DIY Resole Old Slippers Using Glue and Basic Tools
I have a favourite pair of ‘dad’ slippers and the bottoms were all cracked and coming off. I glued the toe and heel a few years ago but they sole continued to break and crack. I ordered some universal rubber replacement soles on Amazon and set to work saving them from the rubbish bin.

Change the wheel and brake on a children’s scooter
Переглядів 1,8 тис.2 роки тому
My kids used this scooter so hard they flat-spotted the rear wheel and snapped the brake off! The original parts were hard to get and expensive to ship so I turned to Amazon and found parts that worked great! The scooter I fix here is a 3 wheeled Globber brand scooter, the front wheels have LEDs in them but I am only replacing the rear wheel which does not light up. I did see front wheels on Am...
Repair a plastic under-body automotive panel without glue
Переглядів 6292 роки тому
Changing my oil this past spring I noticed that over winter, a chunk of road ice must have taken out one of the plastic underbody panels on the family hauler. Being that I’m cheap and I have no emotional attachment to this vehicle, I decided to try to fix it with a soldering iron. I could use plastic weld/glue…but that would cost money. Did I mention that I am cheap? Leave a comment if there is...
Cutting apart an LED bulb to see what’s inside because I was bored!
Переглядів 952 роки тому
There are a lot of different household LED bulbs on the market, some look very unique, while others look very traditional. This one looks like it could be an old-school glass incandescent bulb, but it feels very durable. It happened to fail long before the expected life so I thought I might as well gain something from its early demise and relieve my curiosity. In this quick little video, I see ...
Polish That Cloudy Hamster Ball and Make it Clear
Переглядів 8153 роки тому
Our hamster loves running around in her plastic ball. The problem is that the plastic is very soft and the hard floors and things she bangs into causes it to get very hazy after just a few months. These cost $20-25 Canadian and the idea of buying a new one and throwing the old one away 4 times a year didn’t sit right with me. I decided to see if I could bring some of the clarity back so we didn...
Dirty Old Exhaust Clean and Restore Before Selling
Переглядів 2413 роки тому
This aftermarket exhaust has been on my car since I bought it 11 years ago. I am getting old and I find it a little on the loud side, it’s much better suited to a young person who loves attention. I decided to sell it but before I did, I gave it a thorough clean so that I can get the best money on the used market, and sell it fast. Here are some links to items you may need to do this type of re...
Vintage Ratcheting Carpenter's Brace Complete Restoration with New Handles
Переглядів 23 тис.3 роки тому
I got this old carpenter's brace from a box of junk and it was missing one of the handles, and badly rusted. I didn’t own a brace up until this point so I thought it would be the perfect time to restore it, so I have one in my tool collection. The original top handle was covered in brass and it’s very interesting how it was made, I couldn’t save it, but I like my new handle better  Here are so...
Restoring a yellowed dirty 80's Nintendo NES Advantage arcade style joystick game controller

Best Silver Polish - Polishing grandma's silver with power tools, toothpaste and more

Restoring a Rusty Old Keyhole Saw

I didn’t have a keyhole saw so when I came across this one in a bundle of other saws at a yard sale I couldn’t resist. It had some broken teeth, it was dull and very rusty. Cheap and easy DIY: How to Fix Broken Particle Board Furniture
Переглядів 302 тис.3 роки тому
Particle board is a man-made wood product that is used to make a lot of cabinets and furniture, especially items you buy at big-box stores. The problem is that it splits and breaks easily and once it’s breaking there is no strength left in it. The good thing is that it’s relatively easy to repair. Particle board is made of wood pulp, chips, or sawdust that has been soaked in adhesive then press...
Watch This Before You Replace Your 72 Pin NES Connector

The dreaded blinking red light: The bane of every middle-aged adult who is trying to relive part of their childhood through a 30 year old video game system. Easy DIY How to Properly Clean the Contacts on Old Game Cartridges
Переглядів 5293 роки тому
Sometimes old game cartridges don’t work well! In some cases like with the original NES it might be a problem with the connection inside the game console, but if you’ve already fixed or replaced that and you still have problems with some games, try this! The old Nintendo cartridges needed a special screw driver, the link for the one I purchased is below. Otherwise all you need is some 1500 grit...

    Since it takes all night to set up, I probably would have used epoxy, esp on the cracked areas. This would soak in better.

    Can wood glue + sawdust be replaced with super glue + sawdust?

    • @THEWORKSSHOP
      @THEWORKSSHOP 3 дні тому

      You can try but I suspect it won't work as well. Superglue tends to be a bit more watery and better for creating bonds between solid parts. It's also significantly more expensive than wood glue by volume. If you're repairing a small crack it might work fine, but for larger chips and missing chunks I think you'll be better off with wood glue.

    Great video! For the first repair, are you able to drill into it?

    • @THEWORKSSHOP
      @THEWORKSSHOP 10 днів тому

      Yes, but if you're drilling a pilot hole for a wood screw, as with all particle boards there will be limitations. You'd need to drill a slightly larger hole than if you were just drilling a pilot hole into solid wood because particle board tends to split if there's too much pressure from a screw going in. If it's just a hole for a fastener to pass through the part then you're good to go!

    What a superb restoration! My husband offers a few suggestions, if he may. The middle handle can be cut in half first and glued back with a piece of paper in between. It can then be drilled and turned on a mandrel and afterwards simply split with a sharp chisel (dilute the glue a little) and then re-glued. (Cocktail sticks can be used as locators before final gluing)This will avoid nasty glue lines. (Incidentally, what grit did you use on your polishing mop, please?) Also, please line the jaws on your vice with a piece of lead or copper to avoid marking the work. Finally, my partner says, please, please, please, please treat yourself to a lathe. (The plywood top handle is super!) With best wishes from the UK. Veronique.

    I have a Cinematronics Star Castle cabinet that is all particle board construction. This is how the prior owner “fixed” the missing plastic T-molding on the entire right side edge of cabinet.. Get this, he filled the T-slot 9/16” deep grove with Bondo, then painted the entire edge and Bondo with black paint.. He did a sloppy job of all this, and it caused the particle board to swell making the side panel thicker than it should be along the entire edge. I’m wondering how the hell I am going to fix this most brain dead of arcade cabinet “repairs”.. His cabinet repair is a criminal offense! And it blows my mind that he would do such a stupid thing. The only reason I bought the damn thing is because it had all its matching numbers pc boards and its original final assembly checklist that you never find in these cabinets. It’s like finding a classic car that’s matching numbers with its factory broadcast sheet still with it. All he needed to do, was some minor repairs like you show in the video and get and install new T-molding. Both sides of the cabinet still have original vinyl art intact, on outside, and black vinyl, on the inside, of the board. Every time I look at this cabinet it pisses me off what he did to it and it depresses me at the same time.

    What type of glue did he use? Just wood glue? Can you put a screw in it once it dries?

    • @THEWORKSSHOP
      @THEWORKSSHOP Місяць тому

      I used common wood glue. Yes can you can put a screw through after, but like with all of these types of materials, make sure you drill a adequately sized pilot hole first, or the screw will just split the 'wood'.

    What you took in consideration to decide the shape, weight & size of the umbrella base? To keep the pole in place is safer if you drill thru holes to the pole & the sleeve, install screw and bolt to keep them together.
