The EV9 is a good vehicle with some viable changes to the platform which seem to fit the nature of the vehicle nicely.
    Looking forward where Hyundai/KIA can take this platform with the rumored update coming in late 2026.

      KIA/Hyundai/Genesis very CRAPPY e-Gimp platform is still too much ICE vehicle Based.
      the e-Gimp was originally to have a ICE, Hybrid ,FCEV and BEV versions, on same Platform.
      the e-Gimp has too many FASTNERS and too many Brackets holding more Brackets.
      the e-Gimp Platform is Already OUTDATED in 2024.

    Concerning "Wheel Talk" starting at about the 5:30 mark, it does seem like a waste to put a wheel cover over a painted wheel. What if the manufacturer uses this same wheel, in significant numbers, minus the cover, in another application? Isn't there some savings to realize by not having another part number for a non-painted wheel? Please enlighten me.

    • @wtmayhew

    Interesting. There’s a lot of conventional looking engineering in the EV9. I’m curious how Hyundai/Kia’s per unit profit compares to a Tesla Model Y. Tesla’s gone all in modernizing production technology, so how much cost does thst take out? Tesla just cut prices again, so aI’m wondering if that reflects lower manufacturing cost, or is Tesla cutting margins attempting to keep market share?

      The level of production modernization came at great upfront cost. It pays off when they're able to sell at lot of Model Y's, but times are finally changing. They've already cut back production and will likely need to cut production back further, increasing unit costs. I'd guess they're margins are growing quite tight, especially with how frantically they're changing demand tactics and trying to sell software subscriptions. Frankly, thinks aren't looking great for Tesla as of late, especially after they put the "$25k" model on hold.

      Lots of cars have those. They're mostly to hold the brake rotor in place on the assembly line. They can be left out afterwards (e.g. if they break, or if the head has to be drilled out to remove it ... been there, done that). The brake rotor is still well clamped between the wheel and hub, and it isn't going to escape.

      This isn't that kind of review. Like other KIA videos they have done, Munro has shown that KIA isn't wasting money on R&D and cutting edge manufacturing techniques when they don't have to. They have proven their reliability and they build on that. Instead they are putting the money into customer-facing qualities like beautiful design, lush interior, and detailed paint. KIA has a reputation of making the most efficient EVs (which this clearly won't be), with high customer satisfaction, high reliability, and super long factory warantees. Basically, KIA has a very conservative approach when it comes to manufacturing and an aggressive approach when it comes to design. Although their sister company Hyundai is even more aggressive when it comes to design language. And is there really anything even remotely like this in the competition right now? That alone may make it worth the sticker price (which is sure to be large) for some buyers. And if you choose the Hyunudai version for more futuristic looks.... KIA/Hyundai wins either way. So the question is... would you rather own a vehicle that wows engineers because of new new new of the manufacturing... something that will only really impact you as a customer in terms of more expensive repairs and replacement parts... or would you rather own a vehicle with more conservative manufacturing and proven reliability? 🤷‍♂️

    • @davidhunternyc1
      @davidhunternyc1 7 місяців тому

      @@patreekotime4578 All well and good but people buy EVs and avoid buying EVs based on reliability, repair bills, and operating costs. What will happen when there is an electronic, computer chip, or battery problem once the warranty ends? Are cars, like computers, now disposable products? If so, these cares will only be bought by the rich and by those conned into buying them. Back to my question... is the Kia EV9 good or not good?

      @Somethingaboutthat 7 місяців тому +3

      There was a lot of Toyota mentions in this video. That's generally seen as a good thing to say about a car for a reliability, easy to repair stand point. Munro is all about cost cutting in manufacturing and it was interesting that they didn't nit pick this so much in that regard.

    KIA EV design is totally stupid. The battery connectors are located in the middle front protected by a small plastic. This is the most probable impact location. They won't repair it.

    Thanks for the review of Kia EV9 with gentle, diplomatic answers. - For me the structure is a horror of complexity, weight and a waste of money. I felt sick. Enough hints as to what will be better, simpler, lighter and cheaper in my Swatch and Toyota IQ style concepts: Useful engineering for a better world.

      KIA EV9 is too SLOW , too HEAVY , too INEFFICIENT , too short RANGE.
      its built too Expensive & Complex.'
      its NOT taking advantage of NEW Manufacturing like Discrete CAST Moules for Axles.
      no CAST cross car beam w/ Multiple functions.
      not using any Gigacastings , Structural 4680 battery pack.

    the KIA EV9 is built too OUTDATED , on a old fashioned Platform that was supposed to be for ICE , Hybrids, BEV & Fool Cells.
    the e-Gimp platform is outdated.
    the KIA EV9 is too SLOW, too HEAVY , too INEFICIENT , too short RANGE , and extremely OUTDATED in 2024.
    KIA EV9 is built far too COMPLEX and built very EXPENSIVE. for what you get.
    to remain Competitive Hyundai GROUP needs a NEW BEV bespoke platform in 2024.
    I would Recommend to Hyundai to start using Discrete CAST modules in their Axles as well as Intergraded cross car beam w/ Multiple functions.
    Hyundai needs to start using Gigacastings and 4680 Structural battery pack.
