One of my favorites. Dive deep into the depths of the human soul.
Basically, the song deals with 3 types of people who hope something bad will happen. There's someone standing on a bridge ... he'll definitely want to jump. The first kind of person is the one who stands there with the smartphone to film the accident. The second type also fires and the third type ensures that he jumps with direct help. And the victim here didn't even want to jump. It just looked like it.
It's like being bullied at school or at work. One is selected and broken. There is no need for a reason.
Suzie isn't wrong either. Rammstein always has several paths in there songs. I don't have a band that leaves more room for interpretation than rammstein. In principle, everyone can feel directly addressed in one way or another.

@Necramonium Smartphones are not the point here. I could have said camera or just gawker. There is nothing wrong with that. The smartphone is only representative to describe this type of person.

7:03 wow, I'm impressed. Travis literally *nailed* the deeper meaning of Rammstein's "Spring". it's indeed about people wanting you to "jump" and "commit suicide", and even "kicking in your back to push you" - not literally. Some people encourage you to try things out, even pretending to help you but then suddenly they turn against you just to see you fail for them to feel better. Congratz, Travis, even a lot of germans are getting the meaning wrong.

@@TheWolfHunterZ not that often,,,,,they create songs so that there are many different interpretations fits...the listeners can see it from more perspectives. and choose the one that fits to themselfs....they make you dive deep into it. clever is also the fact that there are so many meanings. because of that, people can then no longer argue about what it is about. but peacefully exchange information with each other

Rammstein is all about lyrics. That's why they stopped re-releasing their songs in English. They use the German language like fairy tale storytellers did for centuries. A slight exchange of a word or even a single letter can reverse something peaceful into something horrible.
Er ist ohne Weib geblieben, so muss er seinen Nächsten lieben (Hallelujah).

Rosenrot as an album, is probably the "grower, not a shower" album in Rammstein's back catalogue.
It has some criminally overlooked gems like Spring, Wo Bist Du, and Zerstoren.
I actually love the duet on Stirb Nicht Von Mir with Sharleen Spiteri, as well as Te Quero Puta!, but some of the tracks near the end are more filler.
It's a pity they don't play more than one Rosenrot track per tour since it's release, in fact they never played anything from it on the most recent stadium tour.

You just discovered the BEAUTY of Rammstein and Till's lyrical mastery. Rammstein's songs are never just one layer, they usually have more than two or three layers and are open to the listeners interpretation. But Suzie you hit the nail on the head :). The song is more about dealing with the inner conflicting thoughts and feelings one could have and how to overcome them by just taking a "jump" or better leap of faith.

  • @srenjohansen1592

Great reaction. I love this song, its so dark. As both of you mentioned its about wanting to see what happened, when someone gets close to the edge or alowing down when you are passing a traffic accident. But also because of the so called entertainment. It feels like he cant resist people mocking him to jump.

By far, this is the best reaction of a Rammstein from you guys. Analyze them lyrics is the best, Till Lindemann is an amazing poet. He has songs that get to the point (Mein Teil, Wiener Blut...), the fun ones (Rammlied, Benzin...) and the ones that leave you thinking. All of then mixed with sarcasm, dark humor, many meanings, twist and turns, contemporary literature and old poetry.

I thought about this song a lot while mass media made me watch the downfall of Amy Winehouse, and I thought about it recently when I watched the documentary about Britney Spear's career. It's the best metaphor for this type of sensationalism. A very striking example might also be the unfortunate death of Princess Diana and Dodi Al-Fayed. The toxicity of sensationalism isn't new, but I think Rammstein made a very obvious and terrifying song about this topic. There is not too much room to interpret it, though, because it seems to be straightforward.
Anyways, good job, guys and thanks for reminding me of this classic.

Don't forget that the actual writer of the lyrics ( in this case Till who is also a poet and his dad was one too- don't know if you knew that) and the main character of the lyrics are different. Till often tells full stories in his songs with main characters and in this song the perspective between them even shifts. I love that so much about their songs. It is never Till who sees himself in the lyrics. He just describes things that happen in the world that he wants to talk about, often times bad things.

The song it´s open for interpretation but the big picture is what both of you talked about: people who just want to see failure and sometimes you look at someone and think you know what they feel or need and you just don´t. And as in a lot of Rammstein and Till´s own work he assumes the voice of the "evil", the criminal, the bad person, etc. Just remember "Mein Teil, he speaks in the first person as if he was the cannibalistic individual. I wish my english was better but I think you got the idea. Good reaction and analysis.

Welcome to understanding a glimpse of the abyssal rhetoric and analogy of (mostly) Till's writing capabilities and dark spaced mindset. Not even all us Germans understand the deeper meanings of Rammstein's words - the one that do are able to compensate that very distinctive ancient German mood of (how I call it) "melancholy of destruction". It's a depth that pulls you in and you enjoy it as much as the moment you get pulled back out of it :) \m/

Most songs of Rammstein have more than two meanings. I read an article where Till said this song is about the media and news (the humans) and that they want something of Rammstein but the band dont want do that what the media want of them. But you can find more another meanings, nobody knows exactly what is the right meaning of this song. 🤷🏼‍♂️ You have to react to „Stirb nicht vor mir“, its really emotional ballade of Rammstein. ☺️

The ronsenrot album is a dramatic album from Benzin to the last total drama song, the only song that does not fit is Te Quiero puta that sounds quite different from the concept of songs that fit with each other but somehow Rammstein wanted to translate the song into the disc referring to world dramas in each of the pieces.

In my interpretation the joker guy who is leading the crowds downstairs, telling him to jump is the demon of the suicidal person standing on the bridge ... the crowd does stand there yes but he wasn't actually kicked in the back ... he jumped because his demon was too real for him

It might mean something different to everybody. To me it envisions the worst in people, like people filming a terrible accident or someone drowning instead of helping him. That is something our society is en route to at a staggering speed. Too much people are seeking their own satisfaction and don’t care what price other people might have to pay for that.

Just a thought. But people love to see till torture flake, it just reminds me of that. The satisfaction that the audience gets from it. “Don’t disappoint me jump for me” the audience expects it and loves it. I watched this video a long time ago. But I can’t find the fan made video anymore does anyone have the link?

It's a great song isn't it? I reckon Rammstein should find the video creator, give him some cash and make it an official video - it really is so well done. I'm glad you enjoyed it, I pretty much agree with your interpretation of what it is about. The human race can be remarkably inhumane at times.

@@TheWolfHunterZ I know they'll never do it live, but wouldn't it just be a great new way to kill Flake? LOL.

An underrated gem of this album. Great choice. (Sometimes even patreons can do better rather than the 95% of their requests that are pure humanshit)

Hey. How cool you reacted to this VERY OLD fanmade video. You are approaching the weird/underrates side of Rammstein with this.
Going along with the rare I'd suggest you to check sometime *Helden* (Apocalyptica feat Till cover over a David Bowie's song), or *Schtiel* (Russian: штиль. Also a cover sang in russian of the band Arya).

      And you know what?
If you ever hear my prayer and react to *Rammstein - Schtiel* (cover) please right afterward react to *ария - штиль* (original) and discuss which version was better. I read and love seeing people's opinions on that 😄
