Lol jk, just be friendly with everyone and I'm sure they are also 100% nervous like you so you all will get along easily. 😉
Good luck! I'm sure you'll be fine! I just had some problems making the last part of uni. challenging for me, so I'm quite happy I still managed to complete it.
Hopefully this video eases any fears you have about starting college! I've got your back - I thought about fist bumping the camera when I was filming but I figured my camera lens works a tad better when it isn't cracked. Also, to pull back the curtain a bit... this video was originally intended to be a list of 5 tips for starting college off on the right foot. I filmed that outline, buuuuuuuut it ended up being 15 minutes long. And when I started editing it, I felt that this topic needed its own video. However, the other tips are coming in another video very soon :)
Awesome, I actually just decided on changing my current course cuz my teachers suck (I'm not over reacting) they DO NOT prepare their classes and all students did not learn a thing on the first semester, the second semester I started hoping they would improve somehow, but they didn't Would you have any tips for these situations? I mean about unprepared teachers, changing course?
Thanks for this video. I'm curious about your computer setup and desk setup. I hope you will give your setup details. Thank you. Wish you have a great time.
As i go to a UK university im not sure the systems are similar. But i would just recommend that you make sure you have fun. Its your first year go out, meet people. But not to an extent that your grades slip. 2nd and 3rd year are times for seriousness
I feel like an even deeper question is "is college worth it?". There are definitely pros and cons to going to college and I don't think it's for everyone. I ended up going to college and I'm about to start my last semester tomorrow. There are trade schools and you can learn about careers and life without going to college too.
my opinion is that it really all depends on what you want in life. you CAN make good money if youve gone to a trade school. i did. i went to school to be a automotive technician. a good tech made 75k a year,if you know what youre doing. but im 27 now and i have a different perspective on life now then i was at 20. i want to move up and not have to do back breaking hard work in a non AC shop at 40 or 50 years old and a lot of businesses arent going to pay you more without more schooling. also auto techs are commissioned base paid so 75k would probably close to my max potential earning as a automotive tech on a good year even after 20 years of experience . with an associates or a bachelors degree my earning potential will be higher and will increase over the years as i gain experience. thats just what ive seen in my experience .im starting community college and super nervous about it.
This video was super helpful. I'm a transfer student, so it's not my first time going to college, but I'm at a larger university and I still have a lot of questions and nerves. Your video reminded me of the things I felt and learned freshman year and gave me the confidence to explore my new campus. Thank you for the pep-talk, came just in time!

Thank you for this video, Thomas. I am a 24-year-old who is going to university for the first time. I'm nervous a little bit about the age difference (since there's a chance there will be communication problems), but mostly about the program I chose - Integrated Engineering. I’m sooo nervous. Not because of navigating classes or the campus. Not because of meeting new people. But just the fact that I am NOT a party person and would way rather stream or make UA-cam videos inside my dorm room. However my school apparently is one of the biggest party schools in the country and has the highest drug and alcohol levels in the state. I’m crapping bricks over here
I'm nervous because of the ppl. Ppl are normally mean to me in person, I was told I look like an easy target (what does that even mean) any ways I hope it's not stressful
College and University mean pretty much the same thing here in the U.S. - typically (but not always), the bigger a school is, the more likely it'll be called a university. We define the educational stages as high school -> undergraduate (alternatively you can do an associate's degree or go to trade school) -> graduate -> post-graduate.
+Thomas Frank that has always been mind blowing to me, in Holland we have 5 different levels of high school and 6 different levels of post-high-school education and we only call any institution that teaches at level 6 a university
+TRASH. Our system is definitely not easy. I think what we call HBO in the Netherlands is somewhat equal to college in the US. I could be wrong though.
guys, instead of listening to the music you've already listened to 1000 times, this podcast can help you a lot... seriously though, what's with that problem " being 18 and no sleep" ?!!
I move in in 2 days, kind of nervous about meeting new people, but hopefully everything will be smooth. I’ll come back to this comment when I graduate.
I want to be a writer someday but I'm not sure if I should go to college for it or where to go if I decide to and I have learning disabilities so I'm afraid about all the work they'll assign
[Skip down to the flowers if you cant take my poor grammar and dont feel like trying, above the flowers was me explaing my saddest moment in college... there are 4 rows of flowers btw!] This is to those people like me. The ones who know their smart but because of it we do something stupid which is (i know the word youre probably tired of seeing by now) procrastinating. the ones who do it so much that they have to do make up work to get back up. When you hit college, you MUST!!!!!!! get procrastination out of your system especially if youre going into a hard feild with heavy work loads. You know that if there arent really any ways to make up missed assignments but if youre in highschool doing missing assignments in your senior year, when you get into college and finally relax you will do the same thing! how do i know? well Right Now and for the next 3 months if you're still in high school STOP procrastinating, if you slip up once yes you will do it in college. you may say but in college the pressure will make me want to do the work, that pressure will fade after the 1st 2weeks to a month trust me then it will be just like now, you wont stop procrastinating. I say you need to get rid of this because college is almost set up to where you never will know what will happen. last year i decided to procrastanate to the point where the highest grade i could get was a 2.8 Bs and Cs. i never thought of it like this (im about to say it) before but this basically became the new 4.0 lvl of difficulty only if i didnt get a 3.8 to a 4.0 i failed!! but knowing how "Smart" i am im like ehh i can do that. so i waited a until the last minute to do some home work and look how this sht piled up. I had a Engineering project that took a good 56hrs (No exaggeration and yes i took breaks) to do and wound up staying up the last day to 8am to finish it!!! got a 77% because it wasnt complete and we were missing a teammate. next thing i know its the next week and im Like dam..... i got 3days to study for a micro economics exam and calculus exam along with a 5page paper due on the day of the 2nd exam :D. i got a 57 on Econ exam and 75 on the calculus exam that i studied literally only 2hrs before the start of it (i used 2 of the 3 days to chill and studied lightly for the Econ exam then hard last day and got a 57... Econ is easy BUT A lot!!!! to remember!!!... Studied for Calc 1 at 6am for 2hrs cause i went asleep from being exhuasted after the econ exam DX and the calc exam was at 8am). And guess what, i didnt have 1 paper due, turned out i had to do TWO for 1 class. 1 was to revise a old paper which i NEEDED to do and write up our new current paper which was basically 7 pages for the abstract and etc.... i also forgot we had to write a reflection on the new paper we just did all due at the same time 5pm on that same day and i got out of calc at 10:45 am..... 7 hours to do all of this. i now know it takes me 45mins to write 300 words and the papers were 1500 and 1600 word count requirements so ima let you do the math for odds of success for that. i failed the writing class.... Then i had a Japanese final but i Aced that sht i learned my fkin lesson and had a week to prepare. i took 17creds that semester which was 5 classes. TALK ABOUT A NIGHTMARE!!! and u want to know the crazy thing??? i almost did it again the next semester.................................. But what i said in my highschool days was dammm xD yea im not procastinating in college as i missed a paper in a class. i even had the hardest paper ever at the end of highschool that i procrastinated on and i thought i learned my lesson then but nope. Im saying this because as i said before, im smart but procrastinate because of it. i know what im capable of but i decide to push things off because of that or i just dont do assignments cause hey its just a small percentage off my grade 😄 Tbh with you, that small percentage of my grade would have been my way out of that writing class but nope i didnt do that or the 40 other assignments ^_^. If you found this incredibly stupid round of applause, I hope it either made you laugh, frustrated at my stupidity, or Frightened u a bit (sorry to the guy who made this video 😂) cause it will make you remember this forever. Especually if youre like me, and the moment you start fkin up, bam youre saved ^_^. youll think oh hell nah im not like him or whatever and get work done!! If you procrastinate a lot here are some thoughts that might naje you stop. X=work time 15= hrs of the day youre woke aka free time and decreases acordingly until u do your work 15-X= ? ?= Completion of work (any number greater than or equal to 0 is Great!!!! Less than equal bad and if its equal to X or 15 means you failed) X will forever be unknown until work is completed but lets just say X is 6 if you do the work 1st u will get 9! you do it later without going below 0 you get 0 lol so that means your good either way but check this hrs of free time + ? = total free time!! if you do this without entering in the danger zone (?
I'll be attending university next month in the UK to study Software Engineering. I'm 21 years of age so I'm getting back into education now as I have now decided on what it is I wish to study. Hey Thomas, would you mind doing a video about meditation at some point ? I think it would go really well into your channel because it has alot to do with habit building and breaking and people just got the wrong view of meditation as being boring or just done for soul searching.

The only thing I'm scared of by going to college for the first time is taking the bus to college because I've never taken the bus to school my whole life before due to my house being close to my school ( except in college) where I must take the bus. And I also never had a bus card before.
I really miss uni. Finished in march and been working since. I feel really empty now, would like to have things to study still. I've thought about going back and taking agronomy. It's free of tuition here so it wouldn't cost me. I'll just have to skip most clasess for work.

So with THAT being said...... I'm so panicked that ive got IBS over all of last week's bs!! what to do when you get dropped from a course you signed up for weeks ago and the instructor won't listen to your account of a nationwide news cast of "The Blue Cut" Fire! what to do?
Thanks. I always find your videos helpful. I found you a few months ago when searching for study methods after deciding to go back to school. I'm nearly 50, a single mom to five kids (age 8-20) and do not come from an educated family. I barely made it out of high school, honestly. Anyway, I clicked on this video this morning because I'm getting nervous about it now. I left my job so I can go back full time. My kids are in school and when I'm trying to do some studying to prep for my own classes to start, they are always interrupting with their own questions. I'm feeling more than a little underprepared. Do you have any resources you can recommend for older, returning students? I've searched online but found only the most basic stuff...like, don't procrastinate because your kid will probably get sick the night before your paper is due. Anyway, if you have any idea where I can find something more thorough and as encouraging as your stuff, that'd be great. Thanks.

Today is my first day I needed that thanks
tomorrow is gonna be my first day
Love your videos!
I watched this entire video and spaced out the entire time.
Perfect timing! thanks! about to start college
thanks man! This is very helpful, instant like.
Thanks for this!! I feel much better about starting college 👍🏼
if it weren't for this channel i don't know how i would've fixed my grades/school life
Thank you so much Thomas.
College starting in November.... hope i dont feel stressed ...
Astitwa Niraula good luck babe
Thank you Thomas !
I’m crapping bricks over here
Great tips. 🔑🔑🔑
This was helpful. Thanks for the great video! :)
I'm nervous because of the ppl. Ppl are normally mean to me in person, I was told I look like an easy target (what does that even mean) any ways I hope it's not stressful
Yeah me too..so I can understand 😩
@@arpitadutta3471 it sucks!
I might start college in 2 weeks 🙈🙈 I'm so nervous!
Lol, we don't have college in my country. When you finish high school you directly go to university.
I love you. No, seriously you 're the man!
love the videos
you are the best
informative video! thanks.
LOL LOVED the ending!!
I start college next year, and am thinking about going into nursing. I'm so scared, and it's making me depressed because of how anxious I am
guys, instead of listening to the music you've already listened to 1000 times, this podcast can help you a lot...
seriously though, what's with that problem " being 18 and no sleep" ?!!
I move in in 2 days, kind of nervous about meeting new people, but hopefully everything will be smooth. I’ll come back to this comment when I graduate.
You will be okay
Are you feeling better now?
How is it
Hi, Thomas! Lov ur videos, very interesting tips! But can u do a video on how manage people or how to be a leader or how to organize team work.
Thank you!
I’m scared so I’m watching this, first time going college and I’ll be doing it online 😢
I want to be a writer someday but I'm not sure if I should go to college for it or where to go if I decide to and I have learning disabilities so I'm afraid about all the work they'll assign
you're my mind reader ,thank you so much !
Thank you so much.
Can you make a video for student-athletes or international students with some tips or anything you might know that can help ? I'm currently both 😂
lol I appreciate the outro creativity 😂
good job on the list
1 of the best in the world
[Skip down to the flowers if you cant take my poor grammar and dont feel like trying, above the flowers was me explaing my saddest moment in college... there are 4 rows of flowers btw!]
This is to those people like me.
I had a Engineering project that took a good 56hrs (No exaggeration and yes i took breaks) to do and wound up staying up the last day to 8am to finish it!!! got a 77% because it wasnt complete and we were missing a teammate. next thing i know its the next week and im Like dam..... i got 3days to study for a micro economics exam and calculus exam along with a 5page paper due on the day of the 2nd exam :D. i got a 57 on Econ exam and 75 on the calculus exam that i studied literally only 2hrs before the start of it
(i used 2 of the 3 days to chill and studied lightly for the Econ exam then hard last day and got a 57...
X=work time
15= hrs of the day youre woke aka free time and decreases acordingly until u do your work
15-X= ?
?= Completion of work (any number greater than or equal to 0 is Great!!!! Less than equal bad and if its equal to X or 15 means you failed)
X will forever be unknown until work is completed but lets just say X is 6
if you do the work 1st u will get 9! you do it later without going below 0 you get 0 lol so that means your good either way but check this
hrs of free time + ? = total free time!!
if you do this without entering in the danger zone (?
I'll be attending university next month in the UK to study Software Engineering. I'm 21 years of age so I'm getting back into education now as I have now decided on what it is I wish to study. If you could only give a single piece of advice to somebody entering their first year what would it be? Also, I've been subscribed for a while as I feel a lot of the information you provide applies to many things other than education and your content makes me feel a lot more confident going into university, Thank you! Keep up the good work!
Hey Thomas,
would you mind doing a video about meditation at some point ?
I think it would go really well into your channel because it has alot to do with habit building and breaking and people just got the wrong view of meditation as being boring or just done for soul searching.
Love the overboard dorm bed. Basically framed the whole room for one bed it seems =P
Haha yep! I had to get the bed legs out of the middle of the room; it was the only solution I could think of for fitting in a couch.
I’m 24 and barely starting college. Feels like it’s going to be a waste of time but I’m tired of working at warehouses. I want more education
Hey man. I'm 17 about to get out of my junior year and have alot of anxiety and stress out college. I see that you posted this a year ago. Any updates on what is going on about how your doing? Honestly anything will help me now. Thanks and keep up the hard work if your still going ❤
@@zach3302 How about now bro? It is my last years in high school and freaking the F out. I still haven't figured out exactly what to major in or which uni, only thing I know is that I dont want a gap year lol
im scared how hard its going to be that it may be out of my league. Ill be taking a bachelor of science and taking maths and physics... i literally failed both in school idk how i got accepted but here i am panicking 😰
Same idk how I got into uni tbh 😂
The only thing I'm scared of by going to college for the first time is taking the bus to college because I've never taken the bus to school my whole life before due to my house being close to my school ( except in college) where I must take the bus. And I also never had a bus card before.
OMG! This is the second time one of my favorite channels mentions Cal Newport's book!! It must be a sign for me to read once and for all. LOL
Make a video about thesis :) btw great video as usual
I really miss uni. Finished in march and been working since. I feel really empty now, would like to have things to study still. I've thought about going back and taking agronomy. It's free of tuition here so it wouldn't cost me. I'll just have to skip most clasess for work.
your a day late & a dollar short, bro!
we/I needed this 2 weeks ago! I was totally freaked out& was looking for you to settle my nerve's!!& on top of this I drive 2 hrs in LA traffic to get to the classes I need!!!& on top of on top of all THAT.. ...our 1 way u & 1 way down off the high desert of California was on fire for the Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday of the first week of the semester!
So with THAT being said......
I'm so panicked that ive got IBS over all of last week's bs!!
what to do when you get dropped from a course you signed up for weeks ago and the instructor won't listen to your account of a nationwide news cast of "The Blue Cut" Fire! what to do?
It's an iconic, Steve Jobs quote. One of my favourites!
I start in a few hours and this was very informative and beneficial. Thank you. :)
Thanks.
THOMAS, YOU OWE ME A NEW LAPTOP!!! That very last bit made me laugh I ended up accidentally spitting wine all over my laptop haha
Hey Thomas!! Could you do a video about nutrition and how you managed through college without mom's cooking? To be honest that's my biggest fear...
I am going back to college for a SECOND bachelors degree. I'll be getting my BS in Nursing. I am SUPER nervous.
Alquin, a high school learning method, used your video for a english lesson, they downloaded this video and showed it as it was their own, isn't this copyright infringement?
Hey can you make a video on, helping us decide which college to go to? or maybe one on applying? thanks. have one more year until its my turn.
