Love watching these reviews and comparisons, especially when it comes to comparing the highest priced gaming laptops with lesser known competitors. Would be interested in seeing a review and comparison of Aorus 17g xc. I purchased one a year ago and it is amazing, what was most appealing was their boast of being a competitor of Alienware but being less than half the price.
Please don't buy this, I bought one and had multiple issues in the first 3 days of ownership. On arrival the wifi would randomly disconnect (fixed with updated driver), then the laptop started restarting randomly, then the control software stopped working and crashed when opened, then the computer started acting as if keys pressed were being held down.
I actually had the keys pressed down until I contacted it and found out it was due to the way it was shipped to me, it got damage by the delivery guys in such a carefree manner. They got it fixed and so far, after a few days, I had no issue. The only problem I encountered is probably having to update the wi-fi, but other than that, it's surprisingly sharp.
I like Eluktronics. We've got two of them in the family, and though they're aging, they still perform quite nicely. I've had to replace the keyboard in both. Eluktronics didn't gouge us, and they were easy to replace. Upgraded RAM and nVME drive in both recently. Easy. And neither was full of bloatware when we received.
Although they won't see performance boost from applying liquid metal, over time the termal paste will dry out and cause performance drop, whereas liquid metal is considered to not dry out, hence you won't worry about changing it in the long run
@@LinusTechTips Was the power scheme set to "Best performance" during the benchtest? Especially since it looked like the power chord wasn't plugged in on the Knockoff laptop :o

Don't feel bad... Feel smarter with your money. There are sooo many people who can't afford things like gaming laptops but they buy them on credit anyways.
Many of the 3080TIs out there at that price are the lower MSRP models and many people have complained about scalped or resale 3080,3080 TI and 3090s have died on arrival or shortly after. Suspicion is that most of them are pre-used in crypto mining and were taken out of rotation, sold on eBay or Amazon shops to recoup costs at a profitable amount. I'd personally trust Linus over a scalper or 2nd hand reseller. Not Linus fault he is in Canada and you're in US. That being said, it was a great offer for Canadians and included other countries given demand is high, stock is low and the market is greasy with DoA pre-used GPUs.
nice vid. A gaming laptop is not on my top 3 for expensives buys right now, but this made me aware of the brand so when it hits top 3 I'll know where to look.
Enjoyed the simpler presentation more. For me the lack of branding, 16:10 screen, numpad keyboard and specs would make it a very tempting purchase if I needed a new laptop. Not really happy with the look of the keyboard (especially the marked asdw keys) but can easily overlook for functionality. It is a shame about the battery size, although the larger motherboard is probably why we have easy access to both NVMe slots on the bottom.
For Cinebench: set the process priority to Realtime from the tast manager. It'll lock the screen, don't worry after the run it'll go back. This way you'll get more consistent results and even more points.
The SSD looks like the ones HP is using. No controller or DRAM cache. Such a shame, especially on these more expensive laptops. These are a ticking time bomb for when the SSD will brick itself. Usually in the 1.5-2 year range. Kinda sad that LTT didn't notice or chose to ignore it.
They aren't even charging you for that SSD, it's just that they're obligated to provide you with something at all. I mean, I recently bought an HP 16 series and the SSD is one of the cheapest 32/480 Optane units, but it was so cheap I didn't really bother to care. For a couple more bucks I can keep a backup SSD and build a massive laptop.
@@TuxraGamer I've replaced 8 of them already for people in my town, and I just do it on the side. I can't imagine how many their actually are. "Aren't even charging you for it" are you for real???? Yes, they charge you for it. The fact that you would defend a company practice like this is sickening. Most people buying computers are not knowledgeable about the inner workings of the parts. Then get scared they have a dead laptop. 7 of the 8 repairs I did the customer didn't have any backup in place for some of the data they lost. How would you feel loosing precious photos or even worse a university dissertation that you have spent months working on to just be gone. Your response deserves zero points.
@@olandersnake I got my laptop for a really low cost, I'm not defending them, but it's not that bad. It's usable, and it works. @@olandersnake Oh and also, don't put your photos on SSDs, that's the whole morale of the story + always keep extra backups if you really do care. You don't have to be extremely tech savvy in order to understand that keeping backups is a good idea. A de-synced encryption key on *ANY* SSD will make your data disappear like nothing.
@@TuxraGamer unfortunately most big box stores either don't push or don't have the knowledge of having backups. It's definitely something that I encourage. They at least have a controller on them.
I have an Alienware Area 51m R2. And I love it. It's a bad ass laptop. It's super quiet. And If literally anything goes wrong with it I can replace it. I'm happy with my Alienware. I get the price tag is high. But they're worth it.
I can’t imagine paying $1600 for a 3080ti at retail price that’s insane! What the heck is MSI thinking. I recommend you all do similar.
Lol, only buy EVGA if you're ready to RMA the same card 5 times. EVGA has absolutely terrible design, and use the cheapest components possible. No thanks. (Do NOT get MSI either, they try to bury bad reviews from small channels with legal threats.)
@@The_Keeper You do have a point. The ftw3 is the main card that has been having those crazy issues with mosfets and Amazon’s game. At least they aren’t as expensive as MSI. I would much rather had gotten the Aorus Master or Asus Strix but oh well.

I have a Prometheus XVII from Amazon with an Intel i7-10875H and a 3070, and it's by far the best laptop I've ever owned. Build quality much better than my last MSI. One large hinge in the middle took a sec to get used to, but since that's what broke on my MSI after a couple years of heavy use I'm not complaining. Also waaaay lighter than you'd expect.
The VAG program isn't what it used to be since board partners and nVidia (with the 3080 Ti) started participating in the scalping (can't blame them given the mining absurdity). Between the MSRP from nV being $200 too high and MSI asking for another $400 on top of that, they are basically charging what miners are willing to pay for that performance. With the price in the video, I can get a 3080 Ti FE for less on eBay or board partner model from a normal retailer for about the same here in Germany, with much better warranty, not to mention easier support/returns, included. Worse yet, I got a 3090 FE from the official local retailer here at the end of July for less.
Me: "oh! A graphics card at msrp! Maybe I should try getting one!" Me, seconds later: "oh... Yeah, that's as much as I'm budgeting for my entire system..." Good luck to the lucky few!
The Prometheus 16 looks like it has relatively large spacings between the keys. I have a HP laptop with keys further apart from each other and I sometimes press in between the keys, resulting in no keys being pressed. But that can also be because it's been awhile since I used it and I'm kinda terrible at typing, I press 2 keys often when typing on my mechanical keyboard soooo
We live in a time were 90fps at 4k Max settings is "disappointing" Also, they still failed to realize the Alienware also has a mux switch that's disabled in bios by default. That said, its already technically faster than this one, but for the price, this one isn't no slouch

The fact that Linus did not appear just at the beginning is part of the strategy of LTT to mantain credibility knowing that Linus is an investor on laptops market. I like what you do and your compromise with objectivity on your reviews. Nice move.
I got the 18" Alienware laptop back in 2014 or so and it came with a 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD, 8GB RAM and I don't know the other specs as it died just after the year warranty was up assuming it was ever active. I upgraded the RAM in it to 24 GB a few months in because 8 wasn't enough for what I was doing. The entire system ran really hot and I could burn myself on it just by touching it even at idle. That system is what made me switch to not only desktop but AMD because it was an Intel system. My friends bought me an FX desktop they put together and that thing still works and if I didn't take parts out of it for other builds I could still use it. I've abused the AMD systems with a lot of things and they keep going but that one Alienware laptop after one year of just using it as it was intended died of a fried motherboard. I will say they hopefully have their eggs together now but if you don't need to be doing gaming or anything on the go then just get a desktop...it may save you in the long run.

Did you know Alienwares name was chosen because of the founders' fondness for the hit television series The X-Files, which also inspired the science-fiction themed names of product lines such as Area-51, Hangar 18, and Aurora. In 1997, it changed its name to Alienware. :)

Its such a good knockoff, it even matches the price. Looked up where to buy one online hoping for a cheaper alternative. Only place I could find to buy it was just as expensive as an alienware XD

16:10 aspect ratio + 165Hz screen + AMD = perfect
They didn't even put it in the performance mode :D , Legion 7 beats both laptops overall.
@@8Harbinger8 Yes, but Legion 7 is a lot more expensive. Having that total package for this price is preferable to most buyers.
Whoever designed the VAG game clearly didn't get the memo. Linus is short! he's too tall to make these jumps!

Lol, $2200 for the verified gamer 3080 ti after tariffs, taxes, and shipping to the USA. It's cheaper to buy off a scalper on eBay.
If you buy a gaming machine, you're supposed to be using your brain while looking for the right one, since practically everyone will be trying to scam you with shiny lights and RGB everywhere.
For how expensive the laptop in the video is I would expect something at least half decent. I would even be happier if it was one of the cheap Chinese nock offs. They at least have a controller on them.

The Prometheus 16 looks like it has relatively large spacings between the keys. I have a HP laptop with keys further apart from each other and I sometimes press in between the keys, resulting in no keys being pressed. $1900 for a 3080 16GB laptop is actually very good. I was tempted years ago by a 1080 laptop for $1800 and that was a discontinued model at the time. So give it a little time, and if this goes on clearance, this is an amazing laptop for the price.
