Rammstein - Dalai Lama
Hey. Been a while! Got another Rammstein song for Suzi and Travis. It is called Dalai Lama, it is called that as the current Dalai Lama has a fear of flying and the songs story takes place on a plane. It is inspired by an old dark German poem called der Erlkönig, which means The Elf King. The video is a custom video with onscreen English translation for you made by UA-camr EducatedMarine , so I'm sure he would appreciate a mention Enjoy
It's the story from "Erlkönig" in a modern cloth (Goethe).
When I was a child I went to a music school and learned to play the piano. There was a lesson in solfeggio, we studied the works of composers. I remember listening poem - «Erlkönig». It was originally written by Goethe as part of a 1782 Singspiel, Die Fischerin. I listening vocal version written by Schubert in 1815. I remember how I was horrified by the plot. The father takes the sick boy through the forest, and the boy hears the voice of the a king of the fairies who calls him and at the end the boy dies, he is taken away by the king of the fairies. I remember this primal fear that I experienced, in the face of unknown supernatural being. A powerful deity who has power over people's lives. It was also the fear of death. The fear is as great as the fear of Cthulhu. I was a little girl so I was shocked. When many years later I listened Dalai Lama, I suddenly remembered the "Erlkönig". Because the plot looked familiar, like an interpretation. And I was very surprised when I found out that Rammstein song was based on the plot of "Erlkönig".
The song is about the father choking his son to death due to the fear of crashing...go back...its not about the crash...the plane lands but the son is dead from his dad choking him out due to the fear
The father now gallops, with terror half wild,
He grasps in his arms the poor shuddering child;
He reaches his courtyard with toil and with dread, -
The child in his arms finds he motionless, dead.

This song is amazing. Till's voice delivers the story so perfectly and becomes absolutely scary when he speaks for the ghosts... I've never been afraid of flying, yet Till sings even innocent "They sit secure and warm" in such a way that if I would be about to take a flight - I might panic 😳
The choirs are so beautiful, yet haunting and creepy. Soooo perfect!
And the ending so devastating, coming without any warning! Goethe would be proud of Till!

As a German speaking American and some one whose scared of flying , and as a loyal Rammstein fan , this song always scares me. I always believed that humans should not be flying . We should always stay on the ground.

@@TheWolfHunterZ I'm from Poland, going to see them destroy Warsaw PGE Stadium 😆Even though tickets were sold out two years ago, recently they started putting some tiny amounts of tickets randomly and I got lucky!
I've seen them live in Stadium Tour 2019 and it was such a great experience, since then I knew that I have to see all their concerts!
