    Today we’ll review the latest creation by Longines, an important and unprecedented collection for the brand. This is the Longines Spirit, a classic pilot-inspired watch, and we take a closer look at the time-and-date model, in both 40mm and 42mm, with black or blue dial. And you’ll see, these are two very different watches.

    The 42mm blue dial is stunning. The cut off 3 is unique, looks cool to me, I kinda like it. Gorgeous looking watch. I am loving it.

      Whats your wrist size?

    I'm buying the black dial 40mm on the steel bracelet next week, can't wait for it! Just absolutely beautiful attention to details, very well made and finally a non-diver with screw-down crown and a decent water resistance, you mostly only get 3 bar in the Master or Heritage collections. I'd like to see more of that with Longines.

      I just ordered a blue one today. I've been wearing a Longines master collection for 5 years. Time to get a new one.

    The Spirit and Spirit chrono are great, both 40mm and 42mm are suitable for a wide range of wrist sizes. Especially the chrono is amazing, I wish it didn't resemble the IWC double chrono so much, although it wears more comfortable. Different price of course and buying an equally precise watch at a lower price is a plus to anyone that wants a pilot chrono. Longines is one of the brands that accomplished a lot past decade. The crown, and I always opt for large sized, to me is just perfect. Thank you for one more well worded and presented review.

    I certainly prefer this to IWC's pilot watch.

    Dial layout of the 40 is so much better. WTH is that 3:00 position doing on the 42. Seemed like longines wasn’t sure to include the date or the 3 so they compromised. Sad.

      Including both would be fine if the 3 wasn’t cut off like that, I prefer larger watches, I’m a big guy with big wrists anything below 40mm looks like a child’s watch on me, I prefer 42 to 40 but that cut off 3 catches the eye too much.

    The designers did not know what to do with the 3 hour marker in the 42mm version. What a design flaw!.

    Im very interested by this new Longines’ watch , very nice looking and features. Between this one and a Breitling Navitimer (or now Aviator) 8 Automatic 41, which one giving the best price-quality ratio? Is the Breitling one really worth the additional €1600 ? Thank you !

    • @johnhill8529

      I’ve had a Navitimer since 2002, it’s cluttered, not vet accurate and the service costs will nearly buy a Spirit. I’ve just ordered a 42mm Spirit with mat black dial. For info, I earn my living as a pilot and think the Longines is probably the better tool for a job, certainly some of my colleagues think so.

    Hi, I am thinking of pulling the trigger on this beautiful piece. However, my dilemma is size with my 19cm wrist . While I like watches to be on the bigger size, is the 42mm simply too big for my wrist size?

    • @Monochrome-watches
      @Monochrome-watches  2 роки тому

      That is a tough one to answer, as it is not just about diameter or wrist-size but also down to the shape of one's wrist, prefered wearing style, and of course things like bracelet versus strap, lug to lug, thickness, weight, shape of the caseback etc. One of our editors has a 19,5cm sized wrist and generally wears watches sized 40mm/41mm or above as they seem like a more natural fit. But in the end, it's all down to testing it out in real life and see what suits best. We can only try and guide you, we can't make the decission for you ;) Hope this helps at least a little.

    Too bad for those long lugs... Never understand why they make a 40mm case with massive lugs... You either build a 40mm watch or not ... End of story.

      That is how longines make small watches look big

    I bought the 40mm black on leather strap a few weeks back. Got it new for an amazing 40% off. It is a fabulous watch in many respects; comfort, style and quality. The only downside for me is the date which is almost impossible to see.

      Where did you buy for 40% off?

    • @borjastick
      @borjastick 3 роки тому +1

      @@justinlee9206 I got it on Chrono24.com It was advertised as used but only two weeks old. When I got it there was no doubt in my mind that it had not been worn because there was no mark on the leather strap where the buckle would have pressed into the leather. The next cheapest one on offer was 1800 euros so I know I was very lucky. It's a great watch, very comfortable

      Just looked on Chrono and new ones are now at about 1600 euros. Good value at that price.

    Do you reckon these watches would be a good all-rounder, robust enough to take a knock?

      I’ve had a Longines master collection chrono for 11 years, it only comes off my wrist when I’m showering or swimming, it’s been camping all over the world, I hike wearing it, play sport wearing it, I’ve worn it whilst fixing my car, apart from servicing and replacing the leather strap it’s never missed a beat and still looks fantastic, if these are built to the same standards they will be more than robust enough.

    Whoever created the case/metal bracelet combination, here shown on the larger blue dial version, must have no sense of proportion or balance...this mass of metal above and below the dial, when paired with the metal bracelet looks just awful.
