hey it's the 78 year old grandma, it's because of groups like this and music like this that most of you are alive and breathing on planet earth today, as your parents or grandparents feel in love slow dancing to this kind of music back in the day. We had the best of the best.
Tony Williams is an all time voice. He could be a lead in any era.
You got that right!
Yeslord
Tony and rudy Lewis of the drifters God given vocals .Amen
Tony Williams is the best male vocalist in history
This is another fabulous group from the 50's-60's. This was the time of classy romantic heartfelt songs. Sadly they don't make music like this anymore. They had so many great hits such as "Only You", "Enchanted", "(You've Got) The Magic Touch", "My Prayer", "Twilight Time", "Harbor Lights", "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes", "The Great Pretender" etc.
Let's not forget...."Roll With Me Henry" and "YOU'LL NEVER KNOW"
They’ve reacted to “Only You,” “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes,” and “The Great Pretender” within the last 2-3 weeks, if you want to go back and see those. 💁🏻♀️
@@ithilnin123 Yes I saw that, thanks
also "With This Ring", "Washed Ashore", and "I Love You 1000 Times"
In the fifties to the seventies we had the best music and cars
And schools
@@ArcaneWeasel so true
@@williamjackson4469 wish we could turn back time
@@ArcaneWeasel dont think i would live this long this time
Yes. the height of creativity and expression.
There is no one better than The Platters.
Ccr and the bee jees but that’s it
I am 72 years old and I love this music and your reactions! I don't watch many reaction videos but I came across yours recently and I watch it every day now. Keep doing what you're doing. God bless you for bringing me so much joy.
Me too, makes me remember driving as a 5 year old with my dad who passed to early. Thanks😢😊.with AM radio on.
In 1958 "Twilight Time" went to #1 on the Billboard charts for "The Platters." They were one of the greatest groups to come out of the 50's. There's no school like old school.
💯
💖💖💖💖💖 The Sweet Voices of one of the best groups of the 50's and 60's,
The greatness of the Platters leave me speechless with every song they sing
💯
"My Prayer", "Harbor Lights", "Only You", "(You've Got) The Magic Touch" - all classics by the Platters! You'll be delighted and amazed.
I was 18. Then. And at 81 still love them. Takes me back ty. We lived in a more romantic time music wise. They were a class act
Patricia you need to write a book so the future generations can feel what it was like in those days since you have great taste in music
Australia 💕 Christina
The Platters were the biggest selling black group in the 50s that crossed over to white radio......endless hits......a group that i dont think you have featured yet are The Flamingos they were a close 2nd in popularity behind The Platters.......The Flamingos "I Only Have Eyes For You" is a MUST HEAR AND SEE (performed on American Bandstand)......The Flamingos have some of the most beautiful songs you ever heard
The Platters are timeless, such great songs and delivered so beautifully. Pleaase do my fav. "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes".
My parents were married in 1952 and I was born in 1960. The Platters were the center piece to their record collection and during the house parties we had at our house they all danced to the songs and sounds of the Platters. Great memories from my childhood.
I was born in 1950 and listened to so many of their records from my mother's collection 🎶
I love this music even tho I wasn't born yet
Platters rank among the all time greats . There is so much good music from back then but they are there at the top so talented .
Classic song pure class
Other excellent songs by them: ONLY YOU, THE GREAT PRETENDER, MY PRAYER & THE MAGIC TOUCH 🎶🎼🎵
When songs had melodies, clean lyrics and were sung by people who could sing beautifully.
Pure class.
"Ebb Tide", "My Prayer", "The Magic Touch", "Red Sails In the Sunset", "You'll Never Know", "Harbor Lights"...❤❤❤
Don't forget Sleepy Lagoon 🎶😊
Magnificent my friends, this group was the biggest group from the early fifties to the middle sixties. They were the forerunners to the Motown and Philadelphi groups, the lead singer was Tony Williams. The man was so classy in his singing, he pronounced every word. When he sang it was like a poem accompanied by music, which is what a good song is. This man sang like a classical tenor, I always believed that he came from a classical background. He hardly ever sang falsetto,he used his natural tenor instead.Make sure you listen to Harbour Lights, To Each His Own and Remember When A.S.A.P.
One of my favorites. I remember when it was new and I could sing it word for word with him to this day.
Me too.
Oh my goodness! The voice of the lead singer is beyond exquisite! I absolutely love the true talent of this group. The Platters are the epitome of what true talent is all about.
My heart melted! Love the oldies from the 50’s and 60’s.
The Platters Music Is A Series Of Masterpiece’s! One Of My Favorites Of Theirs Is My Prayer
- Fantastic .. !!!
Don’t miss Smokes gets into your eyes and only you with the Platters ❤️❤️❤️❤️
"Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" is one of the most beautiful songs ever performed.
@Shawn and Mel...Since you and all your viewers love the Platters so much, I think you should now post a prominent photo of them on the wall behind you perhaps to the left of your own neon sign.
That was such a beautiful song. I'm so glad Mel and Shawn reviewed it.
This was my first favorite song. I was eleven when this came out. "I fall in love again as I did then."
I grew up listening to all this music because of my mom, aunt's, and uncles, grandma too! In between the Mexican ballads and Mariachi music, we always had the oldies as part of every gathering. Miss those days.
Thank you so much for granting my wish!✨ Of course, I'll ask again, that you please hit Mary Wells - My Guy and The Temptations - My Girl. You'll love them both and they'll make the perfect holiday twofer. 🎶💘
This is such a classic song!! ✌❤
The Platters the best feel good music ever... there music had a story to tell always...this was so beautiful and it's 6 in the morning here and you got me singing🎼🎼🎼🎼
Love this song, brings back memories when my grandmother played this on vinyl when I was a young kid.
So many talented groups making beautiful songs.....❤❤❤
This group is so smooth!
I appreciate you featuring so many songs from the early 1900s; they’re undervalued nowadays
Tony Williams one of the best singers ever, a class by himself a phenomenon, you will never hear a voice like that today, the ability to start at a low point and then change effortlessly to a high tone without crackling, smooth, silky, amazing.
The 60's had some of the most beautiful love songs of all time that will always be next to impossible to match.
OMG, you cant go wrong with the Platters....LOVE, LOVE, LOVE
man you guy are hitting the great singers and groups!!! glad ur finding them.
The lead singer is the incomparable Tony Williams. He died in 1992, I think.
Yeslord
The Great Pretender, My Prayer, With This Ring, The Magic Touch.
“My Prayer”. Such a fantastic song. The Platters were so great. 💜💜💜
Legends. They were fabulous.
Tony Williams voice was so amazing and so effortlessness. If you haven’t done it yet wait till you hear “My Prayer” His voice OMG!
💯❤️❤️
Fantastic! Those were the days of true talent.
I love The Platters, an amazing group
I was about 7 yrs old when this was out. But who doesn't know this music if you are from that generation! We forget how exquisite voices, harmonies, melodies and the orchestration made music so unique back then.
The Platters are the best . In my book. So smooth and they have a rich sound and blend like none other
What a voice, chills. gooseybumps :))
I'm so glad to see someone reacting to music from the 50's. If I may, I'd like to recommend "My Prayer". It's my favorite Platters' song.
I wish we had more of this type of music right now... Doesn't get better than this...Also Shawn and Mel I love your channel... Thanks for being positive...
this was the courting song of it's era, how could any girl resist a man that either sang or liked this song. Dreamy. May I suggest another great song, "I remember you" by Australian Frank Ifield
Thank goodness I was a teenager in the 1950's and 1960's and this was the music that I heard everyday on the radio.
I was hooked on the platters from the first time I heard them. I was only about 5-6 at the time!!! I begged the babysitter to play their record EVERY time she was there. Young, but I knew what I liked. Mid to late 50’s and early 60’s was what I fell for. As I grew up everything else was good, but just STILL doesn’t compare to that music. BTW I’m now 65, and STILL love that time period. Nothing compares today.
Absolutely timeless ❤️
I have a greatest hits album by them that is wonderful. The Great Pretender is a must listen to by them
Song writers back then we genious. The melody, lyrics, amazing.
Now you have to check out their "Harbour Lights". Y'all really need to get up and do a little slow dancing the next time you react to the Platters!
I was a senior in high school in 1958 when THE PLATTERS came out with this song and it blew us all away. So beautiful and may they all Rest In Peace.
The Platters had many great songs in that era. I can remember just entering my teens and dancing to this song. What a wonderful time to grow up with this great music.
This is my favorite Platters song and one of my favorites of that era. Tony had a truly beautiful voice. I just love it. They were all class, too.
They were great. Thanks for watching this one - my all time favorite song.
With a full orchestra no less!i can see the sky they painted for us. Now this was talent! SMOOOTH!! God bless the 50s.lov ur chann!👍👍😎😎 dan from florida-12/08/21
One of the most beautiful songs ever!
This is another favorite of mine from the platters. Mel’s gonna love this one!!
One of my first 45 records....I was 8. NOBODY WRITES LOVES SONGS LIKE THE 1950's DID!!🎤🎤🎤🎸🎸💋💋💋🎺🔥🔥🔥
Such a beautiful song. I love them
Kathy here - I grew up listening to their music when my parents would have parties back in the day. Daddy would put on their album, slow dance with me standing on top of his feet, and then me and my sister were sent off to bed. What memories their music brings back for me. I am 68 years old and could listen to their music all the time! Thanks for the review.
The Platters!!! How I miss them. I hope you love the lyrics of this song as much as I do.
Jose Feliciano also did a beautiful version of this - a little hidden gem on his album - he was not known for this song. But you'd love it!
The Platters= Pure perfection
So many great hits . My stepdad played their music a lot when I was a teen
One of my favourite songs of all time ,so beautiful
I think the music today simply cannot compare with what was produced in that period. I saw this group, live, many years ago. They were still great!
The platters make the most dreamy music 🥰
BTW, back then a vinyl record was sometime called a "platter" for an obvious reason.
One has to assume that is why they called themselves the "platters".
I grew up listening to the Platters. Twilight Time was one of my Mother’s very favorite songs.
Charm. Charisma. Perfect pitch. Tony Williams was everything.
Love the Platters. Take a listen to the Dells. More beautiful SOUL. Peace out.
It does my heart good to see the younger generations enjoy the music I grew up with
they were and are today .. a class act .. for many a generation 🔥🔥 🎵🎵
The music of the '50s and early '60s was very special. In addition to memorable tunes and lyrics, a song of that era had to be dance-able.
This music, his voice just takes you to a place that feels special and dreamy. I love the Platters.
I'm 67. Y'all take me back more than five decades where I cannot help but smile as I listen.
One of first 45 rpm records, along with Elvis, Chuck Berry and Brenda Lee gifts from my teen aunties. 🙏 Bless them both🙏
As a kid I used to watch my parents dancing closely to this and other great Platter songs. It was a poor man's Saturday night thrill.
Nice reaction, guys! Such an incredible song. I was 11 when this came out and it was all over the radio.
Isn't it beautiful? Takes a person's breath away... I was so lucky to hear this music on the radio when I was a kid, played as "Golden Oldies." The remarkable Platters.
Lead singer of the Platters: Tony Williams from Elizabeth, New Jersey, a town that borders the city of Newark, NJ.
They are so amazing!! Love this song. Another rabbit hole along as this same type group and The Drifters... The Flamingos singing I Only Have Eyes For you.
You Guys were born to late! I was 3 years old when this song came out. I remember it because my family used to play and sing, all kinds of music.
You are on a musical 🎼 journey. Keep going because we like watching your reaction. Hey, don't forget to play Jon Lucian," Your Sensational." It will blow your mind.
Wut??? Classic. Thank you for bringing these forgotten classics to light.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The most beautiful singers who actually introduced me to music when I was 10 (1970) and never looked back
PLEASE PLAY ⭐ ONLY YOU⭐
The platters will always stay in my heart 💖
Australia 💕 Christina
I only have one thing to say about this group, classy. There were none with more class than them.
Heavenly tones of The Platters are falling - on our ears... No one did it better.
This group still gives me goosebumps.
