Music like this IS priceless. You will never hear any music as great as this kind/style/type/genre ever again. Songs, lyrics, melodies like this are from an era gone by. I am just thankful I am from that era........... Thank you for taking the time to listen.
Hay it's the 78 year old grandma, some of you all are here today because your grandparents, or parents fell in love slow dancing to this kind of music back in the day. I was there to experience it all through out the years, and feel so privileged to have been there for it all. There is no music to compare to the greats of the 50's and 60's.
Ugh, I've heard this song my entire life and that high note at the end and the music's crescendo still gives me chills. This is what I call "disgustingly beautiful" because it's so obsene how heavenly this song is.
Pure talent and no electronic components or other means to manipulate and support less talented bands as we witness at present time. The Platters always gave shivers. This I s a true marvel and blueprint of yesterday.
I wasn’t even born when this song came out but through my mother I now know what I missed. Beautiful song, beautiful blend of voices and the superb singing of one of the finest voices known to mankind.
Tony Williams the lead singer here was incredible. He has one of those amazing voices that as soon as you heard one of his vocals you knew it was him! Great reaction..to one of the best vocal groups ever. That's why we older people think that most of the new music sucks!
@@lindanicholson950 All great songs from that era youv'e chosen. But one that seems to have gone under the radar is a personal favorite of mine is When the Swallows Come back to Capistrano. The lead singer had a gentle quality tone to his voice which is easy on the ear which made them so good. They were before my time but as a music historian I'm familiar with all decades. If U are not aware of RUTH ETTING can I suggest U listen to SHINE ON HARVEST MOON 1931, she had a wonderful tone & way with a song. Your reaction to Tony Williams' voice is so much fun to see. It's been my reaction since I heard it over 60 years ago. How much more amazing can a voice get? Someone tell me! And let me add that things like 'autotune' were never even IMAGINED back then. You were a singer or you weren't..
This is real music, real voices, real musicians', so many had orchestras playing behind them, fantastic. So much beauty, a lot of todays music is trash, it does not build your soul, it tears it down. Keep blessing your ears with beautiful music.
This song was released the year I was born, and considered an "oldie" when I was in high school. Can you imagine slow dancing to this at your prom? How incredible! LOVE THE 50'S!
I am so glad you are opening your hearts to this classic music. A few months ago you had no idea what was waiting for you. Seems like you can't stop now.
First of all, the person who wrote this song was an absolute master of his craft! These lyrics are magical. And the Platters' lead singer does the song justice with his equally magical voice and the beautiful voices of the backup singers complete this epic achievement in music!
We have loved The Platters since we first heard their music on the radio. In the last 65 years they have been the gold standard for all vocal groups to emulate.
As a child, my Mother had the Platters albums in the house and playing often. It's amazing how a song can take you back to better times. Thank you for the memories.
All we can hope for, is a new generation will discover real honest singers from the past and start a new wave of singers who refuse auto tune and polish their own real talent.
I met one of the platters at one of my conventions of Jehovah’s witnesses and since I was an old older women at that time I still was thrilled meeting them the husband and wife -I can’t carry a tune but I still would try to sing their music . And I still love it at eighty one years old.
This song is the CREME DE LE CREME of the Platters...tears at the heart...geezus...songs back then weren't afraid to put orchestration behind awesome voices...

My favorite Platters song--and one of my favorite songs from the 1950s--is "My Prayer." (Though the song was written in the 1920s.) It's incredibly beautiful.
I was so, so very fortunate. I discovered the power of music about the time I hit 6th grade. That was the sixties. I grew up down the road from Detroit so Motown songs flooded the airwaves right along with Elvis, the Righteous Brothers, country, rock-a-billy, to rock and roll, and soul music. I learned to love and appreciate it all. Hearing these "oldies" makes my soul smile
We had music of this quality playing on our car radios all the time. On summer nights, we drove around with our car windows open, and you could hear these songs everywhere. It was pure enchantment to be alive.
My late hubby loved this song. He took me to see The Platers twice. Once when we were dating, and for our 35 wedding anniversary. It puts a smile on my heart today when I hear these songs,
I had the absolute pleasure of seeing and meeting The Platters in 1996, the female singer who was the wife of I believe the leader had passed away and his daughter took her mom’s place, her voice was as beautiful as her mom’s.

This is another fabulous group from the 50's-60's. This was the time of classy romantic heartfelt songs. Sadly they don't make music like this anymore. They had so many great hits such as "Only You", "Enchanted", "(You've Got) The Magic Touch", "My Prayer", "Twilight Time", "Harbor Lights", "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes", "The Great Pretender" etc.
This is one of my favorite songs of this time period. It’s so beautifully written.I know it was written in the 20s from what I understand, but there version. WOW. It brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it.
I don’t listen to music any from today . 😢 I listen to a radio channel here in Sweden , that only plays old music . My parents graduated high school in the early 50s and were married in 1956 and this was their music. All of these Platters tunes you're playing, I grew up hearing my parents play. The Platters were one of their absolute favorite groups. Amazing stuff, isn't it?
Grew up listening to these groups on my 9v transistor radio and 40 years ago I traveled across the country and had the best of The Platters on cassette and wore it out. Yes, music back then was really real.
This is called talent. Pure and simple.
Ahhh. The good old days. When singers could sing, love it
One in a billion, they broke the mold, this man had a Angelical and powerful voice.
The one and only Platters! Music from heaven! No one ever like them!

Guido Sarducci, me too, my teenage years, a beautiful era gone by, we were so fortunate to have experienced this genre of music!
They were just outrageously good, Sublime.
As you can probably tell by now, they knew how to sing back then. So many great singers. Just glad I grew up with it.

That harp,...WOW !!! how beautiful is that ??? The Platters...awesome group, beautiful music, incredible~
Unlike today this was when musicians played and singers actually sang no auto tune the platters were fantastic
Tony Williams had an all time voice that can lead in any era, even now.
Next level, cosmic shit.... Surreal.
Yeslord
Play more this is the classic ❤❤❤❤❤
True.
IMHO , of all the groups of this era, The Platters were the cream that rose to the top.
Sounds like an Opera singer! This cat could wipe the floor with 99% of the male vocalists out there.
For me this is one of the most beautiful songs ever recorded.
I don’t know why young people are so shocked when they hear real talent in musicians. Maybe I was just exposed to older music growing up.
Got to be one of the most beautiful 😍 songs ever made!!! Gives me chills every time I hear this song!!!
The Great Tony Williams on lead vocal . ---------From 1959. --------A classic.

What great group, The Platters. From like late 1957 through 1960 they just made hit, after hit, after hit. Absolutely perfect late 50s harmony.
Beautiful reaction.

The Platters were my favorite group from the 1950's. If you care to go back a decade, check out The Ink Spots from the 1940's.
Yes the Inkspots were great, also The Mills Brothers from same era
Yes, agreed, did U know Elvis backing singers The Jordanairs were inspired by them. All the best.
If I Didn't Care (The Ink Spots) is my favorite talking/singing song ...though I have to give credit to Fred Sanford for introducing me to it ;-)
Ink Spots. Whispering Grass. Someone's Rocking My Dream Boat. I Don't Want To Set The World On Fire. we Three.

Amazing classic with Tony Williams on lead vocals
Finally someone is reacting to 1950's music thank you but your just scratching the surface. I know you will enjoy the journey
"When your heart's on fire
you must realize
smoke gets in your eyes..."
Beautiful.
I grew up in the 70’s, but my mother loved the Platters and had one of their albums. I’ve loved them for as long as I can remember.
This 1958 song was amazing then and still is...a truly wonderful piece of music. 👍
I was just one year old.. but I listen to it today with no hesitation... old majestic songs will never go away!!!
The recording is from 1958 but the song is from ... 1933!
Smokey Robinson and the Miracles "Tracks of my Tears" comes to mind.
The Platters go back to my time. We had such wonderful music of many genres. Where did it go?
Music is magic. Magic is special and special is love.. Real feelings, real life talent.
Even if you've heard this before, the emotion you show is real. Thank you.
Their voices are absolutely flawless!!!

Absolutely beautiful, that voice so clear, nothing like it today!
Another artist from back then with an incredibly beautiful voice is Johnny Mathis. "All The Time" and "Twelfth of Never" are two of my favorites.
Funny you say that. I was thinking the singer sounded a lot like Mathis.
The Mills brothers from 40s and 50s too.
I still remember a radio commercial from the 60s, when Mathis put out an album. A teenager said, "Sure I like rock music, but he's Mathis!"
Not forgetting 'That Certain Smile'
Lead singer was Tony Williams. Incredible voice, incredible harmonies/
The Platters as well as so many other phenomenal talented artists of that time period their music is timeless and it gets into your soul.
This song breaks your heart! What magical songs and incredible voices!
