    Back pressure is the atmosphere at sea level pushing down your exhaust system at 1 Bar or 14 PSI. If your engine can't overcome that problem with valving it will stop even though the intake uses the same pressure. Excellent video, the bubble analogy is perfect, I'm gonna use that in my brain from now on thankyou.

    The aluminized steel is already coated before the exhaust tube is made and yes it’s a tube it’s measured from the OD, not the ID like a pipe. And it’s nickel and cadmium with silica, also the stainless is manufactured the same way, it’s coated when the rolled steel is made.

      You can do this with regular house paint too, preferably latex. Don't worry the internal combustion and valve action will atomize the paint. Also there's the added benefit of increased compression from internal paint layers. (Funnel, brake booster, entire f*"kin gallon of house paint.)

    Good video, not building anything crazy just want an exhaust and intake for a 23 ram 1500 Limited. Isn’t it true that it makes no sense unless it has a tune? The manufacturer designed it a certain way, that changing these components could actually decrease performance. There’s more airflow with an intake and exhaust good for the engine without a tune? The airflow sensors are calibrated for certain amount of airflow, might not be worth doing anything.

    • @modernbassheads5051
      @modernbassheads5051 10 місяців тому +2

      If you don’t have a turbocharger in the vehicle don’t worry about shit like tunes 😂 especially on a slow ass ram 1500, get the exhaust and a high flow cold air intake (not K&N they’re trash) and focus on the sound , you ain’t seeing any performance benefits on a naturally aspirated motor. Once you get a diesel or something with a turbo is when tunes start becoming important

    I've got a 08 sierra SLT with the 5.3... I usually have them cut the muffler off and run true duals from the front all the way back just leaving the converters on.. this time the guy had a really nice muffler which has a decent sound to it but not as deep as I'm used to.. it's still a true dual from from the front back but it's now run into a dual in dual out muffler!? Is that still considered true duals ? Is it hurting the flow like that ? Should I take it off and run like I usually do? I've never had a dual in dual out muffler. It has a nice drone to it but not as loud and I like a little pop and crackle with the deep sound of the way I always run it.. should I go back to the way I used to cuz this is hurting my flow or what? Any info from anyone would help.. thanks 🙏

    • @JG-kv4oi
      @JG-kv4oi Рік тому +2

      A dual in / dual out muffler is best for performance as it throws both exhaust banks together and helps to balance mismatch in backpressure from bank to bank as your drivers side exhaust is longer than your passengers side. And it does mellow out the sound which you don't care for. 5.3s are hard to get a lot of sound out of with the 2 cat set up and especially the dreaded 4 cat set up.

      @@JG-kv4oi makes sense now that u explained it to me.. thanks..! I have a 2000 Chevy z71 single cab long bed.. when I bought it , it already had true duals and the pipes were run at an angle out the side with the tips turned sideways making it look like they were cut off with the lines of the truck.. loved the way it sounds.. I haven't drove it in a week or 2 but crank it up and let it run about every couple days.. I can't remember which but when it does start to change tone and crackle just a little before changing gears one side does it before the other side.. if they were run out the back prob couldn't notice but def can with them run out the side.. doesn't bother me but I guess its the diff length of pipe u were talking about. Was hoping to run converters back just like it on the GMC but the GMC has em out the back.. they both have k&n intakes with edge CTS programmers. But now after hearing from u I think I'll just leave the GMC alone if u say it's better , and I can't def tell each pipe are on the same tune when listening to it.. don't hate it but I wished it sounded a little more like the 2000. The 2000 has 0 drone which I like about the GMC lol. So both diff guess I'll leave em be.. thank u again for the quick reply..

    Back pressure is the force the engine has to use to get the exhaust out... in other words, back pressure is the guy out front fighting the wind while scavenging is the guys behind him drafting.

    It’s called scavenging not back pressure! To increase your scavenging you install a smaller diameter pipe to increase velocity but then it’s not as free flowing but if you go to big then the exhaust slows down reducing the scavenging effect so you need to size your exhaust properly for the horsepower you are putting out!

It was $720 back then , when most of the non -stainless 4” systems were less than 1/2 that price, but I feel it was plenty worth it in the long run . The old “ you get what you pay for “ holds true in most cases. Plus it sounds killer . The company was “ Hog Industries” but they went out of business not long after I bought it , probably because of the price . Too bad……😕. Anyway enjoyed this video , thanks.

    Manufactures switched to 400 series stainless steel many years ago, Aluminized steel will also rust just like 400 series stainless steel will rust. Muffler shops use mild steel because most do not own the expensive equipment it takes to bend stainless steel pipes. If you really want the best exhaust Borla is the one you want, they use T304 stainless steel, that is the very best you can use for an exhaust and it is also the most expensive.

    I have to disagree with you about header length. Long tube headers are generally much better for low end power. It has to do with the negative pressure wave traveling backwards up the header tube to the exhaust valve. When this wave arrives as the exhaust valve is opening it helps to pull the exhaust out of the cylinder and in turn pull the fresh intake charge in. The longer the primary tube = the longer for this negative wave to arrive at the exhaust valve and thus lower rpm.

    Why is stainless steel expensive and it's not recycled, recyclers don't give anything for stainless steel

    Ingot an 04 titan with a magnaflow cat back. It's got some miles. No leaks or holes but when cold. It makes a clap sound under load high rpm or when cold even lower rpm. What would cause it I don't believe any leaks or holes.

    304 stainless can become slightly magnetic over time with high temperatures. I know this to be a fact from my experience from testing metals at scrap yards with a PMI (positive metal identfier) gun. I've tested hundreds of pieces of 304 that a magnet would stick to and the majority of this stainless come out of heat exchangers. Even 316 stainless would be magnetic sometimes depending on how hot it got but a magnet would just barely pull on the 316.

    A T304 SS exhaust is extremely expensive, but it’s the last one you’ll buy. Unless you go changing shit that prevents it from routing and hooking up the way it did originally.

    So if I’m looking for better sound, a muffler delete would be a simplistic option with a good return? What are the long term cons for a muffler delete ? I would be doing this on a 22 Silverado 6.2

  • @jshapiro34
    @jshapiro34 2 роки тому +1

    Yeah exhaust is very simple for me because it’s all the same 3 inch pipe with a 3inch in and 3in out cherry bomb extreme from jeggs to a 5 inch black tip and paint the exhaust after it’s bent then a sheet of paper is all you need to paint the welds and if you want less seen just get 3.5 inch pipe axel dump it less seen and less cost
    Diesel sorry y’all are at the mercy or epa and dealer and voiding warranty because I’ve never seen a dealer deny stuff so fast is when a diesel does anything outside of banks exhaust banks cold air and lift
