I just got the Rift S a couple of days ago and the first game/app I installed was VR Chat. I hadn't experienced VR before and was under the misconception that you needed VR to play it so after years of saving up enough for a good PC and headset I was really looking forward to it. I could have just went with the Quest or Quest 2 but those didn't exist when I started saving and by the time they released I had already invested a lot of time and money on my PC. Anyway, one of the first people I met in VR Chat was a furry ERP-er. I didn't really have any opinion of ERP-ers or furries because I didn't know any people who were into it but I try not to judge people for stuff like that and he turned out to be a really cool, welcoming guy. I had a great time hanging out with him and his boyfriend as they showed me around a couple of worlds and taught me how the game worked. They're both now on my friends list. I know there's a stereotype of furries and ERP-ers where people think they're extremely promiscuous and try to force it on other people but from what I've experienced so far, nothing could be further from the truth. I'm neither and it wasn't a problem at all. I think the only time it was a major conversation topic was when they explained about the fictional species' used by furries because I mistook one of them for some kind of pokemon lol.
I love how people say they want phantom touch even though as a person who has it. Being touched randomly in the game really fucks with you and can really freak you out sometimes. Mostly in horror maps

Lot of people faking it on vrchat tho, it's kind of sad. you may have phantom touch if you stay awake for 72 hours but more weird shit will happen when you stay awake for that long. You don't feel phantom touch as much as people think you do, it's just your brain thinking you get touched so it sends signals to those places.

My ears are a sensitive area and when I get phantom touched there, my body just freezes and I start talking funny. People find it cute and I end up getting phantom touched my the entire room.

@@oncetimeuse3083 thanks for the insight! i think phantom touch specifically in VR can be very interesting in regaining sensation post stroke, spinal cord stimulation, and even amputation for phantom pain. I work in the medical field with those type of patients, so the idea of phantom touch is really interesting.
