- One of the common complaints when working on this particular engine is that the OE clamps are a pain in the butt; but that’s only if you’ve never used them and don’t know how to work them. Once you know, they’re an effective, slim, fast, and low-profile clamp for this application.
Some people use traditional gear clamps instead but the screw part of those can interfere with the throttle linkage and cause limited power and a check engine light, and they can be over tightened causing damage to the rubber boot. Once mastered, the OE clamps they are actually as easy as gear clamps.
The tool I used is for CV boot clamps which are similar, the link is below to the one I used in this video.

These look like the ones on my BMW motorcycle 👌🏻
Awesome! This helps so much. More e46 m3 content pls.
thank you for posting this, though, you showed it with the easiest to get to runner :) cylinder 3/4 man.. fuel rail really gets in the way (pita). Still, thank you for posting the tool, world of difference, really appreciate it :)
I made the video to how the clamps work, getting to #3 & 4 is on you :) Maybe I got lucky but mine weren't too bad, I had them all off in minutes but those two were a little tricky to get the pliers in at the right angle. I'm glad the video was able to help!
3/4 were easy I can’t figure out how to get the pliers to cyl 6 as there isn’t enough clearance on the top
Great video! thanks!
Providing the name of the tool would be a huge addition to the video.
Never mind, i found your notes. Thank you
