    So what is the truth? Is vocal fry bad or not? What about a strained voice? Can you use vocal fry to release tension from a strained voice? In this video, I am going to answer a few questions about the vocal fry technique: what is vocal fry, what causes vocal fry, is vocal fry natural, how to speak with vocal fry, and how to do vocal fry in a healthy way? In this vocal fry tutorial, I will show you a vocal fry exercise (some people may call them creaky door exercises) that you can use as a vocal fry warm up for your strained voice or as vocal exercises to release tension. And if you are a singer, you can use it as a vocal fry singing technique to add a little bit of a “pop” sound in your voice. Enjoy!

    Loving these videos! As a PTA, it’s nice to get the perspective from someone who is clinical and can explain to me the physiology of what’s going on.

    I agree with you that minimal air should be used when activating vocal fry, however as a specialist voice teacher I understand that vocal fry causes the vocal folds to vibrate chaotically. This easily places voice users at risk of vocal fold damage if done repetitively. Given the many components used to create vocal sound, teaching people how to isolate, activate and familiarise themselves with each one silently first then with sound enables a clearer, specific diagnosis. Vocal remedy is not a one size fits all. The origin of vocal tension, fatigue, strain, burnout is dynamic.

    its kinda scary or very shocking if anything, but i just wanted to say that i got it down packed.
    Immediately after i just practiced this technique (ofcourse i have been doing daily massage 3 times a day, and frigatives along with sovt techniques....) but almost right away, i mean, a new range opened up.
    Katarina, in the past 2 weeks of training and with out using this vocal fry as a technique, i have improved and have hit new range......This, by far, is like the SOVT; where it opens up a new airwave or something like abra cadabra.
    I hope you understand i am just excited that i ended up learning this technique safely without destroying my voice.... however, i still need to see a doctor and the time is getting close for this.

    I would describe vocal fry as a Bill Clinton imitation. No kidding. I always start vocal fry with Clinton and slide to Elmer Fudd. " It all depends on what the definition of is....ah, ah, ah, we are hunting wabbits. " Nice additions in this video.

    I find it super easy to do a vocal fry when I first get up in the morning - in fact, sometimes it's all I can do (I'm trying to learn to sing and struggling with tension in the throat, jaw, and tongue). Later in the day, though, it's harder to find it.

    • @healthyvoicetips
      @healthyvoicetips  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Diane, that is very very common. Therefore, many people call vocal fry "the morning voice". It is harder to find it throughout the day especially when you experience tension. Vocal fry is like a barometer of how much tension you hold in your voice. Just keep trying and it will come to you more easily with practice.

    My voice must be really busted, because I used to be able to do this properly and after the damage it's really hard to produce a constant vocal fry without it warping .

    • @healthyvoicetips
      @healthyvoicetips  3 роки тому +1

      If vocal fry is something that releases tension, just do as little as you can. Do you have a plan on how to help your "busted" voice?

    Thank you for the confirmation. I've heard that vocal cords with nodules cannot produce fry, also known as vocal fry. In the evening, vocal fry is harder for me than in the morning. Is there an explanation?

  • @escabrosa1
    @escabrosa1 2 роки тому +2

    Perhaps it's not harmful, but I find it unpleasant to listen to in everyday conversation. It sound lazy and grating to me. Perhaps I'm showing my age. I find it interesting that I don't hear it as often in other languages such as French or Russian.

    • @healthyvoicetips
      @healthyvoicetips  2 роки тому

      You are absolutely right. Many people interpret vocal fry as lazy vocal style. This exercise is specifically for people who want to improve vocal fold closure. I am not suggesting that they speak this way all day long or actually at all. It's just a tool to train their voice.

    Are the diaphragm or other muscles being used the same as singing or more?

    • @healthyvoicetips
      @healthyvoicetips  3 роки тому +2

      Not sure, I understand your question - do we use the breathing muscles differently when speaking compared to singing? If that is the question, the answer is yes. Singing is a more "extreme" activity that requires different breathing patterns and muscle engagement.
