Hi and thank you for stopping by. How is your voice feeling after these 5 vocal warm ups? Let me know!
I couldn’t find the link that you mentioned?
My voice has always been hoarse and scratchy, occasionally stopping altogether. This series of 5 exercise seems to be helping. I will continue to practice them and if you have any additional hints on how to improve my annoying weak voice I would appreciate it.
Thank You Katrina
Also, I cannot sustain the HUMMING NG SOUNDS or MOTOR SOUNDS as long as you are able to. Is there anything you can suggest that will help with that??
Thanks Again
Tom
@@tzimmerman1209 breath control and lung capacity expansion excercises
@@tzimmerman1209 try them lying down! Hands on belly to relax and feel your air intake. Do them on the exhale
All I can say is WOW!! I sang a little harder than usual last night at a gig. Today, my voice was sounding hoarse and we have another gig tonight!! I did the baseline and at the end of these 5 warmups my voice feels 100% better, hoarseness is gone and my throat is much more relaxed!!! Amazing!! Also, I am one of those who hated lip trills, mostly because I could never do them. Well, your explanation of how to get started with lip trills was so good - I did them! Not perfectly but the first time I was able to really do a lip trill the right way!!! Thank you so much Katarina!!!
You just made my day! I am so happy to hear that these exercises are beneficial for your voice! And congratulations on lip trills. I know that many people hate them!
This is literally the most underrated amazing video. I’ve been dealing with a strained voice for about a week now because I strained it at worship practice and then made it worse at an open mic 2 days later before it really got better. I had absolutely no idea there were excercises soecically to help after you’ve strained your voice. I truly believed that there were only excercises to try to help prevent. Thank thank you so much! I might be able to actually lead worship today after doing these.
Thank you for your lovely comment and sharing a little bit about your voice. Many people don't know about their voice and therefore, I started this channel to spread the word. Let me know if you have any questions.
The level of your knowledge of this complex subject and your ability to explain it in detail to the viewer is amazing. In a few short weeks that I have been watching your videos and doing the exercises, my voice has improved a lot in strength and resonance without the straining and fatigue of the vocal cords that I used to have. Thank you very much and I wish you continued success.
Wow! Gus, you made my day. Thank you for your very kind words. I am very happy to hear that you have been able to find solutions for your voice.
Thanks for your inspiration
Thanks for your inspiration Gus

I am very glad to hear that. You can use baseline to assess any exercise whether it's working for your voice or not. Great job!

My sounds are easier to vocalize in these few minutes after a week of my voice back tracking for reasons I couldn't explain. Your exercises in this video are extremely helpful. I've been experiencing voice problems since laryngospasms nearly 3 months ago. But knowing what to do is relieving me of stress and worry about the future path for restoring my voice!
Thank YOU for your kind words
Thanks madm. It really helps me and i will do that

Wow! What a change from the baseline! I had gone from singing for a living to not singing at all for 3 years followed by Covid (wheezing voice, no power or control at all). Thank you! I'm excited to learn more from you!

I am definitely will try this exercise. I've suffered muscle tension for many years to the point that I haven't worked just because If I had to use the phone my throat would close even just knowing that I have to talk. Thank you so much.
I hope the exercises were helpful. Let me know if you have any questions and check out my other videos as my channel is made for people who experience tension when speaking.
Thank you so much for these! I had an operation on my cervical spine a few years ago (they went in ateriorally) and I have since had to be so careful with my voice as it fatigues easily as a result. I found this video a few months ago and regularly do these exercises before shows/rehearsals and it really makes a difference, thank you!!
I am so happy to hear that the exercises are helping!
Thank you Katarina! These have helped me so much! Muscle tension issues keep coming back if I don't stay on top of them. I have to solo cantor Mass tomorrow and my voice has been tired and tight! These exercises help so much! I just need to keep doing them!
Happy to hear that you found something that is helpful. Keep up the good work!
I just want to say, thank you Katarina 🙂 the first exercise really helped me more than I could imagine ❤ it lets me find the most resonant tone of my voice easily which has caused me a lot of distress(and tears) for a long time to the point that I attributed it to luck whenever I feel that resonance. I also found out my neck posture was too forward upon doing the exercise. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Katarina 😊
You made my day! Thank you for posting this comment. This is the reason why I post videos here. I wish you all the best and let me know if you have any questions.
It helped!
So happy to hear!
Thanks so much for helping this old singer recover and get her voice back😃
Thank you for your comment. Happy to hear that it helped.
Love you 💓💓💓💓
You're welcome!
Thank you so much a GOD Blessing you are in helping me. Ameen.
It really works, just this week I lost my voice on day 1 of a 2 day event and I found this accidentally. Decided to try it and did a whole post about it. Thank you!🙏🏾
This was AMAZING!!!!!!!! I love all the exercises and my baseline was dramatically different from when I first began. Happy subscriber 😇👍🏽🦋
I feel a little great.... I will follow your advice. It really helps my vocal cord
Wonderful! I am glad to hear that!

Hi
Thank you soooooo much mam
I am glad to help!
Amazing! Still works in 2024!
Yes, these are timeless!
Wow
Thank you! My voice felt more resonant and buzzing near the lips after these exercises, exactly what I need as my voice has a tendency to fall towards the back of my mouth. It also removed any effort made in the throat.
I am glad you found the video helpful.
I strained my voice by conducting hour-long surveys this week (and I'm not used to talking much at all), so I've been looking for home therapies. I did what you said but not for two minutes each. (Was scared of doing more damage.) I just tried them a little bit. I was also drinking lemon-ginger tea with honey in it while watching your video. I recorded the baseline and then recorded my voice afterwards, and there actually is a difference! Not sure how much is from your advice and how much from the tea, but I will practice your techniques next week--after my voice heals--before I start interviewing again. I'll also continue working on them while my voice rests (so I can get back to work!). THANKS! I'm also looking at some of your other videos. If any of my co-workers have the same problem, I will definitely recommend your videos to them! Thank you!
I am happy to hear that you are finding my videos helpful. Let me know if you have any questions. Make sure that you rest your voice on the days when you have to use your voice a lot. Keep hydrating (tea or water or whatever you like to drink).
It helped
Thank you!
Thank you very much. This was timely. I have to pose my new recording because of the voice problem.. thx from Uganda Kampala.
With pleasure.
@@healthyvoicetips I wish one you visit our training center. We need to learn a lot.
great my voice feels less strained and clearer!
So happy to hear!
Katarina, thank you so much! I wonder if you can talk about how the vocal chords are closely related to the rectus abdominis, and how tightening the “abs” to produce sound causes the vocal chords to tighten? When you say to be careful not to strain the vocal chords during these exercises, you don’t talk about how to relieve pressure, and I’m curious to learn more about how to support sound from below. I found one coach who discussed this, but his channel has been deleted, and I can’t find information on it anywhere else, but it really seems to help me! I would benefit from a deeper understanding on the subject. And maybe others would too! Thank you!! 🙏🙏🙏

Thank you, so helpful. I could never do lip drills until this video! How often should I do these warmups?
I am glad I could help :)
Try to start a routine you are able to maintain. Start introducing the lip trills routine for a couple of minutes each day and before a more demanding voice activity.
Fantastic superb madem
Definitely more resonant
Excellent!!!
Thank you, Katarina! You laid out a fantastic warm-up plan. Cannot wait to try them! #1 - Humming "Fluffy Hum", #2 - Sirens, #3 - Lip Trills, #4 - Motor Sound, #5 - No-Straw Phonation (use hand to create occlusion)
Wonderful! How is it going?
Hi Katarina,
Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us. I was wondering: what do you think about using vocal fry for strenthening, warming up and/or relaxing our voices?
Thank you. What a truly brilliant video. May I download your video so that I may use these exercises each day without being online?
I am not sure how to do that but sure!
@@healthyvoicetips I have the software. It is just that I think downloading without permission is theft. Your videos are great, but I am lazy and I do not wish to find them on UA-cam every day. Please consider opening a Patreon and/or UA-cam channel membership account. Though I am a but a lowly "staving artist," I feel I owe you some money for the best vocal lessons I have ever had.
Enjoy my free UA-cam videos. I have a paid program too.
@@healthyvoicetips Thank you very much.
It was easier, Thanks
I am happy it helped.
Thank you so much I overstressed my voice so much I trained so hard that I can't even reach high notes 🤣
Often, the high notes will go first. I hope you are doing better today.
Lots of help thanks - voice still a problem and want to get a steamer for steaming voice box in the mornings but not sure which is a good one to get? Is it one that u plug in?
There are different options. There are cordless, which are more expensive. Then, there are the ones that you need to plug in. I made a video, in which I review my favourite options.
I find puffing my cheeks out for the humming one helps
Yes, it is a variation of the same exercise.
You will probably never see this but I would suggest once you've made such a video you should follow up with one with only the exercises no minimal explaining. I would follow it regularly.
Thank you for your suggestion. I actually read comments on a regular basis.
Just I saw this video. Thank you Katarina Madam. I started these vocal exercises just now. I am able to speak whispering mostly in the day. How to rectify this problem ? These exercises are useful for me. Kindly reply madam.
Have you seen a voice specialist (ENT or laryngologist)? That would be the first step to take when you are having vocal issues.
@@healthyvoicetips Yes, we have consulted Otolaryngologist and ENT specialist. Also we have consulted Nuro physician. They have advised us to take Speech Therapy, that also we have tried but we are not getting proper guidance. Kindly help me🙏
its so helpful and effective just wanted to ask that can we drink water in btw or not?
Yes, water is fine.
@@healthyvoicetips thanks a lot 🤩🤗
HI :) First of all - thank you for the channel, it is quite wonderful! Informational, correct, practical. I really appreciate it! I am a classical singer with 20 years of professional singing behind me. I am also teaching students at academy level, and I advice them all to follow your channel. I also am struggling with re-occurring MTD, which is hard, but strangely also useful for a teacher - I know some of the pitfalls, although it is hard to re-train myself.
Now - I have a question. I have never EVER thought about this before, but I am simply not able to maintain a "lip-roll". 1 or 2 seconds, maybe, but not more. No way! Can't do it :)
Is that ALWAYS a sign of muscle tension someplace, or are there people who are "problem-free" but who cannot do it? I'd really appreciate some thoughts on that.
No, it's not always a sign of muscle tension. There is a lot of coordination of different muscle groups involved. And some people have to work really REALLY hard to sustain a lip roll. Even people who do not have any vocal issues.
Hi ma'am,, I'm not a singer but I love singing I'm quite passionate about it I have never done vocal training or stuff and I can't cz my parents won't allow me to, do you have some tips for me on how to train my vocal on my own like ppl say I got nice voice but I feel like I need more improvement.
+ I'm a 16 (soon 17) year old girl
Sorry to hear that your parents support your passion. I am not really a singing channel but there are a lot of YT videos on how to start singing. I wish you all the best.
Ma'am my voice continuously cracks when I sing in the morning upto afternoon...
My age is 17
But afternoon it becomes very good without any crack and I can sing smoothly
I am not sure why that is but it tells me that you need a longer warm up. It can be a lot of various things. I am not sure how much training you have in singing. And I am not sure if your voice has changed completely as you are still very young. Have you seen a laryngologist to make sure that everything is ok with your vocal folds?
@@healthyvoicetips ma'am my ent specialist has told me that my voice has not changed yet and there is no problem in my vocal folds....!
But it cracks very much...
Ma'am i used to sing loudly at high pitch from morning to night ......is it because of thet??
How many times a day can I do this warmupwhen trying to get my voice back after dealing with phelgm from pollen allergies..?
As many times as it feels good for you. A few minutes here and a few minutes there. You don't even have to do the whole routine. Just the exercises that make the biggest difference.
Hi catarina,,What is the procedure to treatment vocal module in the earlier stage,,i am a singer but suddenly we know that i have vocal nodule that stay in earlier stage,,please help me.I can't sing as well as I do previously
Eliminate the cause of your vocal nodules. This is easily said but harder to do. However, it is the only way to avoid vocal nodules from growing. There is a reason why the nodules are there - the vocal folds collided with more force than they can endure so re-evaluate the vocal effort and the way how you use your voice. Scheduling voice use and pacing is very important to give your voice a chance to heal plus some gentle vocal exercises.
Ok,thank you so much.I follow your channel regularly,,
How long should we continue these warm ups? Till voice gets normal or any particular period ?
It depends on what you are dealing with. For some people it is advisable to have some kind of warm up for some vocal tasks, for some people there will be no need for exercise after their voice gets better.
Hi these exercises are really good for me
But I feel like sneezing n sometimes I do after these exercises is it normal
Hello Satya, you're welcome. Yes, it's super normal :)
What if my voice keeps break while doing the NG siren? is it ok to continue?
Ihave nodules on vocal cords. What is the best exercise to do ? How can I get rid of it ?
Katrina I would like to know can one have one on one sessions with you for vocal training, I'm from South Africa and would like you to help me with my voice
Hi Darren, thank you for your interest but I do not offer one-on-one services any more. But I run a group coaching program Vocal Freedom System for the Speaking Voice. If you want to go from a strained, tired or painful voice when speaking to a free, reliable and authentic voice with confidence, then schedule a chat with me here: calendly.com/myhealthyvoice/vocalfreedom
Hi Katarina, Thank you so much 🙂
Hi ... Straw phonation shoud done with mounth open or close ?
Mouth closes. Lips around the straw with a good seal.
Still itchy throat and I was sucking on a cough drop through out.
There may be many different reasons for itchiness. It is important to find the reason for your voice problem. Cough drops may not be the right solution. If your voice problem persists for longer than 2 weeks, I suggest that you have your voice evaluated by a laryngologist.
I’m having a problem with pushing excess air when going higher during the sirens and it causes strain. How can I fix this?
Some people use lip trills or straw exercises when doing sirens to limit the amount of air driven through the vocal folds. Also, inhaling less air at the beginning may help.
