I have a 98 gmc k1500 350 5.7 my exhaust is 2.5 in true dual strait piped from the manifolds all the way back 45 out at the bumper with 4x18 in tips no cats no muffler that’s what you need to do.

If the pipe is off the ground and all that it's cool, all the muffler does is keep the car quiet so you can cut it and leave it like that forever it doesn't matter. Now if you cut the pipe like right below the driver you may wanna run a straight pipe farther back so you don't smell exhaust but hey its all your choice

So its safe to cut Back pressure is an issue but again pipe length and diameter solve that. If you have a chevy 350 2-1/2" or 3 inch pipe is the way to go 3 inch is recommended by GM Cutting or hollowing out cats and swapping mufflers can actually help an engine Factory exhaust is typically very restrictive which hinders the engines ability to vent/breath Causing reduction in performance .... like with a 350. If you use correct diameter pipe (3") and a good flowing muffler (cherrybomb extreme) Or flow master super10. The engine can vent faster and breath. Resulting in a slight performance gain A good bit of research on your specific engine will help determine the ideal set up along with what you wanna shoot for personally.

Not much, I cut mine off because 1 of my mufflers fell apart internally, my 92 5.7 still gets around 23mph with no mufflers or cats, newer cars got more aggressive emissions, I can see that happening with them.
